Chapter 14
Tobirama was walking home from the Hokage tower, she had an intelligence report she wanted to give to Hashirama, who was once again at her house, probably spoiling her kids.
The intelligence report was one she knew he would be interested in. Apparently their former clan had disbanded with the many of the clan reported to have left their former compound. Where they would go she didn’t know. But she wondered if they would end up in Konoha. They had to know that Hashirama was the Hokage and the rules they had fought against would be in place here. But who knows, maybe they intended to leave Fire country all together and try to join one of the other villages that had popped up since the foundation of their own village.
Walking into her house she was met with a familiar sight, but one that still seemed to warm her heart.
Hashirama was sitting on the floor while Kumiko was standing on the couch behind him attempting to braid his hair. It looked like he had braided her long silver hair into traditional Hatake braids first. Her blue eyes were shining with happiness. She loved getting to play with Hashirama’s long hair.
Meanwhile Izuna was standing with Ichiro bouncing him while walking around, his hand cradling his head and brushing Ichiro’s adorable black hair, made unique with a white stripe down the center, with his thumb.
The two of them were arguing about who was the better uncle. An argument that seemed to occur every time they were in the same room together. Truly there was an easy answer. They both were the best uncles her children could have. They constantly spoiled Kumiko with sugary treats and unnecessary toys, and Izuna never put Ichiro down when he was around.
She had to marvel at her family, she really was so lucky to have them.
It made her reconsider bringing this up to Hashirama right now. She didn’t want to ruin the mood with news of the Senju.
“Are you two arguing again?”
“Yes! That big tree thinks that just because he has longer hair Kumiko loves him best.”
“I don’t think it, I know it. She prefers to braid my hair over yours.”
“Oji-Hashi, I love both of you!” Kumiko declared. Her sweet little voice was so sincere, how could they possibly argue with that?
“See! I told you she doesn’t love you more!”
“Yeah well she doesn’t love you more either,” Hashirama taunted back. Her brothers could be such children sometimes.
“Yeah well we both know Ichiro loves me more. He always cries when you hold him. That puts me at least two points ahead of you.”
“That's only because you cheat! You live next door and get to see him more than me!”
“Just another reason why I’m better.”
Tobirama rolled her eyes at them.
Walking over to Izuna she peeked at her son's face, as she suspected he was asleep. Soothed by the calm rhythmic bouncing of his uncle.
“Would you two like to stay for dinner? Mito is of course invited too.”
“I can’t Mito and I planned to go out for dinner tonight, it's been a while since we were able to and she has been craving ramen.”
“I understand, it's important to do things together.” Tobirama smiled at her brother. She loved that Hashirama was so happy with his wife, and it was important to spoil Mito while she was expecting his baby. Tobirama couldn’t wait to meet her niece or nephew. Ichiro and their baby would only be about 5 months apart and she couldn’t wait to see them playing together.
Hashirama stayed for another hour before it was time to meet Mito.
Tobirama then left the living room to start dinner, leaving both the kids with Izuna. Something he enjoyed, saying it was just another reason he was the better uncle.
Madara came home shortly after with Inarizushi, probably from one of the grannies in the clan. They did love to spoil her family.
When she went to get Izuna and the kids for dinner she found Izuna trying to teach Kumiko how to make puppy dog eyes to get people to do things for her. She couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Kumiko didn’t need any help with that. She had everyone wrapped around her little finger. Madara especially, who could deny her nothing.
“What are you teaching her?”
“Just important life lessons, it's important for a shinobi to know how to manipulate people.”
“She’s hardly in need of help with that.”
Izuna laughed, “yeah she really is good at it isn’t she, I taught her everything I know.” Pride evident in his voice.
“Come on, dinner is ready. Why don’t you give me Ichiro and I’ll put him in the sling so we can eat dinner easier.”
The sling she had been given by her grandmother was probably her favorite baby item. She had used it for both of her kids so she could continue to work without having to put them down.
Dinner was always a fun affair when Izuna was here, he always goofed around and made her laugh, though today she was a little more somber than usual.
