Chapter 2

Sakura had just woke up and got ready to start her day. She readied herself mentally because dealing with 200 patients really puts a toll on one. 3-hours of sleep was what she had been running on for the past week each day.

She looked back at her sleeping setup, which was her couch, as she couldn’t even make it to the bed to crash. She walked out of her flat, with her back turned to the street so she could lock the door. “Where are you going?” Sai asked, leaning on the rail of her second-story apartment.

“To work Sai, the sick won’t help themselves,” Sakura said, bored.

“How can you go to work if I called you in sick?” She stopped.

“What?” She finally found her voice.

“You look horrible and you might scare away the patients with your sleep-deprived face.” Sai stopped leaning and stood up straighter.

“Go back inside. I already informed Tsunade and she was more than willing to give you a day off.”

“That wasn’t your decision to make!” Sakura shouted half-heartedly, still kind of tired from the short rest.

“If I won’t take care of you…” Sai stepped forward. “Who will?”

Well that was new.

"Sai, I don't need you or anyone else taking care of me. I am a grown adult." Sakura said annoyed.

"But..." Sai started, but then Sakura stomped back inside, slamming the door shut.

Sai stared blankly at the door.

SAI POV

It was simple to Sai really.

You are tired.

sleep.

He didn't know why Sakura was so worked up about it. Sai noticed how exhausted she was. How she still went on missions, even while being the busiest doctor at the hospital, and how she never quite stayed at home for long periods of time.

Even in Root, shinobi's had breaks.

Partially because Danzo didn't want anyone to have a psychotic break and become useless, but still.

If he got to have a break in horrible conditions, shouldn't she, who was always there for everyone but herself, get a break too?

Sai turned around and headed to the Hogake's office, getting ready to start his day of missions.

But what Sai didn't realize is that if he saw anyone else in Sakura's position, he really wouldn't care.

After all, it was none of his business how someone else felt. But why was he so invested in Sakura's?

Perhaps it was simply because he had never experienced such a feeling before.

Oh well, he'll figure it out eventually.

Probably.

Hopefully.
