Summary
This is how I imagine Kawaki will get close to Sumire after chapter 16 of the manga.

After leaving Ada’s apartment, Sumire could still feel the anguish and confusion as she walked by the street. She stopped in front of a random building and laid her back on the glass showcase, using her arms crossed as support.

— Hey, when will you be done standing right there sulking?

Sumire raised her head, noticing a familiar figure standing in front of her.

— Kawaki-Kun! How long have you been there?

She asked surprised.

— Just enough to notice how lame you're looking.

He answered in a sarcastic tone.

— Oh… did you really stop by to say something like that at my face?

Sumire questioned unpleased.

— Yeah, there would be no fun to say it behind your back so…

Kawaki answered joking as he laid his back on the glass side to side with Sumire, keeping his hands inside his pockets.

— So you think being rude is fun?!

Kawaki shrugged.

— Hmm, I am not being rude, you know I am not, Sumire.

He looked inside Sumire eyes making the girl feel he was being sincere.

— Uh, yeah… sorry. I am just not used to you coming to talk to me for no reason.

— Tsch, I just saw you there alone and thought to check it out.

The purple-haired girl realized that the way Kawaki was treating her was actually something thoughtful, in his own way.

— Oh, I didn't think you  cared…

The girl replied, a little bit moved, keeping eye contact with Kawaki who responded with a slight smirk.

— It is not like that, I was just curious since you are always hanging out with that Uchiha girl when you come by Ada’s.

He answered in denial.

— Uh, how do you know I was visiting Ada?

— Is there any other reason for you to be walking close to her place?

Sumire looked around, she wasn't more than two blocks away from Ada's building, straight ahead on the same street.

— Fair enough… I guess I should keep going then…

Pain was notable in Sumire's voice, she started to walk by the sidewalk before she thought about waving a farewell to Kawaki she noticed he was coming along with her.

— What is going on, Sumire?

Kawaki asked, concerned, although he didn’t keep eye contact this time.

— Ergh… nothing important.

The girl answered sorrowfully. She wasn't able to turn her gaze at Kawaki, who, once in a while, looked at her with the corner of his eyes.

After some blocks ahead, Kawaki felt like the air was weighing.

— Hey, how long are you going to follow me?

He asked out of nowhere.

— Wahaha what?! I am not following you. I am on my way and you're the one who tagged along.

— Is that so? Where are you going then?

Sumire took a look around to situate herself, she was in a cross street with almost any passerby. Something about one mile away from Ada's place. She knew that neighborhood, it was halfway to Mitsuki's house.

— Uh… to any specific destination actually… hmm…

She said while she started playing with her fingers, embarrassed.

— Tsch, as I thought, you are acting quite off, little violet!

The taller boy mocked.

Sumire opened her eyes wide thinking:

“Did he just call me ‘little violet’?! He used to tease me with this nickname ages ago… I mean, before he had taken Boruto’s place in everyone memories…”

— Well, I am going to take a faster route, I don't even know why I wasted my time walking with you.

Kawaki said while he started to levitate.

Sumire frowned her forehead looking annoyed at Kawaki.

— Now you are absolutely being rude!

— Am I? I was just offering a ride.

Sumire changed completely her mood, she was stunned looking at Kawaki hovering just in front of her.

— A-are you suggesting you wanna carry me on a flight?!

Kawaki scoffed, looking to the other side. He landed on the ground again.

— Tsch, yeah, probably, not a good idea. Let's just walk then, if you wish.  But you must be faster, little violet.

He said resuming walking by the sidewalk turning his back to the younger one.

Sumire parted her lips  hesitating for two seconds.

“What just happened?”

Maybe she needed something new to distract her mind, even if that could be quite unpredictable .

(...)

Not much longer after the “unexpected hang out”, Kawaki saw Mitsuki jumping over the rooftops, he flyed to reach him letting Sumire behind.

The girl didn't take long to come after both and find them talking on the top of a random building.

— Hey, Class Rep, what are you doing here?!

Mitsuki exclaimed as he saw Sumire coming over.

— Hello Mitsuki, I was just walking nearby and decided to check out.

At that last statement, Sumire exchanged a glance with Kawaki, who raised an eyebrow in response.

— I hope my presence is not bothering you two.

She resumed talking looking at Mitsuki.

— Not at all. By the way, do you happen to know where Sarada is?

— Uhh… the last time I saw her she was at Ada's place. Did something happen?

— Yes, Konohamaru sensei called for us, we are leaving to a mission ASP.

— Oh, really, just the three of you?

— Yes, so far I know. I must be going, I guess I will check if I meet Sarada on the way so we go together to meet Konohamaru sensei.

— Right. Can you do me a favor then?

— Sure. Name it.

— Just tell Sarada to not overthink what I've told her earlier. And tell her… uh, I wish to talk to her when she comes back from the mission.

— Hmm, okay, I’ll tell her.

—Thank you, Mitsuki-kun. Good luck in your mission. Be careful.