They were eating the inarizushi when she looked over and saw Izuna sneaking a piece off of Madara’s plate and putting it on Kumiko’s. She wanted to chastise him but she looked so delighted Tobirama just couldn’t take that away from them. Today had already been emotionally draining, she couldn’t bear to disappoint her daughter too.
After they finished dinner Izuna ended up going home claiming he had work to get done, more likely he intended to go bug Touka. The two of them had been dancing around each other for a while. She wondered when one of them would finally give in and ask the other out.
Tobirama went about putting Ichiro to bed, softly singing to him as she rocked him, while Madara took care of putting Kumiko to bed. She always asked for him. She was a true daddy’s girl.
As she was getting ready to put Ichiro in his crib, Madara snuck in behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“I love watching you hold our son. You make me want another one so I can always see you with a baby in your arms.”
“Don’t get any ideas. I am not having another baby for at least a year. I want at least a few years between them.”
“Yes, yes. I agree, I just love seeing you like this.”
Tobirama just smiled. She loved her husband so much. She enjoyed the smell of him, his hair brushing over her shoulder, as he placed a gentle kiss to her neck.
“Come on, I need to put Ichiro down. Then you can have me all to yourself.”
“Oh I like the sound of that.” She felt him smile into her neck.
He then turned around and left the room, leaving her to put the baby down.
Tobirama then joined him in the living room. He was sitting on the couch so she sat down and leaned against him, using his chest as her pillow.
Madara took his hand and started to run it through her hair.
“Is something bothering you? You have been quieter today. Usually you give Izuna a lot more grief for spoiling Kumiko.”
“I got a report on the Senju today.”
Madara frowned. He really hated that clan. Though the war had been effectively ended by Hashirama and Tobirama leaving, he still wanted to destroy them for her. She had always denied him, saying she didn’t want to see them destroyed.
“And what did the report say? Are they causing problems for us?”
Madara immediately wrapped his chakra around her, radiating soothing feelings. He always knew how to make her feel better.
“No, nothing like that. The clan actually split, it became destitute, apparently their new clan head ran it into the ground. A lot of the Senju seemed to have left the clan. I wondered if they were going to come here and ask to join the village.”
“No.”
“Madara, we can't just stop people from joining. This village was built to protect people, especially children, and from the sounds of it, it's mostly families that have left. And even though we had our differences, they deserve to have the same safety as anyone else.”
“No they don’t, those monsters deserve nothing from us.”
“I don’t want them here either, but this village must continue to stand for bettering the lives of our fellow shinobi and civilians. I don't want to hold a grudge either. They aren’t worth my peace of mind.”
Madara nodded, “okay, if that's what you want I won't stop you. But if they step a toe out of line they are out of here. What did Hashirama have to say about it?”
“I didn’t tell him yet. He seemed so happy today I just didn’t want to ruin that. I’ll tell him in the office tomorrow.”
“That was probably a good idea, no need to make him blubber over here.”
Tobirama reached up a hand and gently smacked him on the arm. “Leave him alone, he can't help that he’s emotional.”
Madara just laughed, “oh I know, I share an office with him.”
“Don’t act like you don't like it. We both know you two spend half the day goofing off together.”
He put a hand to his chest and spoke in mock outrage, “we would never! I’ll have you know we are always very professional.”
“Mhm, sure you are.” Tobirama let her eyes drift closed, even with the conversation she felt herself relaxing in his arms.
“Come on get up, you don't want to fall asleep here. Your neck will hurt.”
“I don’t want to get up, I’m so comfortable.”
“I know, but you’ll regret it in the morning.”
“Okay, I’ll get up. Are you coming to bed too?”
“Of course, there is nothing I’d like more than to end my day with you in my arms.”
They got off the couch, changed for bed, and laid down. Madara making good on his earlier comment and wrapped her in his arms before falling asleep.
As she drifted off to sleep, she let herself reflect on everything that she had now, all the blessings in her life. It really was perfect. She had everything she could ever want and then some.
