Chapter 3

A psych ward.

A goddamn psych ward.

Obito didn’t need a fucking psych ward. He wasn’t crazy.

He just…got mad. And frankly, the people he hurt deserved it.

Those leaf ninja…acting like Kakashi should’ve made sure he died, acting like that was an option.

And then there was the mist ninja, of course Obito had to take them down. They were the enemy.

Rin’s face full of nothing but terror stared back at him. “Please don’t hurt me…don’t hurt us…”

He wouldn’t. He would never hurt them.

But what if I had?

Obito’s thoughts were cut off by a woman entering. Obito didn’t know her, but he’d bet anything she was part of the Yamanaka clan, most of them were therapists after all.

“Hello, Obito.” She greeted soothingly. “My name is Shiro Yamanaka-“

“Is Kakashi okay?” Obito cut her off abruptly.

Shiro bit her lip. “I’m afraid I’m not allowed to discuss the condition of your teammates with you.”

What?

Obito felt a fresh swell of rage. “What? Why not?”

“It’s simply protocol. Why don’t you sit down and we can talk?”

A shadow covered Obito’s eyes. “I don’t want to talk about that crap…” His hands balled into fists.

His sharingan blazed dangerously. “I WANT TO SEE KAKASHI-“

Shiro weaved some hand signs, casted some kind of jutsu on him.

But Obito was knocked out before he could even comprehend what it was.

“-dangerously unstable. A threat to himself and others.” Shiro explained to Minato grimly.

Minato clutched his hands together tightly. “He should know Kakashi and Rin are okay-“

“Obito needs to be able to react and function calmly, regardless of any news he is given and regardless of his teammates. That is my priority right now.” Shiro told him calmly. “He killed people, Lord Hokage. He killed leaf shinobi.”

“That’s…” Minato hesitated. Really hard to argue with.

“We’re holding him for one month, in which time he’ll undergo therapy. If he responds well, we won’t have to discuss harsher treatment.” She said.

Minato’s eyes widened. “Harsher…treatment?”

Shiro frowned deeply. “It would involve going into his mind, and essentially rewiring it. No matter what, he wouldn’t be the same person he was before.”

The idea made Minato sick.

“But we’re going to do whatever we can to ensure he doesn’t reach that point.” Shiro promised simply.

But Minato was no longer listening. All he could think about was his team.

His precious team.

His team that he failed.

Rin’s hands wouldn’t come clean.

No matter how hard she scrubbed, the blood was still there.

She could still see Kakashi’s empty gaze as his life literally slipped away.

Tears flooded Rin’s eyes as she scrubbed harder.

But then a firm hand grabbed her arm.

Rin slowly turned her head, trembling.

Tsunade stared down at her sternly, before he gaze turned to Rin’s hands.

They’d been scrubbed raw, the skin cracked open.

Tsunade gently took Rin’s hands in her own and began to use her medical ninjutsu.

Rin said nothing, and just watched as the injuries on her hands sealed up.

“Your teammate is strong, Rin. Both of them are.” She promised.

Rin sniffed. “…Kakashi…he…he tried to- and Obito is…” She shuttered. “What’s going to happen to us now?”

“Obito will likely be placed in a psych ward, where they’ll try to help him.” Tsunade assured. “And Kakashi is going to be fine. He’s with Kushina and Jiraiya now.”

“I should be there. I-I can help, I can support him-“ Rin started desperately.

Tsunade shook her head firmly. “I’m afraid…you’re needed elsewhere, Rin.”

Rin felt a chill go down her spine, and slowly turned her head.

Stood there was two ANBU, along with Danzo.

“Good afternoon, Miss Rin.” Danzo greeted her calmly. “You’re going to need to come with us.”

Rin paled. Something about Danzo’s aura was…terrifying.

“The Hokage and Uchiha police force will need your statement.” He added.

Rin swallowed hard, taking a step back. She suddenly felt the urge to run. “What…What for, exactly?”

“It’s regarding Kakashi Hatake’s sharingan. A decision has to be made on what to do with it.” He told her simply. “Please come with me.”

“I…” Rin looked at Tsunade for help, but Tsunade merely looked away.

The ANBU grew closer.

“Miss Rin, I’m not asking.” Danzo stated simply.

Rin trembled under the ANBU’s deadly gaze.

“This should do it.” Jiraiya noted, looking at the bindings holding Kakashi down onto the floor by his wrists and ankles. His shirt and mask were off.

Kushina let out a shaky breath. “Kakashi, this seal is strong. The three tails won’t be able to escape, not unless you’re put under a stress equal to that of something like childbirth, and even then it will only be at its weakest. But this seal…it’s…not easy.”

Kakashi let out a shaky breath, looking up at the ceiling. “Do what you must.”

Jiraiya and Kushina exchanged a little, and a brief nod, before getting into position and activating the seal.

The room was sound proof as much as possible, but Jiraiya couldn’t help wondering if the entire village heard Kakashi’s screams of pain anyways.

‘I’ll make it up to you someday, kiddo.’