— Don’t mention it. Bye Classrep. Goodbye, Kawaki.

Kawaki answered nodding his head. Sumire followed Mitsuki with her eyes till he disappeared from her sight. Her sorrowful look gave space to a worried one.

— So, that was about it.

Sumire turned her gaze at Kawaki who was staring at her for a while willing she would notice it with no need to him to speak, but it didn't happen.

— What do you mean?

— Tsch, the reason you are acting weird has something to do with Sarada.

— Ergh, kinda… I mean, yes, but it is not her fault.

— Is it yours?!

— Hm-mm, I let my emotions speak louder than my reason. — She answered while nodding.

— So you started the argument.

— Yeah, I brought up something irrelevant to the situation.

— Are you blaming yourself just because you didn’t make a clever point? It is not a big deal.

— It is a big deal when I was a fool. I acted like a jealous silly girl, to be honest...

Kawaki widened his eyes a little bit, after processing the informations he scoffed and said:

— “Jealous”? Is there something to do with Boruto?

— Yeah… I complained with Sarada about how she hugged Boruto in front of me…

— A hug, uh? How bad could that be?

— Well, bad enough to make me realize that  I will never have something like that, Boruto's heart belongs to her, I don't think I have a chance.

Sumire said with her voice and head down.

— The sooner you know it, the less you suffer. I am sure you will overcome this, you probably have plenty of better options.

Kawaki spoke in a cheerful sarcastic tone. Sumire raised her eyebrow looking back at him intrigued.

— Better options?

— Yeah, there are a bunch of guys who would be glad to hug you.

The boy replied, sounding casual. Sumire twisted her eyebrows and said:

— It is not that kind of guy that I need.

Kawaki rolled his eyes.

— Don’t get me wrong, I am just saying you probably are a girl easy to fall for, it is not like Boruto is the last man on the earth.

— Uh… What are you saying? Am I easy to fall for? How could you know it?

— Tsch, never mind. Just find someone worthy and who loves you first.

— “Who loves me first…” uh…

Sumire whispered to herself and them looked inside Kawaki eyes, there was something tender in the way he looked back at her, despite his neutral facial expression.

— Hmm, probably it is harder than a Rank A mission. Good luck with that, little violet.

Kawaki broke the eye contact and jumped back to the street beneath them. Sumire came after him.

— You know, you are not so bad at love advice. Maybe you should consider them to yourself.

— Nonsense, that doesn’t apply to me.

— Well, you already have someone who loves you.

— Tsch. I don’t have time for Ada. Romance is just a distraction, I have higher goals for my short life.

— Short life?! Don’t say something like that! I thought you had given up on that Otsutsuki death list that included you as the last one!

The purple-haired girl spoke in worry.

— Never, the list is still there, I’ve just moved Boruto to be the very one before the last. Or maybe we will kill each other at the same time.

— Or MAYBE he will defeat you and rip out of your stubborn head that stupid idea! You both must live!

Sumire stepped in and stood in from of Kawaki with a fierce look. The boy parted his lips and scoffed.

— Both of us?! I didn’t think you care if I die.

— Of course, I care! Where did you get that from?

— Since you have been working with Sarada and Ada for three years to now to prove I am the guilty one, not Boruto.

Sumire exhaled making a sound.

— We just wanna things to come back the way they were before.

— Yeah, that means the death sentence will be on me.

— It will not, if you bring The Seventh and Lady Hinata back! You are a liar, not a murderer.

Kawaki twisted his eyebrows before the girl’s boldness.

— The only way I bring them back is when all the Otsutsuki have been defeated. Including Boruto.

— Including Momoshiki, you should have said. Boruto is not your enemy.

— There is no Boruto anymore, Sumire.

— Of course, there is and he is stronger than ever, as you proved yourself. I am sure he is already free of Momoshiki's grip, you should trust Boruto's self-control.

— I did. For now. But in any sign of that beast getting loose, I won’t have any other choice.

— That won’t happen.

— You can’t know that.

— Yes I can!

Sumire answered with a cheerful confident smile.

— Tsch. It seems like you come back to your normal weirdness, little violet.

Kawaki teased.

— “Normal weirdness”?!

— Yup, it suits you better than the lame face you got when I found you earlier.

Sumire raised her eyebrow.

— Sure. So now, what is the plan?

— Hmm, find you a boyfriend to make you forget Boruto?

Kawaki answered joking.

— Nooo, I am not talking about that. — Sumire rolled her eyes. — I am talking about getting you stronger. You want help with that, don’t you?

Kawaki furrowed his eyebrows staring at Sumire in confusion, he then realized Ada must have updated Sumire about his last talk with Boruto, when he told him that Amado was suppressing his true powers.

— Can you do it, though?

— Hm-mm. Look for me in the Scientific Department.

The girl answered with a wit smirk and waved Kawaki a farewell, jumping on some rooftop.

The bicolored-haired boy looked at her leaving and laughed under his breath as he was thinking:

“I guess, she is weirder than I thought. I like this girl.”
