Chapter 5
In his high school’s cafeteria, Sasuke ordered a small plate of chicken strips with fries and sat at an unoccupied table. Perusing the room, he made the same note as he did the day before, and the day before- he was the only student of Asian ethnicity here.
The ostracization of the lunch hour sunk deep within his core as he thought back to middle school in LA. He had many friends and met kids who were interested in the hobbies he liked. Now, in the mid-western town he was surrounded by jocks who teased him every passing period about his eyes, his skin, or even his unmentionables. One bully, Rock Lee, was by far the worst of his tormentors. Rock Lee was quarterback of the football team, and lead ringer for most of the senior class at this school. Sasuke was a Junior, but with his exceptional grades in LA he was able to pass a year at this school – which was another bullet for the bullies to use against him - because nobody liked a nerd.
Sasuke kept his head down and found that if he stopped trying, stopped caring for himself, stopped talking, then everyone would leave him alone. This led to his lack of hygiene as no one would want to stand near him. This led to his constant frown as then no one would approach him. He felt comfortable this way – though he could never shake the loneliness this left him within the world.
A screech of laughter filled the cafeteria which drew Sasuke’s attention to a long table of the “popular” kids. Sasuke then saw Sakura. The most beautiful girl in this school. She was perfectly built, her hair always pulled back exposing her soft feminine features and beautifully large forehead. Sakura was lead cheerleader and most definitely going to be nominated as Prom Queen this year. Her smile was contagious and with everywhere she went she was flooded by girls and boys who wanted a share of her beauty. Sasuke quietly watched her interact with her friends as his back slouched lower over the chicken strips.
There’s no way in hell I will ever get a chance with a girl like her. Not here – maybe not anywhere.
