Sacrifice

When the Otsutsuki launched their final assault and the world stood on the brink of collapse, Sakura Haruno didn’t hesitate. Thinking of her family, her friends, and everything she had protected as a kunoichi, she made the decision that would seal her fate: to sacrifice herself in order to destroy the last corrupted bijū and the gods threatening to erase existence.

She died hoping peace would finally come.
But instead of oblivion, Sakura awoke in a new world—one where souls wield swords and fight against looming darkness. Leaving behind her life as a ninja, she must now start over: this time, as a shinigami, with the bijū fused to her soul and transformed into her zanpakutō—an entity as powerful as it is dangerous.

With her memories intact, her will stronger than ever, and a blade that roars with the voice of a beast who calls itself a god, Sakura must learn to live—and fight—in the Seireitei, where old wounds clash with new wars... and fate has yet to speak its final word.

After the Fourth Great Ninja War, life in the ninja world had become more stable. The Five Kages, united by a solid alliance, managed to bring prosperity to their villages. Though the scars of the war still marked many, the collective effort to avoid the mistakes of the past allowed peace to flourish.

Sakura and Tsunade, always at the forefront, continued to lead Konoha's hospital, which became the most advanced medical center of all time. Together with Shizune, they worked tirelessly to ensure that ninja medicine would never stop advancing. Additionally, Ino and Sakura opened a children's mental health clinic, a pioneering initiative that began to heal the invisible wounds of the younger generations.

Kakashi, now Hokage, enjoyed his free time with Gai and his former team, leading Konoha with wisdom and serenity. Despite his responsibilities, he always found moments to train Naruto, teaching him everything he would need to become a leader.

Naruto and Hinata, after much struggle and growth, finally married. Their love, which had witnessed many battles, blossomed into a firm commitment that reflected the new era of peace they so longed for. Sasuke and Sakura also married, solidifying their bond after everything they had been through together. Despite their difficult pasts, they found comfort and strength in each other, carrying forward a legacy of love and overcoming.

Or so it was, until the peace they had fought so hard for after the Fourth Great Ninja War began to crumble. The stability, which had been the fruit of immense sacrifices for years, faded with the arrival of a dark omen. On the horizon, the Otsutsuki emerged, bringing with them the most feared enemy of all. They were not mere invaders; their mission was clear and devastating: to absorb all the planet's life energy, tear the chakra from its living beings, and plunge the world into eternal darkness.

The sky turned red, like an open wound in the heavens. The very atmosphere vibrated with the pressure of an impending calamity. The Ōtsutsuki, with their superhuman power, began to drain the world's chakra at a dizzying rate, dragging everyone into a spiral of despair. The ninjas, who had been the guardians of peace, found themselves unable to react. Every attack, every technique, seemed to vanish in the air, powerless against the unstoppable force of these invaders.

The villages, which had been refuges of hope, were now plunged into despair. There was no force that could stop them. The combined power of the Five Kages, the last hope of humanity, proved useless against the invasion of these cosmic entities. The resistance was crumbling. They were losing.

The situation worsened with every passing moment, as the Divine Tree, resurrected by the Otsutsuki, began to absorb the chakra of all living beings. The ninjas, weakened in the midst of battle, were stripped of their energy, unable to sustain the fight. Now, Naruto and Sasuke, who had become the last line of defense for the ninja world, fought against these beings who possessed nearly infinite chakra.

Sasuke, with the Rinnegan glowing in his eye, moved swiftly across the battlefield, trying to seal one of the invaders, while Naruto, in his most advanced Sage Mode form, fought fiercely against another. But it was all insufficient. There was not enough power to counter what was coming.

The battlefield, once a place of honor, was now an apocalyptic landscape. The land, marked by steaming craters, lay in ruins, and the fallen bodies of warriors mixed with the dust rising from the ground. The cries of pain, the cracking of bones, and the metallic clash of battles echoed through the air, but Sakura could only hear the frantic beat of her own heart. Anguish and despair surrounded her as the vision of her fallen comrades and the imminent disappearance of the world submerged her in a feeling of helplessness.

If they didn't do something, this would be the end. Covered in wounds and exhausted from using her chakra to save others, Sakura knelt, feeling the blood slide down her forehead and the pain of the wounds along her body. She had fought day and night, without rest, and fatigue had finally caught up with her. With one last breath of hope, she tried for the fifth time to activate her Byakugō to heal herself and rejoin the front lines of battle. But, as before, she found herself without chakra, defeated by the fatigue that consumed her.

