Arrival
Sunny stepped off of the large tour bus into the dim light of the setting sun, scanning the crowd of siblings of sin and members of the church that had gathered, eager to ask Papa and the ghouls questions about their tour. She scanned the ocean of people, looking for her best friend, Mist. Was Mist even there? did she even come? Sunny thought. But, when she saw Mist off the the side her heart jumped. Sunny squirmed through the crowd, trying to reach her, uttering sorry's and excuse me's as she weaved masterfully through the siblings. Then she reached her.
"Hi." Sunny grinned under her helmet, only a mouthful of sharp teeth visible.
"Hi yourself, idiot." Mist's facial expressions were impossible to read from under her mask, but Sunny could see the smile through her eyes. Sunny leaned down and hugged Mist tight. Satanas, how she missed her. She missed her calming presence, her smile, her eyes, her laugh, everything. Sunny breathed in the smell of Mist, that familiar smell of fresh rain, except, not as faint as it is in the air. They held this tight hug for a few minutes, hugging each other like the other could slip away at any moment.
"Can we go inside?" Sunny whispered.
"Of course." Mist replies, letting go of her. "Want some help with the bags? Keeping the paparazzi away?"
Sunny nodded. Right now, all she wanted was to be in her own (or Mist's) bed. She grabbed one of the bags and followed Mist. She lashed her tail back and forth as she walked, glaring and/or growling at any siblings that got too close to them. Finally, they got to the basement, where the ghouls all resided. Most of them had already hidden away in their rooms, unpacking or sleeping.
"Feels so good to be home." Sunny stops to take off her leather helmet, a head of wavy, red, jaw length hair unfurled from it.
"I bet." Mist said, taking off her own mask, revealing that smile that brightened Sunny's day every time she saw it. Sunny took a little too long to take in Mist's features, her light blue-grey skin, the freckles that decorated the bridge of her nose, the small black horns that grew from her forehead, her short, black hair, her deep blue eyes, surrounded by black. Just looking at her, Sunny could feel herself blushing, her greyish-red skin getting blacker around her ears. Mist looked up at Sunny, making eye contact before they both swiftly looked away. They stood in silence for a few seconds before Mist cleared her throat.
"So, I take it you want me to bring these to your room?" Mist asks.
"Oh, yes." Mist's voice brought Sunny back to reality. They walked back to Sunny's quiet sanctuary, her bedroom.
Sunny flopped down onto her bed, face buried in her soft blankets. She tilted her head up to see Mist smiling at her.
"Want me to leave you to it?" Mist had walked to the door, ready to leave if Sunny wanted to be left alone.
"Uh..." Sunny thought for a second. "No, actually. I wanna be around you, I missed you."
"Okay!" Mist chirped excitedly, walking to join Sunny on her bed. Once Mist had sat down, her back up against the headboard, Sunny flipped over.
"I missed you too. Well, Cirrus and Cumulus too, but mostly you." Mist said, looking down at her. She missed me. She doesn't want me gone. Sunny thought, her head now laying in Mist's lap, her hands running through Sunny's hair as she looked forward, spacing off. They sat like this for what felt like a glorious eternity before Sunny heard Mist.
"Before you fall asleep on me can I lay down too?" She muttered. Sunny hadn't realized she was almost asleep.
"Oh, yeah." Sunny sat up some, letting Mist slide down onto her back. Sunny then rested her head on Mist's shoulder and wrapped her arms around her.
"Goodnight." Mist whispered sweetly.
"G'night" Sunny mumbled, already half asleep. She could stay like this forever. Mist always had this coldness to her skin, which Sunny adored. The rise and fall of Mist's chest, her smell, her everything.
Mist being a cold bodied ghoul, she felt drawn to the warmth surrounding her.
Last night had to have been another one of those dreams where Sunny came back. Mist thought, wiping the tiredness off of her face with her hand. Wait. She couldn't lift her other hand. She couldn't feel her other hand, for that matter. She silently panicked, then, she looked over to see Sunny still fast asleep on her arm, which she couldn't feel anymore.
Mist studied her fellow ghoulette, watching how her shoulders moved as she breathed, looking at the toned muscle in her arms, the curve of her hips, how her face looked when she was asleep. She looked so peaceful when she was asleep. She looked like nothing could or has ever hurt her. Sunny was so amazing. Her smile could light up rooms. She could make anyone happy. She was so helpful and kind. Mist was close to the opposite. She kept to herself. She was cold. She was closed-off. She wasn't meant for her. Mist thought she might be in love, but she couldn't be. Sunny was her friend. People don't just fall in love with their friends.
"G'mornin' Mist" Sunny's voice was raspy and low from sleep.
"Mornin' Sunny, how'd you sleep?"
"Great. It's so nice to be back in my own bed." Sunny yawned. "How long have you been up?"
"Not long, maybe 20 minutes."
Sunny hummed in response. Neither of them were really morning people, in fact, Mist could hear sleep calling her name.
"Wanna get up and go grab some coffee? I think it's like eleven." Sunny was more asking to see if she wanted to get up, because no matter what Mist did, Sunny would follow happily.
Mist groaned in response, she didn't want to move from here, ever.
"Sounds good." Sunny mumbled into the crook of Mist's neck. Somehow, they'd barely moved throughout the night.
