Chapter 9
*****
Kenshin pulled the stunned girl inside, and left her things in the "corridor", locking the door behind her. Aya couldn't believe her eyes, it was as if she had entered a fairy tale, or at least the home of an incredibly rich man.
- Did you build this? But how? - The girl asked stunned.
- Every wizard has his own secrets... And you haven't seen all this beauty in good light yet! - The young man answered proudly, and pulled the girl into the "living room".
Kenshin pulled out the two candles he had taken from Aya's house, lit them, and extinguished the torch, handing one of the candles to the girl, not wanting to ruin the beautiful mosaic ceiling of the living room with soot.
The girl took the candle handed to her and stared at the splendour before her; it was the first time she had seen such a beautiful dwelling, and she could not conceal her astonishment.
- Here, come here, hold this. - Kenshin said, handing her the second candle, and he took a small stepladder and put it in the middle of the room, then stood on it and began to remove the "plafond". Aya didn't understand what he was doing, but obediently did what he asked of her.
Kenshin unscrewed the white plafond, and carefully climbed down to the floor with it. Kenshin unscrewed the top of the lamp, then took out a small nail and scratched something on the inside. The young man scratched thoughtfully for a few minutes, then stopped, then scratched again, without bothering to explain.
Though he had drawn the runes in his mind several times before, and had even scrawled them on the ground once this morning before he shaved, the "ritual" took him a good five minutes, and he almost got it wrong several times.
Kenshin climbed up the stepladder again, and started screwing the plafond back in, and then scratched something on the outside of the plafond, and a few seconds later the plafond flickered a few times, and then lit up with a bright white light, scaring the poor girl.
Aya, seeing the suddenly lit plafond, jumped back in fright and almost dropped both candles, shrieking in fright.
- Aaah! God, Kenshin, what is it? - The girl muttered in shock, squinting against the bright light.
- This is a primitive lighting formation. It's not yet designed to be switched on and off by anyone, but I'll get to it tomorrow, and I'll do it right! - Kenshin replied in the coolest possible tone, as if it were a worthless nonsense, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't hide the glint in his eyes and the occasional strained smile. The young man was immensely proud of the result.
As she got used to the bright light, Aya looked around, and again she couldn't hold back a surprised sigh: "God, it's beautiful..." she murmured, admiring the beauty of the wallpaper and the mosaic ceiling. She couldn't help herself, and gently stroked the back of the large leather sofa, enjoying the sensation.
- Don't be afraid, he won't bite. Here, sit down. - Kenshin said, and sat down on the couch, taking the girl next to him.
- Ah! God, Kenshin, we're dirty, and we'll spoil such beauty..." Aya groaned, and picked up her whole body, wanting to make as little contact with the unprecedented luxury as possible.
- Come on, this is our home now, and you're not a guest here, you're the hostess. You can tear up this couch and no one will say anything to you.
- W-what? Tear such beauty? Never! - The girl said with a gentle smile, relaxing a little, and finally leaned back on the sofa and moaned softly, for the first time on such a soft and high-class sofa.
Kenshin himself leaned back on the sofa, and relaxed his tired muscles a little. After resting for five minutes, he got up from the sofa, and said: - Rest a bit, you can lie down, the sofa doesn't bite. I have one more thing to do.
Aya nodded, and continued enthusiastically looking at the beautiful wallpaper, the large dining table, the dresser, the two armchairs, and many smaller details, enjoying the luxury of her new home.
Kenshin, meanwhile, went to the bathroom, lit a candle, placed it on the sink, and fetched a stepladder, working on another plafond. The second time, the young man was much quicker to draw the desired formation, and made the bathroom light.
When he had finished with the lighting, he glanced at the large tank bolted to the wall near the ceiling, in the manner of a "water heater". He had originally wanted to install a classic water heater, but when he realised that the "system" would not allow any electronics, he changed his mind. He used a typical tank from Aya's backyard as the basis for his "magic water heater", and the system immediately caught the images and offered him suitable designs, adapting to his wishes.
Kenshin chose a tank that could be dismantled into two parts without too much difficulty. The tools at the young man's disposal were quite ordinary. The system allowed him to create the simplest tools, such as kitchen knives, a spanner, a hammer, an axe, a saw, and a few others. No weapons, and no tools for specialised tasks.
While all items in the shelter were prohibited from being taken outside the shelter, this prohibition was partially lifted for the tools, and the tools could be taken outside for up to eight hours. After this time, the tool would disappear and would not reappear until 30 days later.
The young man, having read all sorts of explanations in the system, was greatly surprised to find that the "system", though it offered tremendous opportunities, offered virtually no loopholes for gaining an unfair advantage where it was not originally intended. Whether it was taking and selling things out of the house, or using electricity to consciousness technological things and mechanisms.
But Kenshin was happy with what he had. He was glad that he wouldn't have to worry about a warm bed and a hot shower. He also realised that if he didn't become powerful enough, a shinobi of the Kage level would only need one swing of the hand to destroy his magnificent dwelling, and soft pillows and terrycloth dressing gowns wouldn't help him in battle.