Sakura felt the helplessness and despair take hold of her, as intense as the ones her friends were living. In the distance, not far from the war, Sarada waited in the arms of her grandparents, unaware of the chaos that ravaged the world. Just thinking that her daughter might not have a future ahead of her made her chest tighten, and a deep pain stung her eyes, though there were no tears left to shed.

There had to be a way to end the Otsutsuki, something, anything, that could return hope. She thought of Sasuke and his research. She knew he had traveled the world, facing dangerous missions and seeking answers, especially about the origin of Kaguya, her life, and her secrets. With the memories fresh in her mind, Sakura could relive every conversation the Team 7 had had about their discoveries, from the smallest details to the deepest revelations.

But it was then, when she remembered something Tsunade had taught her, that a spark of clarity lit her mind. The lessons from her mentor about Byakugō, about absolute chakra control and the secrets passed down through generations, resonated in her head. Tsunade had always told her that the power of Byakugō didn't only reside in healing, but also in the ability to amplify and store chakra in an almost infinite way. The possibility of using that power, not just for healing, but for something much greater, began to form in her mind.

With each piece of knowledge aligning in her mind, Sakura also remembered those forbidden texts she had read when she was a student of the Fifth Hokage and assistant to Kakashi, the Sixth Hokage. Ancient texts, guarded secrets, written about forgotten techniques and immense sacrifices. Everything she had learned, in one way or another, seemed to be converging toward a single solution.

And in the midst of the adrenaline and despair, a crazy but possible idea emerged. It wouldn't be easy, but if there was any chance to stop the Ōtsutsuki, this was the only one. Suddenly, all she had studied, learned, and practiced seemed to have a greater purpose. It was time to push her limits, at the risk of everything.

If she was right, this would be her end. Her mind filled with thoughts of Sarada, Team 7, Ino, Tsunade, her parents, and all the people with whom she had lived and formed bonds. Each face that had been part of her life faded before her, as if fate was sealed.

"Tsunade-sama" Sakura said, calling the attention of the Hokage, who was struggling to stay focused while keeping Katsuyu on the battlefield—. "Please make sure Kakashi doesn't escape his responsibilities. He needs to do the paperwork. Naruto has Hinata, but still, whenever he can, he avoids vegetables. Make him eat, even if he has Kurama, he needs to take care of his health. Sai and Ino have each other, so they'll be fine. Sasuke..." Sakura hesitated for a moment "Sasuke is so distant, always saying that everything is fine, but it's not. He insists on solving everything alone. Make him drag Naruto to accompany him."

Tsunade's face tightened upon hearing words that, though out of place in the middle of battle, felt more urgent than ever. Sakura was speaking of things that, at this moment, didn't seem to make sense amid the chaos, but Tsunade knew it was the truth, the concern of someone who, despite the danger they were facing, still thought of their loved ones.

"And tell Sarada that I will always and forever love her, that she is my everything" Sakura said, her voice trembling, before turning and running toward the battlefield.

Tsunade's face went pale as she understood what Sakura was doing. A chill ran down her spine, and in a frantic impulse, she tried to stop her, shouting her name in desperation. But it was too late. Sakura had already disappeared into the shadows of the chaos toward the front lines of battle.

With her lungs burning from the effort, Sakura ran with determination, dodging soldiers, jumping between craters and rocks flying from the enemy's attacks. Every breath hurt, but she couldn't stop. Not far away, she found her first target: an Ōtsutsuki, who was being fought by Gaara, Lee, Temari, and others. The battle had already taken a dangerous turn, and in a moment of carelessness caused by exhaustion, Gaara couldn't dodge an attack from the Ōtsutsuki. In the blink of an eye, the enemy had the upper hand, about to steal his chakra.

Before Temari, Lee, or anyone could react, Sakura made a decisive leap. With a precise movement, she positioned herself above the Ōtsutsuki, her fist raised toward the sky. As she fell, she landed a brutal blow, knocking the Ōtsutsuki away from Gaara with the force of her impact.

"Sakura, I thought it would take you longer to join the fun" Temari said, deeply grateful but also worried. She knew Sakura had withdrawn from the front lines for a reason: the use of her Byakugō had already drained almost all of her chakra again.

"What can I say? I can't stay still" Sakura replied with a smile that quickly faded, replaced by an unyielding seriousness. "Please, take care of everyone. This time, I'll handle it."

