Someone like you (Sasuke x reader one shot)
I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
"Can we all give a toast to the happy bride and groom?"
Everyone in the room cheered, congratulating the now engaged Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. Sakura looked over the moon, while Sasuke, not so much. He wore his usual scowl, onyx eyes scanning the room to try and find you. His darling girlfriend.
As he thought, you had left. Naruto was still sitting at the table the two of you shared. The blonde's eyes were downcast. Clearly he was thinking about you.
That made it all the worse.
You were Naruto's younger sister, in love with his best friend. The girlfriend of your brother's best friend. So why on earth was he getting married to another woman?
Beneath your congratulatory facade, your eyes held a hidden sorrow. Your smile a fragile mask to conceal the ache in your heart. Your mind raced with unspoken words, emotions entangled in a mess you couldn't articulate.
Guess she gave you things, I didn't give to you
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light
You couldn't sit there any longer. Every cheer. Every congrats, broke your heart. Telling Naruto that you needed to get air, you excused yourself. As soon as you made it out of the banquet door, your legs gave out. You sat on the floor, sobbing.
That was supposed to be you. Not Sakura. Not your best friend.
A gentle hand was placed on your shoulder, causing you to sharply turn around. There stood the brother of the soon to be husband. Getting onto the floor with you, Itachi pulled you into his arms, rubbing your back.
"I'm so sorry (Y/n)."
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over
"I never wanted father to make him marry her for our companies to merge. Not when he was with you. It's wrong. And yet, here you are. Still willing to support the two, though it is crystal clear that you hate their relationship. That you hate their marriage. Everytime that my younger brother sees your face, his heart breaks more and more. He knows how badly you're hurting, because he's hurting that bad too. For him, it isn't over."
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
"Don't forget me, " I beg
I remember you said
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"
A couple of days passed since the engagement party. Though it was only a few days, your family and friends noticed numerous changes with you. You stopped smiling. You avoided your friends in the hallways. You deleted multiple of your friends' numbers off of your phone. Calls were always sent straight to voicemail and messages were unanswered.
It was lunchtime at your highschool and your friends all sat together. There was one person missing.
You.
"She just hasn't been the same." Naruto said with his head buried into his knees, "She's stopped talking. Stopped smiling. She hasn't eaten for days. She thinks that I don't know that last bit though."
Sasuke's eyes widened at the news. Him and his fiance sat across from Naruto in the circle, the others around them.
Feeling the need to double check what your brother had spoken he asked, "What do you mean she stopped eating?" There was a sense of urgency in his voice.
He wouldn't be able to stand it if he was the reason that you were no longer caring for yourself. Shutting people out was bad enough.
Naruto looked at the floor before speaking, "She thinks that I don't know. She claims that she went eating with one of our friends or she says that she already ate. Mom and dad believe her, but I know better. She gives her lunches away to the children who can't afford them. I also know this because I saw her do it. She no longer sleeps at night, crying. She's broken. She's hurt."
Sasuke averted his eyes, no longer able to look at his best friend. Not after knowing that. Shikamaru looked at your boyfriend before seeing you at the other end of the cafeteria. You accidently made eye contact, making you turn around and run away.
You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days
Shikamaru all but ripped the sheets off your bed, throwing you to the ground.
"Get ready young lady! No if and or but! NOW!" Quickly scrambling off your place on the ground, you rushed to your shower. Panic and adrenaline flowing through your body, you were out of the shower within ten minutes.
"Shika! What is it?"
Currently, the boy was sitting on your bed, which he just made. "I had to wake you up so then you would be ready for the carnival! Troublesome woman!" You had forgotten about the festival. Every year, all of your friends and everyone's family, would head down the carnival.
That meant Sasuke and his family would be there.
"On second thought Shika, I don't feel well. I think~"
"Too bad! Nothing sugar can't fix." With that, he pulled you out of the room, sitting with you and Naruto in the living room.
Until the time to leave for the carnival, you watched Christmas movies. It seemed fitting as it was winter and close to Christmas. It had been two weeks since Sasuke's engagement party.
Halfway through Arthur's Christmas, a knock was sounded on your front door. Minato answered.
All of your friends and their families stood on the other side. Sakura was standing at the front. "Come on! Let's go to the carnival!" Everyone cheered in agreement. Naruto and Shikamaru got off the couch, making their way to the front door. You, on the other hand, did not make a move to get up. Kushina's eyes held worry, looking at your sad form.
"Troublesome woman, are you coming?" You shook your head. Sighing, he picked your form up bridal style walking to the door. The others laughed as you tried to make your way out of his hold, whining like a child.
He allowed you to stand up, handing you your boots.
"Don't make me put your boots on your feet." Grumbling many colourful words under your breath, you slipped them on, along with your jacket. Shikamaru gave you a smile, taking your hand.
"Come on."
The people on the outside of the door parted ways, allowing all of you to exit your house.
Your heart stung as you looked at Sasuke and Sakura, standing side by side. Looking at the floor, you didn't notice the worried eyes Mikoto cast upon you. Wrapping her arm around her husband's, she took note of the solemn faces both you and her son wore.

