Pilot
The Village HIdden in the Leaf, Konoha, was in a peaceful calm as the spring breeze ran through the buildings. Hiruzen Sarutobi stood on the top of the Hokage’s office looking at the village with the Hokage Rock behind him. He put his pipe to his lips and lit it with a small spark of fire chakra. With a deep breath and a smile, he couldn’t help but relax at the peaceful site before him.
‘It’s so calm today.’ He thought, looking at the people on the street smiling and laughing. ‘If the other three Hokage could be here right now, they too would smile at-’ before Hiruzen could finish his thoughts a large bang came from the distance. The hokage’s eyes widened at the site of purple smoke coming out of the village. “What was that!?” He said as his Anbu came to his side.
Before the anbu could answer, two more explosions came out, these the colors of pink and orange. “We don’t know Lord 3rd!”
Suddenly a chunin appeared. “Lord Hokage.”
“What is happening!?” Hiruzen asked. “Is the village under attack!?”
“No, Lord 3rd.” The chunin sighed. “It’s Naruto Uzumaki.”
The Hokage took a deep breath. ‘I'm getting too old for this.’ “What did he do this time?”
The chunin looked at the fading smoke. “He placed several traps around the village with smoke-paint in them.”
“Naruto.” Hiruzen sighed. “Bring him to me. That boy is going to get the biggest lecture he won’t soon forget.”
“Yes, sir.” The four Anbu and the Chunin all said, before disappearing.
The Hokage looked to the village again, seeing some of the buildings covered in the paints. “Naruto.” He sighed once more. “What am I going to do with you?” He turned to the face of the 4th Hokage statue. “If only you were here, Minato.”
Time Skip
Two of the four anbu returned each holding an arm of the seven year old. Hiruzen looked at the two with eyebrows raised. The one on Naruto's right was covered with bright blue paint, the one on the lift was in bright red. The boy in the center was painted green, with a huge grin on his face. “Hey, gramps.”
“Naruto!” The Hokage began. “Do you know what you have done?”
The boy's smile brightened. “Oh come on, gramps. I thought the village could use a little more color.”
“Those traps you placed could have hurt someone!” The old man scolded, taking a step closer. “What if a child or a pregnant woman stepped on one!”
“Hmm.” The boy thought. “I didn’t think of that.”
“Exactly! You didn’t think!”
“But I made sure the bomb wouldn't hurt anyone.” The boy said, pulling his hands away from the anbu. “And I only put them in places where only shinobi can reach.”
“You don't know who could have been in the blast!” Hiruzen said, taking out his pipe and pointing it at the boy. “Anyone could have set them off!”
Someone cleared their throat, making everyone turn to face the new voice. Iruku stood looking at the boy. “Lord 3rd. The places the bombs were are on the tops of poles and the spots that shinobis use to jump around the village.”
“See!” The blond boy said.
Hiruzen deflated with a sigh. “That may be! But you caused a panic and painted the village!”
Naruto Smiled. “Yeah! But it looks better now.”
The Hokage narrowed his eyes at the boy. “You will not be allowed to go home until all the paint is cleaned off.”
“What!?”
“Iruku.” Hiruzen turned to the teacher. “You will make sure he gets the job done.”
“Yes, sir.” Iruku said, walking over to Naruto and grabbing the boy by his arm. “Come on Naruto.”
“But Iruku sensei.”
“No ‘buts’ Naruto.” The man said, taking the boy away.
‘That boy.’ Hiruzen took a breath from his pipe. ‘If he puts half as much effort into his studies and training as he does his pranks, he would be a great shinobi.’ A breeze came from the west as the old man looked at the Hokage mountain. “I don't know what I'm going to do with him.” He said, to the face of Minato. “I wish you were here.” He bowed his head. “You or Kushina.” He closed his eyes. ‘Sage help me. Send me a sign or something to let me know Naruto is going to be okay.’ He opened his eyes and turned to go do his paperwork. ‘Or something that can help the boy on the right path.’ Before he could go a strong wind came from the east. Hiruzen grabbed his hat for it wouldn’t fly away. ‘What was that!?’ He looked around, finding nothing. ‘The wind changed direction so quickly.’ He stood still for a moment and looked to the clouds. The wind was still coming from the west as it was before. ‘It’s probably my mind playing tricks on me.’
Unknown to the 3rd hokage, a figure was jumping from tree to tree making their way to the village. Jumping up to the top of a tree, they stopped and looked into the distance. The Hokage Mountain stood in the background. “It’s been a long time, Hashirama, Tobirama.” The figure said, looking at the village. “I wonder what has changed in the last couple of years.” They smiled and jumped from the tree, their red hair flowing in the wind.
