Chapter 2
karlie took the chance to wander around the house now that taylor was no longer downstairs.
she walked around observing every little detail of this weird looking house. as she did that, she was also replaying the conversation she just had with the other girl. Taylor. how did she live all these years in here?
karlie lived her whole life in this small town and spent most of her time in these woods. so, how come she’s never seen this girl?
she decided to finally go upstairs to explore a little more and maybe even check on Taylor.
she slowly walked up the stairs and then into the first room she was met with on top of the stairs. she found herself in a bedroom with two small metal beds and a window between them. the walls were a dark baige color. it looked so empty and depressing. Taylor was sitting on the bed on the right side of the room, with only boring white sheets under her. she was also hugging a dog.. a dog?..
“heyy, buddy” karlie rushed to pet the dog. she has always loved them more than anything. and that golden retriever was irresistible. but she was caught off guard when taylor hugged him tighter pulling him away.
However, karlie’s smile never dropped. her hand moved slowly closer to the dog’s head to gently scratch it. she was watching Taylor very carefully, too afraid of startling her more than she already has.
“its okay. im not gonna hurt either of you, okay? i just think he’s really cute” karlie speaks again, with the same sweet smile on her face. especially when she notices how Taylor physically start to relax.
What karlie didnt expect was when Taylor points at the plastic bag poking out of her little bag.
“wha..” karlie looks at her bag confused, but quickly smiles when she notices the bag of cookies she had in there. “oh! you saw the cookies!!”
“coo..kies?” Taylor tilts her head like a curious cat. karlie finds it adorable.
“yes, cookies! i actually made them myself! have you not had them before?” karlie frowns when Taylor shakes her head. She takes the little bag of cookies out of her purse and digs a couple out of the bag and sticks one out for Taylor to take. “here. try one! you’ll love them!! they’re only the best thing humans have ever created!!”
when Taylor takes a bite, Karlie watches as her eyes widen in pleasure. she clearly loved them. she stuffes the whole small piece of cookie in her mouth, making her cheeks look so cute. “i love cookies.” she says with a smile and a full mouth, still chewing.
and Karlie couldn’t be more proud. she loved baking. and for a person to enjoy something she made that much, makes her giddy and just so happy. she smiles as she excitedly brushes her fingers lovingly over the dog’s back. admiring his golden fur that looks fairytale-like infront of the window.
“conner” Taylor whisperes. her voice barely audible the green eyed girl wouldnt have heard it if she wasn’t standing so close.
“conner? is that his name?” Karlie’s smile widens. firstly, cause she finds that sooo cute. but also, cause Taylor is actually talking to her.
Taylor nods ever so slightly.
“he is the cutest dog ever!! Taylor you are one lucky girl oh my god. look at his smile!” Karlie squeals as she scratches between conner’s ears and he leans towards her hands excitedly.
karlie swears she could see a faint smile on taylor’s lips.
though, when karlie gets up, taylor’s body tenses and she flinches when karlie lifts her arm up to brush her own hair out of her face. it was strange. karlie had no idea what was going on with this random angelic looking girl’s life. she lives alone in an old building in the middle of the woods. a building that looks like it has been abandoned since the 1950s. and the more she asks, the more confused she gets. Taylor mentioned a mom, a dead mom? which only makes karlie frown at the thought. how has this girl been living all this time? how long has it been anyway? everything about her is so vague and it only drives karlie more insane. she wants to know everything. why was she so scared about anyone finding ‘them’ and why didn’t she know what a tv was? or a cookie? could she actually be an angel? she was beautiful enough to be an angel, after all. it wouldn’t so surprising.
karlie looks out the only window in the room on her left then glances back at Taylor. her frown quickly replaced by yet another smile. “it looks like its getting dark, i should probably go. dont wanna be grounded again” karlie rolls her eyes and chuckles.
“grounded?” Taylor looks up at her from the bed, confused. the last rays of sunshine from the window making her eyes look out of this world.
“yeah, like they dont let me leave the house for a long time! can you believe that!” karlie complaints, wishing she could stay here for a little longer.
“like mom?” taylor asks.
“what?” karlie looks at her with her brows furrowed. her mom didnt let her leave the house? “were you not allowed to leave the house?”
Taylor shakes her head. “dangerous” she says looking away.
“oh..” karlie looks down at her shoes uncomfortably. “well, um.. im not dangerous, okay?” she sits on the bed, but, not without making sure to do it very slowly, not to scare the shorter girl. “do you have enough food here?”
Taylor nods.
“alright then, how about this? i will leave now so i dont get murdered by my mom. and ill come back tomorrow! with food! and..hmm..” she tries remembering what else the girl might need.
“cookies” taylor says. karlie wouldve missed it of she wasn’t so close from the blonde.
“cookies?” karlie chuckles. “alright, cookies it is. i’ll make more tonight just for you.” she shakes her head laughing lightly. “see you tomorrow, or whenever i can runaway from the house” she smiles waving as she leave the room.
Taylor only stares. hugging conner closer. maybe she shouldn’t do it tonight. one more day alive wouldnt make a difference, right?