Before Temari could ask for an explanation, Sakura had already charged toward the Ōtsutsuki, who was beginning to rise. With a fierce expression on her face, she extended her hand toward him. With the little chakra she had left, she activated the Byakugō, but instead of tapping into her energy reserves, she did the opposite. As if performing a water manipulation jutsu to extract poison from a patient, she began to rapidly extract the Ōtsutsuki's chakra, directing it toward her seal. The speed with which she absorbed the enemy's energy was incredible, and as she did, she felt the Byakugō begin to house foreign chakra.

The sensation of the foreign chakra, filled with an unknown vitality, started to mix with her own, overwhelming Sakura with a tingling, painful feeling and an intense energy she never imagined experiencing at the same time. It was as if her body were being torn apart from the inside while filling with an immense force. The Ōtsutsuki, aware of the disadvantage, tried to resist. With one hand, he grabbed her by the neck, squeezing tightly. But Sakura, determined not to give in, absorbed the chakra at a dizzying speed, her mind focused on one thing: not letting them win.

She thought of her family, her friends, her daughter... Sarada. That image gave her the determination to not give up, to not let the world fall into darkness.

Then something incredible happened. The Ōtsutsuki, in front of her, began to lose his strength at an alarming rate. Before the astonished eyes of everyone present, the man aged at an unbelievable speed. His skin wrinkled, his body shrank, and like fruit exposed to the sun, he began to dry out. In a matter of seconds, what had once been a formidable being turned into a crumbling figure. Suddenly, all that was left were a sack of bones that, shortly after, turned to dust, disintegrating completely.

Sakura had defeated an Ōtsutsuki. A monumental achievement, but one she could hardly process. Gaara, Temari, Lee, and the others who witnessed the scene stood frozen, completely in shock at what they had just seen.

Meanwhile, Sakura, exhausted and breathless, bent forward, her hands trembling slightly as she tried to process everything she had done. The power of the chakra that had concentrated in her Byakugō was immense, and her body was beginning to give in to the overload. But still, something inside her kept fighting to stay on her feet.

This was just the first of the five Ōtsutsuki, and ahead, the God Tree continued its battle against Naruto and Sasuke.

"Sakura?" Lee asked, concerned. He had never witnessed a skill like Sakura's before, and while he trusted his own strength through taijutsu, given his near-zero chakra ability, he felt what she had just done might be dangerous.

Like him, the others shared the same concern.

"I'm sorry, I need to help the others," Sakura said without hesitation before turning and running toward the front of the battle.

"Lee, stop her!" Gaara ordered immediately, realizing the magnitude of the danger Sakura was exposing herself to.

Lee didn’t hesitate for a second. Without thinking, he shot toward her, calling out her name. But Sakura, seeing him coming after her with speed, immediately understood his intention: to stop her. She knew that if they succeeded, there was a chance everything would be lost. So, she focused chakra into her feet, hoping to gain speed. But what happened was even more impressive: in one step, the distance between her and Lee expanded drastically, so much so that she herself let out a shout, surprised by the vitality of the chakra absorbed from the Ōtsutsuki, which now filled her body with incomparable energy.

It was at that moment when she thought clearly: Lee wouldn’t give up and would follow her wherever necessary. Even if he had to open a chakra door to stop her, he would do it. However, she couldn’t let that happen. So, with a twist of speed that was barely perceptible, Sakura appeared in front of Lee in the blink of an eye.

"I'm sorry, Lee... I know you'll forgive me," Sakura murmured before concentrating all her chakra into her hand and delivering a punch with such force that it sent him flying backward. With the same speed, she directed him toward where Gaara, Temari, and the others were, so they could protect him if the Ōtsutsuki attacked. She knew Lee wouldn’t be able to move on his own unless Tsunade or Shizune arrived to heal him.

Once she stopped Lee, Sakura didn’t waste a second more. Without thinking, she launched herself back toward the Ōtsutsuki. Just like the first one, she absorbed his chakra with inhuman speed, watching as the enemy disintegrated into dust, leaving everyone present astonished at the magnitude of her power.

Meanwhile, Sakura felt an immense energy building up inside her, filling every fiber of her being. The vitality of the foreign chakra surrounded her, but it also brought with it unbearable pain. With each enemy defeated, her body grew weaker, but she couldn’t stop. When she reached the last Ōtsutsuki, the sensation was overwhelming: the power was so great that it felt as if her body were being dragged by a cart pulled by a thousand wild horses.

