“It’s over!” They said in unison.

With strikes from the right and left, the engine fueling the destruction of their city was destroyed, an explosion erupting in its place.

The two girls landed from their aerial strike, the taller one sheathing their katana and the smaller one dropping it on the ground, the clatter of the impact ringing throughout the large mechanical room.

“We… did it…”

“Yeah…”

Time appeared to stand still, the taller girl kneeling from her landing, and the smaller one supporting herself with her arms as to not collapse onto the ground. Their breaths were heavy from exhaustion, and their limbs felt like they were burning.

And yet, even if it wasn’t evident on their face, they were happy. They had saved their home.

“So…”

The taller girl eventually stood up straight, and went over to the smaller girl, reaching a hand out to her.

“What now, Su?”

The smaller girl chuckled, before accepting the hand and pulling herself up.

“We go home, Chihaya.”

They both smiled at the prospect.

Until a ringing in the facility echoed off the walls and all around them. Chihaya, the talker girl, unsheathed her katana in an instant. Su, the smaller girl, was left to simply take a combat ready stance, due to having discarded her own weapon a moment ago.

They looked to the machine they had just destroyed. It was nothing but a pile of metal and rubble, yet it was flashing a red light that permeated through its body.

“What the hell…” Chihaya said, confused.

The machine began to glow a bright white light.

“…RUN!” Su screamed.

It was too late.

Even by just looking at it for a second, both girls felt their strength being sapped from their body. Su was the first to collapse despite her brief attempt to flee, with Chihaya following not soon after, but trying to prop herself up with her katana.

“Su!” Chihaya tried calling out.

Said girl was left on the ground, motionless.

Calling upon the last reserves of her strength, Chihaya managed to walk over to Su as the light from the machine grew ever brighter.

She managed to lift the small girl into her arms.

“Su…?”

She was unresponsive.

“…damnit!”

Chihaya’s screams were heard by no one but herself.

She tightened her hold on the limp girl in her arms.

“Su…”

The light engulfed the room.
