Stomach bug
Sevika’s schedule returned to normal, home at 6 most nights and occasionally having an overnight for certain shipments. You were just happy she was home in time to eat dinner with you and then fall asleep in her arms and her in your arms.
One night on Sevika’s day off you weren’t feeling the best. She took care of you, making you soup you couldn’t exactly keep down and some hot tea to help with the nausea. Of course, she was trying her best, but it wasn’t helping much.
You deal with it though, it seemed to come in waves so you could get some stuff done in between bouts of nausea and the fatigue that came with it.
“I still think you should go to a clinic. It’s been a week.” Sevika rubbed the small of your back as another wave of nausea hit you. You felt like you practically lived by the toilet at this point.
“I’m fine, Sevi. Just a stomach bug. I don’t want the clinic wasting resources on something so trivial.” You leaned into her as your stomach settled, rubbing it slightly to ease the pain. Sevika scoffs, her hand moving up your back and moving strands of hair away from your face.
You hum slightly, a smile playing on your lips. You loved that she worried so much, but you hated when she stressed herself out like this. She kisses your temple, a cold rag meets your forehead as she pulls away.
“If this goes on for another week, I’m dragging you to a clinic.” She mumbles at you, you hum in response. Your eyes fluttered shut to just enjoy her heat against your back. Eventually, your back starts to hurt from sitting on the floor, so you both move to the bedroom to lie down.
Sevika takes her spot behind you, curling her legs so her thighs are against yours. She sneaks her flesh hand up your shirt and cups your breast. You inhale sharply, wincing away from her hand. Sevika immediately moves her hand away, her face filled with concern.
“Are you okay? Sorry, I didn’t mean to… Did I hurt you?” You heard the confusion in her voice, and you felt it yourself. Why the hell did that hurt??
“I’m okay,” you exhale slightly, “just a little tender I guess? Might be getting my period soon.” You sigh again, just the thought of going through a stomach bug on your period sounds horrible.
Sevika hums, her hand going to settle on your stomach instead, rubbing small circles with her thumb. “I’ll pick up the supplies tomorrow then. If we’re in this house with no Midol again, I’m sleeping in the last drop.” She chuckled slightly.
You scoff, rolling your eyes with a smile. “You aren’t much better. You are SO grumpy on your period.” You hear her huff behind you. You turn your head, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
You smile back, a sly grin as you turn over to face her. She rolls her eyes, her hand coming up to cup your face. “Go to sleep, before I knock you out.”
You gape at her as she flashes a grin at you, her tooth gap peeking out. “You would never hit me!” You giggle out, head lying down fully on the pillow.
She chuckles, “Never said anything about hitting, love. Now go to sleep. You need rest, and I’m tired as fuck.”
You hum at her, eyes fluttering shut. You mumble that you love her, you feel her kiss your forehead and whisper to you.
“I love you too.”
A week came and went. You had managed to get your nausea under control, but Sevika still insisted you go to the clinic. So, you were sitting in the waiting room filling out your symptoms. The clinic was small, with a couple of chairs along each wall. The walls were beige, some wallpaper peeling at the borders.
A small radio played a song with a low beat. Something calming you noted as you check off your symptoms. You hummed slightly, your foot bouncing slightly to the beat. You sign the forms on the bottom, initialed by a disclaimer, and then give the receptionist your clipboard.
She hums, flashing you a small smile. “Go ahead and take a seat, hun. They’ll call you in a bit.”
You nod your head, sitting back down in your original chair. Luckily the wait wasn’t long. Another nurse called your name within a couple of minutes. She glances at your clipboard as she leads you into a room. She hums, writing a couple of things down.
“Alrighty, just gonna run a few minor tests. Blood work shouldn’t be necessary today. Just need you to pee in the cup.” She smiles, holding up a small plastic cup with a lid and an alcohol wipe.
You shrug your shoulders, taking the cup from her hand and letting her guide you to a bathroom. You do your business and clean the cup off with the provided wipe. Washing your hands twice.
You give the nurse the small cup, and she leads you back to your exam room. “A doctor will be in to speak with you soon, sit tight.”
