Manny Noceda: I will believe…one day, someone will come to finish what I started. And when that day comes, Belos, I will see you in Hell!
Her papa’s words rang through Luz Noceda’s head as she looked around, taking in her surroundings. Bonesborough was a mass; there were fires littering the streets. Buildings had large chunks taken out of them, and some were on the verge of collapsing. Cars were overturned, and she could see some red strains leading away from them.
The young girl looked at her body, frowning. Her Omega form was in rough shape; her body was battered and bruised to the point it wasn’t recognizable anymore. She was also having trouble keeping herself in that form as she was leaking the bluish “blood” from multiple wounds.
Luz was knocked out of her thoughts when she heard a wet snap and rolled to her left. She bit her lip to keep the wince at bay as the move irritated one of her wounds. The young woman got to her feet and ran for cover. She ducked and went into a baseball slide when a muddy limb glowing with red energy whipped at her.
Luz jumped to her feet and ran down a two-way alley, distancing herself from the monster she was fighting.
Lzu didn’t stop running until she was at least half-block away. She leaned against the wall, trying to catch her breath while watching for any more surprises.
“Where is everyone?” Luz asked, trying to remember what her friends were doing before everything went crazy.
The last time she saw Willow, she was trying to help the BPD get the citizens to safety. Luz closed her eyes and sank to the ground as she remembered an explosion in the direction Willow was heading towards.
The young woman clenched her head when she heard a monstrous roar. She knew it wouldn’t be long before the monster was upon her. Luz knew she couldn’t stay much longer but could not move, still lost in memories.
Luz remembered that she sent Gus and her cousin Hunter to destroy the shield device that turned the sky red and blocked out the sun. She looked and frowned when she saw the sky was still red.
Does that mean her two friends had failed? Or worse, were they killed?
Luz shook her head, trying to clear her head of those kinds of thoughts. But no matter how she tried, the bad thoughts wouldn’t stop. Her thoughts turned to the last two members of her team.
“Vee…” Luz muttered, tears welling up in her eyes. “I just got you back.”
Luz pressed her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, her thoughts turning exclusively to her twin sister. It hadn’t been a whole year since her twin returned, and Luz was just starting to reconnect with Vee.
Now, she might be gone, all because Luz made the call to send her sister and the woman she loved to the enemy’s stronghold to cut off the monster’s power at its source.
“Amity,” Luz moaned, her thoughts turning to her girlfriend. “Are you safe…are you alive?”
Luz couldn’t help her tears back anymore; thinking that her girlfriend might be dead or dying something was too much. She leaned her face into her knees and openly wept. All Luz could see was Amity’s golden eyes, which once had such life in them, now frozen in horror.
The young girl heard a noise and knew what it meant. Luz stood, not bothering to look at the approaching monster. She knew it was over; most of her friends were probably dead or dying. The city was in ruins, and its citizens were cowering in some bunkers, waiting for their new masters to inform them that the Omega Owls were no more.
“...Mami, Papa, I’m sorry,” Luz muttered sorrowfully, a shadow looming over her. “I tried, but in the end, I wasn’t the owl that this world needed.”
