Neji Hyuuga has always been a smart boy. By the time he was 10 years old, he had an IQ of 131, and he was top of his class at the academy. By the time he was 11 years old, he had mastered the Gentle Fist and was stronger than almost the entire head family, especially the absolutely (In Neji's humble yet always correct opinion) worthless heiress Hinata. Hinata was a weak girl, aways had been. She never gave her all when it came to things like sparring matches, and she was so easy to beat that it was pathetic. She was always trying to win sparring matches by any means other than violence, and it was clear that Hanabi, Hinata's sister that was five years her junior, would be a much better heir than Hinata herself could ever even dream to be. Hanabi understood that Hinata was never going to be strong enough to protect the clan, and she had realized from a young age that should Hinata fail to prove herself as a worthy clan heiress, than the weight of succession would fall to her. Due to this, she trained twice as hard as Hinata had ever trained in her life, and each time the two siblings sparred, Hanabi won by a landslide. Hanbai was Strong, Hinata was Weak. Neji respected Hanabi for this, for he too hated Hinata and wished to see her fail, and if he also thought that Hanabi was a very pretty little girl, well then that was nobody's business. By the time he was 12 years old, he was stronger than the entire head family (Except for Hiashi and Hanabi. Hanabi was on par with him.), and he was tied neck and neck for the top spot at the academy (Sasuke Uchiha, who was in the class below him, was also eligible for the top spot)
Neji walks through the village towards the Hokage Tower, having been told by his uncle, Hiashi Hyuuga, when he arrived home that he had been summoned by the Hokage. As he walks, he tries to think of what he could have done wrong that would result in a summons by the Hokage. 'Is it perhaps due to me pushing Lee in the lake during training with Guy-Sensei and Tenten yesterday? No, that can't be it. Pushing one's teammate into a lake is hardly worth a personal summons from the Hokage. Is it because I insulted the Chuunin working at the reception desk when she kept staring at me? No, that was her fault, so if anything, she would be the one getting reprimanded, not me. What could it possibly be then?' Neji is pulled out of his thoughts when the Hokage Tower comes into distance. He walks into the Tower, making sure to shoot the desk Chuunin a glare as he walks past her and up the stairs. He walks down the hallway, absent-mindedly staring at the pictures on the walls. The walls have pictures of the past Hokage, the current clan heads, and the pictures of the two village founders, Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju.
He eventually reaches the door to the Hokage's office, and he knocks once before entering. When he enters, he expects to see only the Hokage, but he instead sees both the Hokage and a masked individual. He quickly recognizes the masked figure to be a member of ANBU Black Ops, the elite of the elite, and he gives a small bow. "ANBU-San," he says quietly before giving his attention to the Hokage. "You summoned me, Hokage-sama?" He says to the elderly man sitting at the desk in front of him. This is the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. The Hokage gives a small smile to Neji. "Yes, I believe I did. I have something I have to speak to you about." The Hokage says, his smile turning into a frown. Neji frowns slightly at this, not quite understanding what is going on here. The Hokage sighs and turns his head to the ANBU standing beside him. This is the commander of the entire ANBU Black Ops, Dragon. Dragon nods and steps forward slightly, clearing his throat before beginning to speak. "It has come to my attention, Hyuuga-san, that you were able to defeat a Jonin level opponent when you were still in the academy, and that you are extremely smart." Neji nods when Dragon says this, a confused expression on his face. He doesn't understand what any of this has to do with him being summoned by the Hokage. "Basically, what ii am trying to say is that you posses two of the most important qualities that we look for in ANBU." Dragon says, watching as Neji's face slowly morphs from one of understanding to one of shock. "No. You can't possibly mean..." Neji says, his hand covering his mouth, which is agape (C'mon people, he may be shocked, but he still has manners). "Yes. You, Neji Hyuuga, have been recruited into ANBU Black Opts."
The silence is deafening. Then, "What?! What do you mean I've been recruited into ANBU?! You can't just do that to somebody almost a MONTH after they've already graduated and been placed on a team!" Neji shouts, shock and anger evident in his voice. His Byakugan has activated out of anger and stress (Being summoned by the Hokage is stressful enough, but being told that you have been recruited into the most dangerous part of the Shinobi workforce that is responsible for killing over 10,000 people a year is even more stressful). "What is wrong with you?! How do you expect me to deal with this???" Neji shouts at the Hokage and Dragon, the veins around his eyes pulsing. The Hokage sighs and turns his head to Dragon. "I told you he wouldn't handle it well, but did you listen to me? No, because nobody ever listens to the Hokage." Dragon just ignores the Hokage and turns to Neji. "Well, c'mon now, we don't have all day. Return to your home, pack up everything that you wish to bring along, and then report to training ground 44." and with those words, he Shunshined away.
