“Kakashi!” The white haired teenager closed his book, looking down from his perch on the tree. Looking up at him was his black haired Uchiha teammate, Obito. Oh, and i can suppose you can call him Kakashi’s best friend, too. With him, was his other best friend, Rin Nohara.

“Maa, Obito. How do you always find me?” The boy complained, jumping down from his spot and landing next to the pair. They start the long treck across the leaf village to their sensei (or rather, the 4th hokages) house. It was a weekly tradition that they attend dinner. At first, it was just the squad with their teachers girlfriend, Kushina. But now, she had been upgraded to their teachers wife, and they had little Naruto with them.

The trio made little chatter while walking, passing a few of their classmates on the way. He distinctly remembers the feeling of warmth following him, as he looked upon his own teammates.

“Oi! Bakashi, are you even listening?” Obito says, swatting him round the head. Kakashi grabs the back of his head, glaring at the other. “Of course i was, dumbass!” He says, defensively, and looking over to Rin for support. The girl just shrugs, and smiles at him kindly. “Oh yeah? What was i talking about then? Huh!” Obito shouts, pouting at him. Kakashi shrugs, putting his hands into his pockets and continuing to walk calmly.

“Obito, you know i always listen to you. I just don’t take it in, ever.” He snickers at his friends face, before speeding up. He hears a scream of “JERK!” behind him, but ignores it. Minato and Kushina’s house comes into view, and he feels a warm smile crawl over his face. This place had been his second home throughout his childhood. Coming back always felt like coming home after being away for a while. And in some senses, that was what it was like.

He walked up the steps slowly, waiting for his friends to catch up to him. Once the other two arrived, he turned and ruffled Obito’s hair before letting him in with his spare key. All of them had one, but Kakashi was normally the only one who carried his on him (After the time Kushina had bombarded him in the village market, dropping Naruto into his arms and running off saying to take him home since she had errands. He’d never left his keys at home after that incident.)

“Kakashi nii-san!” A bundle of bright yellow hair crashes into him, a bear hug engulfing him. He laughs, and ruffles Naruto’s hair. Obito makes a noise of protest behind him, as the small boy steps away to engage in a hug with his friends. Kakashi drops his keys into the bowl next to the door, making sure to shake his shoes off with half effort. “Naruto, did you grow taller?” Rin asks, kneeling down to the boys height. He starts going on a ramble to her, wrapping his whole hand around her pinkie finger as he drags her into the house. Both Kakashi and Obito watch them fondly, still standing by the door.

“Are you kids finally here? I’ve been waiting ages you know!” A loud female voice shouts from the kitchen, as the two teen boys share understanding looks. They follow the sound of the voice to be met with Kushina at the stove, and Minato sitting at the table cleaning away whatever activity Naruto had been doing before the trio had arrived. They both smiled wildly at the boys, and Kushina even pulled them into a big hug. “Gosh, it’s been ages since i’ve seen you both!” She says, squishing their cheeks. Obito blushes, and laughs while Kakashi swats her hands away, giving a fake glare to her.

“Well, dinner should be ready soon. Why don’t you help Minato set the table huh?” She says, giving them a firm look. They knew it wasn’t a question, but an order. She then smiles, and turns back to the food.

A couple minutes later, Rin and Naruto come back and he’s still talking her ear off. He’s somehow convinced her to let him do her hair, and the uneven plaits sit nicely against her back. Everyone complimented Naruto’s skills, to which the boy loudly announced that if he didn’t become hokage, he’d become a hairdressing ninja. They all laughed at him, as they settled down at the table and began talking. Once Kushina settled with them, and the food, they all began to eat in comfortable silence.

Kakashi looked around, catching Obito flick Naruto on the forehead and giggled to himself. Yeah, he thought, this is what having a true family feels like.