You smile, rubbing your arms slightly. This was always the worst part. The waiting. You sigh, wishing Sevika could’ve come with you to keep you company. But she had work. You glance around the room. The same beige walls surrounded you and a single fluorescent light buzzed above you.
After what feels like forever, a knock at your door causes you to jump slightly. The doctor opens it, flashing a small smile. He has your clipboard in hand as he sits on the stool and scoots towards you.
“So, you’ve got some pretty common symptoms that line with pregnancy here, but you marked that there’s no possible chance of pregnancy. Why’s that?” He lays the clipboard in his lap.
You sputter slightly, a blush creeping up your cheeks in embarrassment. “Because I’m married to a woman. I don’t sleep with anyone but her. And she doesn’t have the equipment required to get me pregnant?”
The doctor hums, frowning slightly. “Well… Something isn’t adding up,” he sighs slightly, hand running through his hair, “because you tested positive for pregnancy.”
You walk out of the clinic, papers and pamphlets in hand. You were panicking, to say the least. How the fuck could you be pregnant?! There was no possible explanation. And what will Sevika think?? You knew you were loyal to only her, but obviously, she isn’t going to think that.
You make the walk to your apartment. Your mind reeling from all the possible scenarios that could play out. How in the hell were you going to tell her? What would you tell her? All of the scenarios are going from bad to worse and by the time you were in your apartment, it felt like you couldn’t breathe.
You slammed the door shut behind you, your back against the solid wood. Trying to catch your breath and the tears started to form. Your eyes stung, tears rolling down your cheeks as you sobbed. You sink to the floor, knees to your chest.
“Baby? Are you home?” Sevika’s voice called from the bedroom. You inhale sharply, heart beating a mile a minute as you quickly shove the papers in your pocket. You hear her walking out into the living room. You quickly wipe your tears away, praying to the Gods she doesn’t notice.
“Hey! Hey… Are you okay? What happened?” Her voice is laced with concern as she cups your cheek. Because, of course, she noticed. She was too loving and too caring not to. Her eyebrows furrow, checking you for any injuries or signs of concern.
You hiccup slightly, more tears threatening to spill over. “I’m fi.. I’m fine. Just, very unexpected news.” You try to smile at her. You try to do something to ease her worry. But it seems that it only makes things worse.
“What? What do you mean?” Her eyebrows furrow deeper, worry lines creasing as she stares at you.
You sigh, eyes looking down at her feet. You hear her sigh, her warm breath fanning over your head. She pulls her hand away from your face, pulling you into her chest in a hug. She nuzzles gently into your hair, “Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out together. Okay?”
You nod, eyes brimming with tears again as you wrap your arms around her waist. She lets you go, hands trailing down your back then resting on your hips. A slight crumple sound as her hands settled.
Your eyes widen, her hand drifting down to the almost forgotten papers in your pocket. You quickly turn away, wiping the tears from your eyes. You hear her sigh, she lets go of your hand.
“I’m sorry, I just… Please let me help you. I thought we were in this together, for better or for worse.” Your wife whispered, emotions affecting her as much as they are you. You shudder, turning back towards her.
You watch as she quickly wipes a tear away. The last thing you ever wanted to do was hurt her. Yet, here you are, about to destroy the lives you’ve built together. And you don’t even know how it happened.
The only thing different you two have done was the new….
“The HEXSTRAP,” you gasp, a hand flying to your forehead. “Are there any side effects to it?? Where’s the box?!” You run to the bedroom, opening up the bottom drawer of your dresser.
You open the box, Sevika stands behind you watching as you yank the piece of paper out from under the styrofoam fitting.
“Babe? I really would like an explanation here. That would be great.” You can hear the exasperation in her tone, but you honestly don’t care in that moment. You’re too busy reading the warnings.
“Oh my god. This has happened before! Babe! Your fake magic dick got me fucking PREGNANT!” You shake the paper at your wife, finger-pointing at the bright red warning. Sevika gapes at you, sinking to her knees and grabbing your shoulders.
“You… You’re pregnant? And it was the hexstrap that did it?”
