25 Sprouts and Droughts

Ministry of Magic Law Enforcement Department

Minerva McGonagall was deep in paperwork, preparing numerous scrolls for the Wizengamot. She resented that she was being used as a scribe and general dogsbody due to staff shortages. She had groused about it - but it went unnoticed. She knew that many of her colleagues were off skiving, doing shopping for the upcoming Yule Celebrations. She had too much work to do. She had not realised that it was past her finishing time and stretched before tidying up her desk, preparing to leave.

Then much to her annoyance a grey haired toad of a woman sidled up to her and promptly dumped a large pile of parchments down onto her desk with a thud.

"These need preparing and sorting into order for Court Room One and Two for tomorrow. Do it before you leave dear.". The woman’s voice was sickly sweet but with a nasty undertone as she turned away on her garishly pink heels and left.

Minerva was so enraged she could hardly speak. Before she could manage to spit out her reply, the toad of a woman had left. She was sure the woman had smirked at her. Was this deliberate?

She felt drained and utterly exhausted as she wearily completed the task and sent the scrolls off to their correct destination. She had enchanted them with a locking charm to stay together in each bundle as they were sent on their way to the various court rooms.

That night she cried herself to sleep. This was not the role she had envisaged when beginning her work with the Ministry. So much for Law Enforcement, it had not met her expectations at all. She was miserable, useless and worst of all unloved. She felt lonely here as many of her old friends had got work in other departments of the Ministry and of course they had new friends now - unlike her.
