I would be proud of you

The cold night breeze chilled Temari to the core. But she didn't have time for cover-ups. As soon as she heard the news of Jiraiya's death, she immediately embarked on a mission to find her boyfriend of years, Naruto. She had been searching almost all day, and as soon as the sun began to set, she knew she had to hurry. Knowing Naruto, he would suppress his feelings about his sensei's death and try not to burden the people around him with them. Sometimes she hated it when he did that.

At one point, while walking through some less-busy streets of the leaf village, she turned a corner and saw Iruka sensei and Naruto sitting on a park bench, glowing in the evening light. A sigh of relief came over her as she quickened her pace. As Temari approached the park bench, Iruka saw her coming and stopped. Once he was close enough, he could hear the end of their conversation.

"I wouldn't praise you if I saw you depressed," Iruka told Naruto before walking over to Temari, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. She gave him a soft smile, nodding as he raised his hand and walked away. Temari quickly moved over to the park bench to sit on Naruto's left side.

Naruto moved his head to look at her as he sat down. Shifting his position from leaning forward to leaning back against the bench, Temari took his right hand and placed it on his knee, covering it with her palms. As if trying to warm him up.

"He won't see me become Hokage, Temari-chan." Naruto says, barely moving his lips. She can only manage a sigh, leaning back with him, their shoulders bumping together.

"I know."

"You won't see me bring Sasuke back."

"I know." He says, resting his head on her shoulder, still holding her hand in his.

"He... really liked you, Temari-chan." Temari's jade eyes move to his blue ones as she says that. Of course, she always knew that Jiraiya liked you, he was the one who got Naruto and her to interact during the chunin exams 3 years ago in the first place. After a moment of silence, Temari notices tears building up in her eyes, but she quickly blinks them away and a smile forms on her face.

"He said I should marry you." Naruto said softly, his smile faltering for a moment. Temari looked at him in surprise, a slight blush on her face, her breath catching in her throat.

"It was after we had finished one of our dates and Ero-sennin had been watching from the shadows-" Temari lets out a small laugh at the last statement.

"Oh, so he was the guy in the corner." She says, trying to stifle her laughter by remembering the gloomy-looking figure at the other end of the restaurant who kept looking over his menu at the two of them. Naruto laughs, sounding hoarse, as if he hasn't laughed all day. She knew he hadn't.

"Yeah, that was him... After I walked you to your temporary home here in Konoha, he came out of nowhere and started talking about how perfect you were to me... And I remember saying something about how it was only our third date and... and then he said that I should marry you." Temari stared at him, her blonde hair swaying slightly in the breeze. He stared back at you.

"I bet he's really proud of you, Naruto." Temari mentions with a fond smile as she looks up at the stars.

"Hopefully."
