Chapter 10
Jiraiya sat across from Sasuke during their weekly therapy session. This session started as any other, with the wafting stench of body odor permeating from the highschooler, his hair draping long past his shoulders and partly covering his darkened eyes. However, this session did not quite go as Jiraiya had planned. As Sasuke slumped in the couch cushion he asked Jiraiya a rather unusual question.
“Have you ever heard of a Kitsune?”
Jiraiya was perplexed. This had been one of the only sentences Sasuke had ever brought before him.
“No, I have never heard of that. What is it?”
Sasuke stared blankly into Jiraiya’s eyes. Not showing surprise, not showing any emotion. “It’s a fox spirit,” was all that he said.
They sat in an awkward silence for several moments. Jiraiya fidgeted with a small ceramic frog knick-knack which he had named Gamakichi as he observed Sasuke. He wanted to open this conversation, perhaps break the ice with this patient. “So, what does a fox spirit mean to you?”
Sasuke sat back averting his gaze. He gave a small shrug before responding, “I don’t know. I was only curious if you knew anything.”
And that was that. Jiraiya could not get the teenager to say another word during their session.
