“Hey,” Rio joined Agatha in the kitchen, running her fingers through Agatha’s hair from behind.
“Mornin’” Agatha smiled and put down the ladle before turning around so their faces were barely apart. “How was the rest of your night?”
“You mean after—“
“Yeah.”
“It was okay. No more nightmares.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“And what did you think of… you know?”
“It was perfect.”
“Even the part with the—“
“Oh, especially that, I loved that.”
“Me too.” Agatha kissed her again. “Your smile’s reaching your eyes again.”
Rio paused. “I don’t know what that means.”
“It means it’s not fake anymore. I see the carnations have also stopped.”
“You are pretty good at…” Rio grew a peonie and put it behind Agatha’s ear. “…cheering people up.”
“You think?” Agatha put her arms around Rio’s neck.
“Yeah.”
Their lips met again.
Rio pulled away slightly, their skin brushing against each other. “You… you actually want to do this, right? It isn’t just because I’m Death.”
“Of course, not. Not even an immortal being as gorgeous as you can force me to sleep with someone I don’t love. I have standards.”
“You’re sure? Because I don’t want you to feel pressured—“
“I love you because you’re you. You’re Rio. You being Death doesn’t change that in any way whatsoever.”
A soft smile grew on Rio’s face before she kissed Agatha again. “I love you, too.”
“Maybe we could go to the village today,” Agatha suggested.
“Absolutely not. Remember the last time we went to the village?”
“Well, yeah, but we can't live in fear. Plus, it all worked out, didn't it?”
Rio sighed. “I mean, I guess, but– I don't want you to get hurt again.”
“I know, but we have my mom's spellbook now. There are like a million protection spells in there.”
“How do we even know if they work?”
Agatha smirked. “I was hoping you would ask that.”
