Interrogation II
First name basis? That's rare in Japan, not so much in other countries. Shouta gains some ideas and possible scenarios about what happened to this boy or where he is from.
He watches as the teenager picks his chopstick when his eyes suddenly look at him.
Confuse why the boy is staring. Shouta, also stares back. Soon the boy relents and looks down at his food.
Then observes the boy as he unwraps the food, then immediately slurps into it—fast, too fast—that his mind cannot register what the teenager has done in that very second.
When it finally sinks in, he sees the empty bowl and empty treat box. Then gaze at the boy’s eye, blankly looking at him, like he did not do the impossible.
This boy could have the guiness record of eating fast. Probably will not be defeated in years, unless someone with such a quirk goes against him.
At that moment, Shouta doesn’t know what to feel. Should he feel relief that the boy has appetite or worries that the boy eats too fast like a soldier in the midst of a war zone? Someone faster than soldiers in a warzone.
Actually, his emotions have already made decisions on what to feel; even before his mind registers the situation, he feels sad. The boy was not doing this because of the excitement of eating the food, but a necessary action, or worse a habit forced upon him.
The boy experienced something or was trained to eat fast, for troubling possible reasons such as availability, the boy must be available all day; the boy couldn't even eat food in a peaceful manner. Not being able to relish the taste of it. Or the boy is always busy, busy with work trying to eat a living. There might be fear of food being stolen. There's several possible reasons.
It's amongst child labor, child soldiers, child neglect and child abandonment. Shouta doesn't know what he wants to be the reason amongst them. All of them are worse.
Shouta has an assumption, a guess of the boy’s past. A past that he has once tackled.
He heard the boy hum.
Shouta leans on the mirror, still assessing this boy, wondering how his body handles this much food intake in one slurps that he can’t even see the boy’s face being unmasked.
Yes, what is Kakashi’s appearance? Now that he thinks about it, they haven't even looked at the boy's face even though it's in Shouta’s first plan.
He hasn’t seen it. And he feels unbothered by it.
Normally Shouta by now will strongly request the boy to unmask his face.
But, Shouta feels this pity for the boy that adding something to it may cause the boy’s already bad mental health to get worse. Children like him should be treated gently, this notion made his mouth close , begging to open and utter those words.
He became silent for a few seconds, thinking of what to say. Something that will not hurt the boy more.
Then he opened his mouth. A thought has gathered in his mind
“We gather relevant data about recent villian's death from vigilante, and as far as the data says there's no kid going vigilante or there's no death that was caused by an unknown vigilante. Most of the vigilantes in this country are known by the Hero Organization or somewhat known by the organization with their nickname and past life due to their quirk, so, I presumed that you're not active in this country, probably why you're not in the system.” Shouta says with no breath in between and stares at the teenager in front of him, whose eyes were empty, no reaction again.
Even though he was caught red handed.
“Should I answer that without the lie detector next to you?” the boy says as he glances at where the detective's were before.
“No, let's wait for him” Shouta says, taking a breath then exhaling it.
Once again, he observes the boy, trying to get something out of him, through his body language.
“I'm back” the detective says as he opens the door. Shouta nods at the man.
His eyes back at the boy.
“Where are you from?” Shouta asks, straight to the point as he looks at the silver haired teenager.
“Somewhere but not here,” the boy answers.
Another vague answer.
“Truth”
Shouta thinks for a while, debating whether to ask further or investigate it later. Then, he decided to just contemplate the boy's answer.
Somewhere can mean that he's a drifter or a traveler and cannot reiterate where he went to but somewhere also means, he lives in one of the countries in this world and doesn't plan to give their names anytime soon. Based on the way he wants to be called he might have stayed in the western part of the world but he had a good language grasp of nihongo, no accent obviously let it out. He talks like a true Japanese person.
If it isn't the way he wants to be called and there's no records of his birth and family here, Shouta might believe that the boy is japanese.
Thinking that he doesn't gain much from this question, Shouta asks further.
“Hah, any names you can give?” he asks. The boy's stares at his face, his eyes reflecting the hero's messy hair and eye bags.
The silence is deafening
“So, have you ever killed a villain here, in Japan?”
“no”
“Truth”
“First time in Japan?”
“Yes”
“Truth”
“I see, wait here I'll be having a talk with the detective” Shouta says as he packs the mess on the table which are the dishes and chopsticks that the boy uses.
Then, exited the room with the detective following him.
.
.
.
“So, Mr. Aizawa, you have the same thought as me don't you?”
“Yes, the boy, Ha- Kakashi, seems to not be from our country, although his name says otherwise… Hah this is not within our jurisdiction” Shouta sighs and frowns.
“So, what's your plan Mr. Aizawa? There's no proof of his killing, only his confession, he's also not from here so he might get deported, but where will he be deported?”
Shouta closed his eyes, the boy's fate is to be deported somewhere, and it doesn't sit well with him. The boy is seeking help and he is not the type to turn it down.
The confession was not the problem. There's no evidence of death and killing, only the confession from the boy.
There's also a possibility that the boy believes that he killed someone but he truly didn't kill anyone.
That's the downside of the detective’s detector lie quirk. It's unknown whether it was really the truth or the person just believed it as truth.
And the confession is not enough evidence to convict him as a criminal, they need a weapon and a body.
If the boy believes he killed someone, he must have really experienced something horrendous. And if he did kill someone he was probably forced by his situation, after all he's not that bad, evident how he confesses his wrong doings. Or Shouta is just too soft, he admits.
Just a boy that strayed in the wrong path because of his surroundings.
And Shouta will try in his best power to not let it happen again. And make those empty eyes light up with hope.
