hopes & dreams
Rio brought over tea to the couch, handing Agatha one of the mugs before sitting down. “Find anything?”
Agatha sighed. “Not yet. As much as I hate her, I have to respect how well she coded these.”
“Why is this so important to you anyway?”
“‘Cause it’s your dream.”
“I have other dreams, you know.”
Agatha put the book down. “Like what?”
“I don’t know, just… Read a book, for starters. Live in this cottage forever. With you, of course. Just… not feel hated, I guess.”
“Yeah, I feel that.”
“Do you have any dreams?”
Agatha shrugged. “I want to fix my mom’s mistakes. She was respected and powerful, but she used it to hurt the ones who were different. She fucked me up pretty bad, so I wanna fix that too.”
Rio tilted her head. “You want kids?”
“Yeah, but it’s probably a bad call.” Agatha leaned back on the couch.
“Why?”
“‘Cause I wouldn’t be good at it. I’d probably screw up almost as bad as her.”
“Don’t say that.” Rio took her hands. “You’d make an amazing mom.”
“You’re just saying that. We both know I wouldn’t.”
“You definitely would.”
“How do you know?”
“I watch you, Agatha. I’ve been watching you for quite some time. I haven’t seen anything to make me think you wouldn’t be great at it.”
Agatha placed her head on Rio’s shoulder. “Thanks.”
Rio grew a gardenia, placing it behind Agatha’s ear. “You still haven’t answered my question.”
Agatha sighed. “I keep screwing our dates up. The picnic–”
“Wasn’t your fault.”
“Then the village–”
“Not even close to your fault.”
“Then in the cabin–”
“They shot at you. How are you the one at fault?”
“Yeah, but to you, nothing’s my fault.”
“‘Cause it isn’t.”
“I pissed them off. It’s on me.”
“Nope.”
“B–”
“No.”
Agatha sighed. “You’re too defensive of me.”
Rio shrugged. “I’d say not defensive enough.”
Agatha smiled. “Thanks.”
Rio smiled back. “Of course, my love.”
Agatha paused, lifting her head. “Holy shit.”
“What?”
She got up, grabbing her coat. “I’m so dumb! We can make your dream come true before we find the spell!”
Rio got up. “What?”
“Well, partially, of course, but still– Wait here, I’ll be right back.”
“What–”
Agatha was already gone.
