6 - Oh Mama
Two weeks later, Sakura remembers her boys and wonders if they exist in this world. She remembers this because her mom brings her to the hospital for her three-month check-in. Her eyesight is better than when she was at her 100 days. A testament to her iryō-nin skills, if anything. Which is not normal for civilian-born babies but typical of those born to shinobis or those born to chakra-intensive people. Her mother is in the pediatric ward, which sits next to the OBGYN ward, when she feels a chakra signature very familiar. She's swaddled tight to her mama's chest so she has to strain to turn her teeny tiny head to the left.
Through her not-so-blurry sight, she can make out a woman with long navy black hair, pale skin, and equally black eyes. Her chakra signature is kinda muted but has hints of smoke and ozone. Sakura doesn't need to think to know that this is Sasuke's mom.
It's the second week of July, Sasuke was born on July 23rd. His mom must be here to confirm the final details of her birthing and follow-up plans. Maybe even checking into the hospital if she wants.
Sakura immediately starts to twist and turn, showcasing her discomfort.
“Sacchan?” Her mother calls, her tone worried. Sakura never acts up in public, granted this is her first time leaving the compound at all since her birth. Her mother's hands come to take her from the sling across her chest and inspect her. Her nii-chan is at home doing his shrine duties, begrudgingly, if the pout on his face when they left was any indicator.
Now free from the sling, Sakura opens her eyes wide. She's passed the newborn blue, and the emerald green SHINES. Her eyes instantly take in the still hazy figure stretches her arms out in her direction, and kicks her legs.
The image she projects is desperate and demanding to be hugged. By this stranger.
She can't see her facial expressions well, but she does see the woman tilt her head and rub her own large belly. Her muted chakra signature is bemused. Sasuke's chakra signature is calm. He must be sleeping.
“She's a beautiful baby girl. She has your eyes.” The woman says, her voice is elegant.
Mebuki chuckles, “Thank you. She gets her hair from her father.”
Sakura is placed on her mama's lap and bounces. She doesn't want to be bounced. She wants to be held by the presumed Uchiha matriarch.
“Her father- are you married to a Haruno?” The woman asks, tone intrigued.
“Hm? Oh yes. Haruno Kizashi in fact,” Mebuki states unbothered. Sakura is also very curious. To her knowledge, back in her original world, her parents were first-generation shinobi. Her dad came from a family of furniture merchants and her mother from tea merchants. Now, her papa came from a noble monk lineage, according to her brother. In this world, she has no idea what her mother’s background could be. Though judging by her chakra stores, she must have been a chūnin at the very least before she married and during the war.
“Oh my! The clan head? Pardon me, Haruno-sama,” Mikoto demurs. And Sakura, despite still being bounced on her mother's lap, is shocked. Was her family lineage so important that the Uchiha Matriarch would take such a tone with her? “My name is Uchiha Mikoto.”
“Ara ra~ The Uchiha Matriarch? It’s a pleasure to meet you!” The two women exchange pleasantries and somehow, decide to call each other by their first names. They also exchange information about each other and bond quickly.
