I can't even imagine a world without you 2/2
"Hey." Temari pulled her husband's attention away from their sleeping son and brought it to her.
"Yes?" Naruto turned to her, but didn't let go of his sleeping four-year-old son.
"It's been ten years and I still love you." Temari smiled at him.
"Why wouldn't you still want Tousan?" A voice came from the entrance to her bedroom.
Temari turned around to see her six-year-old daughter entering the room. She put a finger to her lips and pointed at the six-year-old boy still sleeping on Naruto's lap.
"What are you still doing awake, Karura-chan?" Temari asked.
"I couldn't sleep." Karura answered quickly, sandy-blond hair like her mother but with her father's blue eyes. "What's this about not wanting tousan in ten years?"
Temari was about to answer, but another voice from the doorway spoke first.
"Wait, who doesn't love Tousan?" asked the other six-year-old boy with bright blond hair and green eyes like his mother.
"Nawaki-kun, what's your excuse for being awake?" Naruto questioned amusedly.
"Karura isn't quiet when she's walking or opening doors." Nawaki replied, approaching the bed, and Karura let out an offended gasp.
"I'm silent!" Karura protested.
"No, you're not," Nawaki disagreed.
"Yes, I am!"
"No, you're not!"
"You both need to calm down before we wake Takeru," another voice said from the doorway. Temari and Naruto's eight-year-old son joined them in his parents' bedroom. "I could hear you from my room."
"Malakhi, your room is across the hall," Karura declared.
"Yeah, and I'm surprised you didn't wake Takeru with all that noise," she retorted, pointing at her still-sleeping little brother.
"Is this just a party in the parents' room now?" Temari asked her children. "Malakhi-chan, what's your excuse for being awake?"
"I usually don't go to sleep until midnight. It's only eleven," Malakhi replied, heading over to her parents' bed like her younger siblings.
"That's not a good sleeping habit for an eight-year-old princess," Naruto commented.
"Hey, it's okay, besides Uncle Gaara and Aunt Matsuri are always talking about how late they used to stay up when they were younger."
"It was back when we were teenagers. We didn't even turn eight yet," Temari said. "You should all be sleeping right now."
"I'm not going to bed until you answer my question." Karura crossed her arms and glared at them defiantly.
"I won't go to bed until Karura goes to bed," Nawaki added.
“And I’m not going to bed until the twins do,” Malakhi said.
"Karura-chan, what was your question?" Naruto asked, thanking his youngest son for being able to sleep through all that noise. He didn't know if he would have been able to handle a grumpy four-year-old.
"Why did kaachan say he still loves you even though it's been ten years?" Karura repeated.
Now, both Malakhi and Nawaki were curious as to why that would be a question. Of course kaachan would love tousan.
“Well, ten years ago your tousan and I were talking. Your tousan told me that in ten years, she wouldn't love him because she'd be so tired of him. I told her that, of course, she would still love him, and that's exactly what I told her ten minutes ago. What someone who should be asleep heard.” Temari gave a pointed look to Karura, who was smiling shyly.
“Now that we've answered your question, you need to go to bed, Karura-chan. All of you do,” Naruto reminded.
"Aw, do we have to do this?" Karura groaned.
"Yes, you have to. You all need to sleep, you're lucky you don't have school tomorrow or else you'd be in real trouble for staying up so late," Temari said sternly.
"But can you guys stand up?" Malakhi narrowed his eyes, tilting his head to the side in curiosity. Temari will always blame Naruto for teaching her how to do that.
"We spent most of our waking hours trying to comfort your little brother and get him back to sleep. He had a nightmare, and as you can see, he won't let go of your tousan."
“I think that’s a perfectly justified reason for staying awake. Now, come on, Karura, let’s go back to sleep.” Nawaki grabbed her twin sister’s arm and began dragging her back to her room.
"Hai." As always, Karura didn't fight Nawaki, he would forever be her greatest weakness, as she once said.
Once the twins were in their room, Malakhi started heading toward her room. “Goodnight, kaachan, goodnight, tousan! See you in the morning.” And she left.
"Our sochis." Temari sighed softly as she leaned into Naruto's side, careful not to do anything that might wake her son.
"That we love very much." Naruto added as he placed a soft kiss on his sleeping son's forehead.
"I wouldn't have them any other way." Temari smiled as she watched her son smile in his sleep.
"Do you think he can go sleep in his room or do you want him to sleep with us?" Naruto asked his wife.
"You can sleep with us, just in case you have another nightmare," Temari replied.
"You just want him to cuddle with you," Naruto stated.
"That too." Temari didn't even bother denying it. She wanted to enjoy all the hugs she could get from her children before they were 'too old' to hug.
A movement from her son brought her attention back, and Temari immediately went to check that he wasn't waking up from another nightmare.
"Tousan?" Takeru asked in a low voice.
"Hai, Takeru-kun?" Naruto replied immediately.
"You're not leaving, are you?" Takeru whispered.
"No never."
"But in my nightmare-"
“Hey, that's what it was, a nightmare. I'll never leave you.”
Takeru was silent for a few moments, considering what to say next. For a four-year-old, he was very careful with his words. Probably because he saw how many misunderstandings there were in the family when it came to communication and wanted to avoid them.
He finally settled on the words: "I can't even imagine a world without you."
Naruto continued trying to comfort and reassure Takeru, the only redhead like his grandmother and uncle with his mother's green eyes, while Temari went through her memories trying to figure out where she had heard that before.
He soon tuned back into the conversation and helped Naruto comfort Takeru, assuring Takeru that Naruto was too stubborn to leave them soon.
After another hour, Takeru finally fell asleep. He lay between Temari and Naruto as they both tried to fall asleep as well. Just on the verge of falling asleep, Temari remembered.
"Oh, that's why it sounded so familiar," she whispered aloud.
"Why did that sound so familiar?" Naruto asked tiredly.
"I'm pretty sure Takeru-kun summoned me without knowing it," Temari replied.
"Oh, okay." Naruto replied before falling back asleep.
Temari shook her head before placing a kiss on the heads of her husband and youngest son. Then she finally fell asleep.