"Care to indulge in the tempting delights of the funnel cakes?" You shook your head at the Nara's question. He frowned. Normally when he used 'intelligent' language like that you would break into a beaming smile. He was about to speak up when all of a sudden . . .
"Are you dumb! We need to get mini donuts and hot chocolate!"
Shikamaru finally smiled at you, happy that he could coax you into eating something. Your older brother who was attached close to your side breathed a sigh of relief.
"Okay deal," Naruto poked your side. "Whatever you want sis."
Throughout the night, it was obvious that you were trying to avoid being near Sasuke. The raven haired admitted, that if he were you, he would have stayed away as well.
The entire group agreed with you, following you and Shikamaru to the fast food stands.
After ordering for the group, you found an unoccupied area where you could all sit and chat. You were sandwiched between Shikamaru and Naruto. Small talk was made between everyone, but you were a little preoccupied with stuffing the delicious food down your face. It wasn't everyday that you got mini doughnuts and hot chocolate!
At this time, no one noticed that Sasuke and his mom slipped out of the group.
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over
"Mom! Please! I don't love her! I never will! I love (Y/n)!" The young boy had tears streaming down his face. What surprised him was his mother did too.
"I know that you do. I think~" she trailed off. She didn't want to give her son any false hope. "For now, let's just join the others. We can discuss this later."
Sasuke's voice cracked with raw desperation, tears flowing freely down his face, pleading for understanding. "I love her."
"I love her too, son."
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
"Don't forget me, " I begged
I remember you said
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"
Fugaku was walking around the Uchiha mansion, looking for his two sons and wife. He eventually found all three of them, sitting on the dining table.
"We need to talk," the Uchiha patriarch spoke, "It's about Sasuke's engagement."
Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?
"(Y/n)!" Sasuke was running to catch up with you. It was lunchtime and you were heading down to the library to study. You spun around to look at Sasuke.
"H-hey S-Sasuke."
His approach halted your steps, your breath catching in a rush of conflicting emotions you couldn't voice. What the hell were you supposed to say to him?
The young male frowned slightly. "Look, I need you to come over for dinner at my house. Bring your family. Please." With that, he ran off once again.
Sighing a little, you figured that you were obligated to go. He even invited your family, though it wasn't unusual.

Your knock on the door was answered almost immediately. Mikoto greeted you eagerly. Smiling at her, you gave her a warm hug.
"Here are some cupcakes." You placed the container into her hand. Mikoto and the Uchiha family adored your baking skills. Especially when you made the cupcakes.
The Uchiha matriarch squealed in delight, stepping out of the way so all of you could enter.

Dinner was served an hour after your arrival. It was all of your favourites. You smiled at the spread. Everyone seated themselves around the table, making small talk.
Fugaku then tapped his silverware on his glass, signaling that he had something to say. Quiet filled the room.
"Sasuke, would you like to tell her?" Confusion was evident on both Naruto and your face. Your parents were already well aware of what was happening. The tense atmosphere thickened as Fugaku's words hung in the air.
But to Sasuke, the words were enabling. The boy nodded eagerly. Rising from his seat, he walked to where you were sitting. For a fleeting moment - he hesitated, his gaze flickering between your two families, the weight of his thoughts evident on his face.
"We called off the engagement. I'm not getting married to her. That being said..." Cupping you under your arms, he lifted you into a standing position. Getting down on his knee, he reached for something in his pocket.
His voice trembled as he uttered the words, vulnerability laid bare in the quiet sincerity of the moment. "(Y/n) (L/n), the only girl I ever have and ever will love. Well, unless we had a daughter, I would love her too. Would you marry me?"
Tears flooded your eyes, streaming down your cheeks. Getting onto the floor, you embraced him, and he did not hesitate to hug you back.
"Is that a yes?" Itachi teased from the table. You nodded your head, tears of joy still falling.
"Good," Sasuke mumbled in your ear. "I love you so much (Y/n). I will never find someone like you."