The only person that could help him is the Principal of UA. Now he must make the preposition as appealing as possible. That rat will not agree if he doesn't find it benefiting or enjoying.
“I have a plan” Shouta says as he enters the room once again the detective follows.
He looked at the boy in front of him and said “do you want to stay in this country?”
The boy's emotionless eyes looked at him and said “If I can”.
.
.
.
For Kakashi, it's a hustle to learn other countries' languages and adapt to their culture. This country has almost the same culture with them, Ninja and Samurais. So, this is the best choice if it's really a choice.
Anyway if it doesn't work out he'll just live in another country, not as peaceful as this one but he has options.
He can walk to the water and rest in a boat and when the sunrise he can store the boat to a storage seal and go back to his journey. That's a long trip but the only thing he can access.
It’s faster running in water than going by boat.
“What's your quirk, Kakashi?”
Kakashi activates his Genjutsu and uses his hand to sign Chidori.
An electricity form in the boy's hand. “Electricity?”
“Have you studied?” the homeless man asks as he gazes at Kakashi's hand until the electricity in his hand left.
“It’s lightning not electricity, what kind of study?... Maa, I did study” Kakashi stated. If it's to study how to kill people, then he did study that, but normal schooling not so much.
Confusion materializes in Kakashi’s face and for some odd reason the hero cracks a smile.
“Are you going to continue hunting villains again or kill anyone?” the homeless man asked.
“No,” Kakashi said, he was certain, unlike Obito and Naruto, he’s more like Sasuke, indifferent.
He doesn’t look for trouble when trouble comes to him. In this unknown world, where his loved ones don't exist he won’t cause unnecessary problems in his life.
This isn’t Konoha, it's just not worth it.
Not worth his sacrifice.
If he wants to help someone he can help in another way. He has no savior mentality.
And Kakashi knows several ways to help someone. Killing is not the only way. His best trait is his intelligent mind.
Kakashi is, in a way, cunning. As a former Hokage, it’s a given trait, and as a prodigy, he’s smart. He can hatch a plan that won’t cause him a problem, unlike Naruto’s direct retaliation.
“Truth”
“Well, what’s your motto in life?” The homeless looking man asked.
Kakashi raised his eyebrows, good question: what is his motto in life?
Kakashi doesn't have a motto in life. He just followed his missions and do his job
He's not like Naruto who strives for the betterment of people around him. Not like Gai who wants to challenge everyone, mostly him or spread his youthfulness.
Not like Sakura who wants to be as strong as her teammates and save many people with her medical techniques.
And very much, unlike Sasuke who strives for revenge for his family against his brother, Itachi.
What is Sasuke's goal now? Oh- yes, to repay his sins.
Something Obito was not able to do.
Maa, Itachi. Another person he couldn't protect.
Itachi is a victim of circumstances, Kakashi knew that. He was ordered to kill his clan and family because they were a threat for the village. Itachi knew that.
The council also knows that Kakashi will never kill a friend or a co-villager, unlike his notorious nickname friend-killer, he is not like that.
On paper he might have been the best choice. He's the best ANBU. He's the friend killer and has the eye of an Uchiha. He has the best motive to kill the Uchiha clan. For greed, for their eyes. But he's the worst person for the job.
He's no friend killer.
The council also knows that Itachi is smart and loyal to the village.
So, the command that might have fallen to Kakashi was given to Itachi. The sure bet, although the circumstances told otherwise.
They're his family, he’s loved ones, and he killed them.
Kakashi never thought that the council would kill a fellow Shinobi. There must be a better way to do things. There are better ways, but they're so stupid and greedy that they sacrifice hundreds of lives just for this.
And Itachi and Sasuke were the brunt of it.
Kakashi knew the pain of killing a loved one. He killed one and now he is forever horrored about her deaths. And Itachi killed many, he's probably suffering more than him. Kakashi wished he could help, but he's no Gai and Naruto, a bright sunshine.
Itachi sacrificed too much, as his captain he let down his kohai.
A plan that will taint Itachi as a forever traitor. A monster that kills his fellow just for the sake of it, just for the challenge.
Kakashi just lives with the flow, not going against peoples ideals but not adhering to them as well. If he just tried harder, would Itachi have not experienced that? If he just noticed and used his intelligent mind, would that have not happened?
If only Minato-sensei had not died, everything would have been nice.
If only he did not kill Rin, Obito would not go that path and inevitably killed their sensei.
If only he was not weak and needed saving, Obito would be here. There would be no 4th shinobi war. It was all Kakashi’s fault, he let down Obito and everyone was the brunt of it. If only he had noticed the boulder, if only he had died there… ah he has a lot of regrets in life.
Kakashi thought all of that with his empty eyes gazing at the mirror, a reflection of a weak pitiful Kakashi.
So, What is his motto in life?
Probably the phrase that goes against his friend-killer nickname.
Those who break the rules are scum but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum.
Is that a motto?
What about this quote, to know what is wrong and to ignore it is an act of a coward?
By that statement, he's a coward.
He knew that the council was wrong in many things, especially Danzo. He knew it but did not act on it.
Unlike Sasuke and Naruto. They were the bravest people that he knew.
He's a coward. Another thing he already knew.
What is his motto?
Aizawa looked at the silver haired boy who was contemplating his answer.
Asking someone's motto has always been a hard question. One has to assess themselves.
But some people could say their motto instantly either because they never thought about it that much or they already thought about it.
And this boy is serious about his motto. He might not have thought about it before, but he's serious which is a good sign.
The silver haired boy then opens his mouth and says “I don't have a motto in li
fe, but I do have a famous quote… those who break the rules are scum but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum”
A phrase that he will follow to the death. Something he copied from someone just like his new nickname copy ninja.
