The chase
Yoichi would love to say he was capable of starting a conversation but he couldn't lie to himself like that. Yoichi was never a talkative person, he had been a reserved person all his life.
The years he had spent in a vault away from society probably didn't help him in all that much in that regard. So without knowing his new companions' names he followed them up the stairs of the bank's underground maze, still unsure about what to do from here on out.
As he walks higher he notices graffiti on the walls and soot on the ceilings. An unnatural amount of dust and dirt litter the floor. This was not what the building had looked like before he was locked in that vault. Once again he was reminded of how many years he must have been stuck in that vault. He was reminded of the state of the world when he left it.
The riots and distrust between people who had gained a power and those who hadn’t. He was surprised at the apparent lack of response by the government. How they ignored the growing animosity of their own citizens. How war seemed imminent.
He knows that over the years he heard a good number of explosions especially in the beginning, though there was a time there when he had stopped hearing them. As he was pondering if the war that had seemingly had to have taken place was over yet or not he noticed how they kept walking up past the first story. For good reason too, somehow when he was down there the ground has seemingly engulfed the first story of the building.
When they reached the second floor they were met with sand covering the old concrete and the beams of sunlight that reached in through open windows showed particles of dust light floating balls of light. Searing heat met the group's skin as they walked into the light. Yoichi had to suppress a gulp as it all hit him, the heat seemingly evaporating any moisture in his throat instantaneously.
Where the front of the building was supposed to be was rubble opening out into the world. A very very different one than he left. As far as he could see was sand and dirt. With large structures of concrete buried beneath the sand occasionally poking up above the ground.
He couldn’t see any roads or houses or any of the city that once stood here far in the distance he could see smoke and it scared him. It was the only sign of life he could see other than an occasional scorpion.
He stood there for what felt like minutes staring. Staring at what looked like a post apocalyptic world. He had so many questions.
When the two men started to get impatient and started to walk off, Yoichi jolted. Suddenly he realized that they were his only chance of getting any answers. Youchi wants to. no ,more like. He needs to know more. so he follows along all the while lost in his thoughts.
Yoichi knew that there must have been a war now. But even if there was one, where was everyone else? Were they alone? Yoichi would like the record to show that when he wondered if they were alone that was NOT him wanting to attract people. Gods, he does not want that with his social anxiety.
Only a few minutes after they had left the building they turned behind a large structure of what Yoichi could vaguely recognize as the toppled remains of a skyscraper lying horizontally across the ground.
In the shadows was a dark gray jeep with what looked like a giant slingshot haphazardly mounted to the roof of it. Slowly Yoichi got in as the men started to get in.
Soon enough they were driving off across the sand and through the ruins of the city Yoichi grew up in.
He sat in silence in the back of the jeep. Until he heard the sound of engines behind him. Yoichi moved to look out the window and saw a fleet of black SUVs and trucks coming chasing after them.
The man with the spiky red hair hit the acceleration and Yoichi was thrown back into his seat as a bang went off behind them followed by a ping of the side of the jeep. They just shot at them? And almost hit…
The blue haired man got up and climbed on the other seat, hoisting himself out the sunroof of the vehicle.
He heard footsteps on the roof. He ran up and stood on the seat looking out the sunroof as he watched the blue haired man take a pair of goggles out of one of the many pockets on his belt and secured them over his eyes before quickly turning around and positioning himself inside the slingshot.
He leaned down and pulled a lever and within a heartbeat he had been shot down to the fleet of death following them. He crashed hard into the leadcar following them crushing the trunk and engine under foot.
A flash of red energy exploded beneath his feet and sent him into the air as the driver of the car lost control and the car spun out from underneath itself. The torque tearing the wheels out from under it and crashing. The man then proceeds to land between the reset of the cars slowly building a bigger and bigger trail of energy beneath him as he blitzes between cars and trucks like a deadly blue pinball.
Finally he smashes into the last one exploding energy beneath him and once again rocketing into the air and back to the jeep. Even from the jeep Yoichi can see a man with spiky brown hair and black armor grabbing onto the blue’s leg.
In a moment of either pure adrenalin or insanity Yoichi grabs the leaver and barely manages to haul the lever out of its socket and run the back of the roof as blue lands. Branding the lever as a weapon Yoichi swinging wildly smacks the brown haired guy in the face… and it does nothing.