Suddenly, her vision began to blur. Each blink became more difficult, and the feeling of exhaustion was like a dark cloud threatening to crush her. However, despite everything, her determination remained firm. She couldn’t stop now. Not when everything was at stake.

Now, only the God Tree remained. Sakura ran, activating her Byakugō once again. The energy she had felt earlier tripled, flooding her body with overwhelming vitality, as her muscles tore from the torrent of power. The wounds on her body healed at a dizzying speed, as fast as Kurama’s chakra, leaving only her tattered clothes from the battles.

She had to kill a god.

Sakura ran towards the front, where Naruto and Sasuke were fighting, taking deep breaths. Suddenly, both the God Tree and Naruto and Sasuke stopped when they felt an immense energy.

"Sakura! What the hell are you doing?!" Naruto shouted, seeing her surrounded by a vortex of energy.

Sasuke turned, his eyes widening with a mix of understanding and horror.

But it was already too late. Sakura quickly passed them, running towards the God Tree. With a brutal punch, she sent it flying, making it crash to the ground with such force that it caused a tremor in the area. Sakura positioned herself over the God Tree, and with both hands, she touched its massive body, beginning to absorb its energy.

Naruto and Sasuke tried to stop her, but the tree’s branches began to move wildly, blocking their way. Even though Sasuke summoned his Susano'o and Naruto released Kurama's power, nothing could stop the violence of the branches. Meanwhile, Sakura stood firm, holding on to the God Tree, continuing to absorb its chakra, uncaring of the repeated blows from the branches against her back. Though the injuries hit her, her body healed rapidly.

The God’s chakra was scorching, like a pot about to boil. The energy burned inside her, and her vision began to blur as blood poured from her nose due to the monstrous chakra she was absorbing. But still, she didn’t stop.

At this rate, she would pass out before finishing it.

"Shanarooooo!" she yelled, and in that instant, the black lines on her body glowed a bright red as she absorbed all the chakra at once.

She felt her skin burn, her body tearing from the inside, but she didn’t stop. The dark, corrupt energy twisted, trying to escape, but Sakura contained it, absorbing it, taking every fragment of that overflowing power. She felt her consciousness crumble, as if her life itself was fading in the whirlpool of uncontrolled chakra. Still, she pressed on.

Suddenly, everything around her changed completely. She found herself in an entirely black space, suspended as though floating in a gravity-less void. She felt no pain, no sensation, no smell; the absolute silence enveloped her.

She tried to look around, an inexplicable fear seized her, fearing that maybe she had died. The uncertainty of whether she had defeated the God Tree haunted her, until she saw a light not far away. It was a shimmering white light that irresistibly pulled her in. As she floated toward it, the small light transformed into a flame that emitted a scorching warmth, but at the same time, a welcoming warmth, a warmth Sakura felt she should embrace. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around it, and the moment she did, the heat began to suffocate her. She felt like she was dying, as the flame merged with her being. She tried to scream, but the words got stuck in her throat, as she became one with that flame.

Suddenly, the space transformed again, returning to the chaos of war. Sakura screamed in pain, and she heard the cries of Naruto and Sasuke getting closer. It was then that the energy she had absorbed in the other plane, the one she had received from the God Tree, released suddenly within her.

A blinding flash enveloped the battlefield. And then, silence.

Sakura felt her life slipping away. Before closing her eyes for the last time, she saw Naruto and Sasuke, their eyes filled with tears, shouting at her in desperation.

"I love you," she managed to say, barely a hoarse whisper escaping her lips. She wanted them to know how she felt, before her eyes closed forever.

And that’s how the war that almost destroyed the world ended, thanks to Sakura.

Or so she thought, when suddenly, Sakura's emerald eyes opened wide, as she took a deep breath urgently. Her mind felt dull, her body numb, but when she looked toward the ceiling, she recognized the familiarity of the hospital.

"Am I alive?" she wondered, doubtful. Slowly, she tried to sit up, feeling the hard floor on her back. Then, she heard a jingling sound coming from her chest, and when she looked down, she saw, confused, a chain attached to her chest.

"What is this?" she asked quietly.

Following the path of the chain with her eyes, she even got up upon noticing there was a hospital bed nearby. The last thing she remembered was the war, so she didn’t understand why she was on the floor. Until, letting out a gasp, she looked toward the bed, where the path of the chain continued.

There, on the bed, was herself, asleep, connected to a respirator.

"What does this mean?" she murmured, completely bewildered.
