Chapter 88

After everyone had finished eating, and were waiting for the command to end dinner, Kenshin surprised everyone again. He walked to the middle of the table and the dirty plates disappeared, replaced by a huge cake, on a small stand, with the words "Welcome to the family, Nakayama Kasumi" written on it

Seeing the unknown but appetising looking thing, and the elegant text, Kasumi was almost speechless. Kenshin, meanwhile, took a knife, and cut off the nicest piece with lots of cream and chocolate, as well as fresh strawberries.

- Try it, sweetheart. This whole event is for your sake. - Kenshin said with a smile, and handed a small plate to Kasumi.

The girl took the outstretched plate with particular trepidation, and at first she did not know how to approach this unusual delicacy. She could tell from the strawberries on the top that it was something sweet, but she had no idea what it was.

Seeing the barely perceptible hint of a small dessert spoon, Kasumi finally 'scooped up' a piece of cake with lush, white cream, and brought it to her mouth.

- Ah! God, this is delicious..." Kasumi murmured, causing everyone to salivate profusely. Especially Aya, who was impatient and loved all things delicious.

- Kenshin, give it to me, please! - Aya whimpered like a little girl, adding more puns to the situation. All of her sons were feeling strange at this point, and were happily willing to give their mother their portion, just to keep her happy.

Kenshin had predicted the behaviour of the Nakayama family's main sweet tooth in advance, so he was already holding a plate of Aya's portion.

- Aaaahhhh! - Aya moaned as she licked the white cream with her tongue. - Oh my God, what is this? Why does it taste so good?! - She chirped, and scooped up another piece.

Kenshin had to wield three knives with his telekinesis, and the room was filled with blissful sighs of surprise. After a dozen seconds, everyone had their portion, and the room filled with blissful gasps of surprise.

- Mmm, this is really good. What kind of dish is this? - Natsumi asked, surprised by the incredible flavour. She was usually cold to delicacies or sweets, but now she couldn't help but moan softly.

- It's a cake. A very tasty treat of my homeland. - Kenshin said with a smile.

As soon as everyone heard the word 'homeland', they instantly focused. No one had ever heard Kenshin mention his origins in any way. Everyone guessed that their beloved husband and father came from far away, but no one knew the details.

But to everyone's dismay, Kenshin didn't go into details. His sons were not in a position to question him about such things, and the girls were busy with a tasty treat.

For drinks, Kenshin ordered a glass of good blue sage tea for each of them, to mix business with pleasure. He was surprised to find this incredibly valuable drink on the menu, and he was glad that he would not have to think about where to plant the blue sage, for the area near the mountains was no longer safe.

After everyone had finished eating, Kenshin announced the end of dinner, and wished everyone a good night. The sons thanked their father for the meal, and moved in an organised group towards their "barracks"

All three girls walked towards their new bedrooms with satisfied faces. As soon as they got upstairs, Kenshin told each of them to choose a room, and he took the largest bedroom.

- Choose a room? But... But I thought we were all going to sleep together..." Aya muttered surprised.

- Honey, we're getting too many of us, and besides, you and Natsumi will be much more comfortable sleeping in a spacious bed. Remember how uncomfortable it was when I slept with you two pregnant women? - Kenshin said affectionately, and kissed his first wife.

- Um... Natsumi? - Aya whispered, trying to find approval from her friend.

- Fuuuuuh... Aya, honey, he's right. Even though I don't like the idea, it's better for the future children. You and I need a good night's sleep, and with those two," she glanced at Kenshin and Kasumi, "we're not going to get a good night's sleep.

Aya shifted her gaze to Kenshin's loving eyes, and resigned herself to the new rule. Kenshin spent a few more minutes explaining that any of the wives could come to his place and stay the night without any problem, but not all at once. This night, Kasumi slept with Kenshin, without the slightest objection from Natsumi and Aya. She was the culprit of the celebration, and the only one of them without a big belly.

Then everyone went to their rooms, and Kenshin and Kasumi got into bed, she suddenly hugged him, and asked: - Kenshin, tell me where you're from. Everything about you is incredibly mysterious and unfathomable. Strange abilities, strange home, strange food, you're like a god descended from heaven.....

- And you are the most curious girl... - Kenshin whispered, and kissed Kasumi on the lips.

- Okay, I'll satisfy your curiosity a little bit. First of all, of course I'm not a god. Secondly, you're right, I'm really not of this world.

As soon as Kasumi heard the last words, she took a deep breath. She was stunned by this news. It was one thing to vaguely suspect, but it was another to find out it was true.

- But... But how did you get here? Who are you really? What is your world like? - Kasumi mumbled nonstop, unable to contain her natural curiosity.

- Shh..." He whispered, and put a finger to her plump lips. - I don't know how I got here, but I really want to know. Who am I really? Well... I'm a human being, just like you. And my world... It's like yours, but it has no chakra at all, and only ordinary people live there.

- No chakra? So there are no wars and endless killing in your world? - Kasumi muttered in surprise. Before, she couldn't even think of what would happen if the world suddenly lost all of its chakra. Now that she thought about it, she immediately surmised a beautiful world without killing and bloody wars.

- Um, not really. My world has had many more bloody wars than yours..." Kenshin sighed, remembering the two world wars that had claimed at least a hundred million lives in total.

- What? But how? How can people without chakra make an even bloodier war than ours? - Kasumi said with surprise. She refused to believe that mere humans could kill many people. In her opinion, a weaker army would just have to sit in a fortress for a few months and wait for the invaders to run out of patience and resources.

- We have something worse than chakra. Technological weaponry. - He said, and Kasumi immediately began to imagine bows with better tension, or non-blunt swords, but even so she couldn't see what the problem was with defending herself against these weapons.
