Silence. Deafening silence.

The silent screams of lost souls, made apart through time and space and memory.

The silent tear of world, layer and meaning as it mixes and spreads itself to oblivion across the cosmos.

And the silent breath, drawn by four and held by one, mind and matter finally becoming whole once more.

They all hear nothing.

She hears everything.

Then she wakes up.

My head hurts. Come to think of it, my entire body kinda hurts. Did I get up too fast? No, I just woke up. I’m in bed. Did I sleep in a weird position or something?  UUUGgghhghh

I open my eyes, roll my aching husk over to the right, peer into the inky blackness, and extend a tired arm to Allison. Hopefully she’s awake. If she is, I –

wait.

Where’s Alli?

OW.

I sit up, and immediately feel my head slam into something cold, metallic, and completely invisible in the dark. Giving the lightswitch an angry high-five and twisting around to avoid hitting the object again, I blink out the brightness as I stare at the bizarre contraption in front of me.

It’s, like, a headset? Looks kinda like a Value Andex, but more… sci-fi?

The object is lined with buttons, switches, lights, wires, the absolute works. It’s held up by a myriad of different cables, all of which are connected to seemingly random points along my bedroom ceiling.

What on earth is this thing?

Examining the machinery more closely, I finally find something somewhat understandable. A word, laser-engraved along a small part of the side of the headset.

Duskbreaker. What is a Duskbreaker? Sounds like a bad racing game.

wait

oh no.

Memories. Light. Darkness. A thousand truths blending into one. My head becomes a whirlpool, thoughts and feelings crashing into the sides of my skull, a flood, a torrent as-

Oh my god.

ALLISON!
