Chapter 1

Then, of course, I’ll let you break my heart again..

Hinata stumbled on her own feet, she had tried so hard to control herself but she failed to do so. Training with her father, Hiashi Hyuga.. wasn’t always easy. It was never easy actually, after awakening her byakugan she was put into the most intense training. It was to be expected of course, she is the heiress of the Hyuga clan after all.

“Hinata.” Her father called out to her, hinata cleared her throat before answering to her father, “Yes, Father?” She was still panting, trying to catch her breath. Hiashi took her wrist and pulled her up, helping her stand on her feet again. Hinata’s legs were still wobbly but she had somehow managed to keep herself balanced.

“You will be training.. with Sasuke Uchiha. You will be training together starting tomorrow.” Hinata looked at her father with confusion, tilting her head to the side. Hiashi sighed and ruffled her hair, “He is the son of Mikoto Uchiha, your mothers friend.” That rang a bell for Hinata. Hinata was well aware that her mother is friends with a certain Uchiha, and that the Uchiha she was friends with had two sons of her own. One that was much closer to Hinata’s age.

“I understand, father.” She bowed to her father and turned her heel to leave the training room. But Hiashi then called out to her, “You will be starting the academy in a few months, Hinata.” Hinata stopped her feet, hearing out her father. “You are the heiress of the Hyuga clan, I expect only the best from you. That is why you will be training with the Uchiha. He has talent.. talent that you should be encouraged by.”

Hinata knew exactly what her father was getting at. Hinata is the heiress of the clan but lacks the talent. She curled up her fist into a ball by her sides, then released it. “I’ll do my best, father.” Hinata said as she took her leave.

As soon as she closed those doors, she let her shoulders drop, clenching her hand to her shirt. Too many thoughts were running in her mind that she didn’t notice footsteps coming towards her.

“Don’t let your father bring you down so much Hinata.”

Hinata looked up and looked up to her mother, then her eyes traced down to her arms. She was holding her baby sister, Hanabi. “Mama!” Hinata said with such joy in her tone. Hinata’s mother laughed lightly as she crouched down to Hinata, letting her show her baby sister. “Don’t be so worried about the boy, from what I’ve seen.. he seems like a nice boy.” Hinata could only hope that this Sasuke Uchiha was what her mother said.

As the heiress of the clan, she never went out much. So she’s never ever officially met Itachi Uchiha and Sasuke Uchiha. She’s seen them around the house but she was quickly dragged away and put to training.

“I hope so.”

———

The silence was heavy while walking to the newly built training grounds between Hinata and Hiashi, it was not an uncomfortable silence.

The Hyuga and Uchiha came together and built this new training ground, just for Sasuke Uchiha and Hinata Hyuga. It was of course a request from Hiashi Hyuga, he wanted only the best for his daughter.

“Hinata,” Hiashi called out to her, gaining her attention. Hinata turned her head as she continued to walk alongside with her father, “Y-Yes? Father.” She said as she played with her fingers, an action she does when her father speaks directly to her.

“Do not go soft on this boy, He is an Uchiha. He can handle it.” Hinata gulped, nodding her head before facing forward. “This is an order, do you understand? Do not hold back.”

Hinata swallowed hard and gave a nod.

Finally the father and daughter duo made it to the training grounds, they made sure to leave early. It wasn’t exactly the Hyuga way to be late.

Hinata looked around the surroundings of the training grounds, she noticed that the area was big right away, there were tall wooden tree stumps to the side, most likely for her own training. She heard the sound of water running downstream, so she turned to her father for approval to check it out. He nodded and she smiled at him, running to the sound of water.

It was a beautiful scene really, the water was crystal clear, rocks that could help her go to the other side of the river. She noticed there was a waterfall to her right, she could definitely use this for her own purposes.

As she was daydreaming of what she would do around this area, her father called out to her, quickly gaining her attention. She made her way back to her father and found two people waiting for her.

She quickly went to Hiashi’s side, bowing down to the people in front of her, “Hinata, This is Fugaku Uchiha, say hello would you?” Hinata nodded, greeting the older man in front of her.

“I-I’m pleased to meet you.. U-Uchiha-San.” Fugaku nodded his head at Hinata and hummed , “Likewise.”

“This is my son, Sasuke. You’ll be training with him starting today.” Hinata looked down to her side and found Sasuke Uchiha staring at her. She fidgeted with her hands by the way he was staring at her. Fugaku noticed this and lightly smacked Sasuke’s head.

“Ow!” Sasuke scowled, rubbing the back of his head, then looking back at Hinata. “I’m Sasuke Uchiha, nice to meet you.” He held his hand out, eyes filled with curiosity still. Hinata reached out, gently taking Sasuke’s hand.

“Very well then, Today’s training will focus on taijutsu.” Hiashi spoke up, walking to the side with Fugaku.

“Hinata, do not hold back. Use the byakugan.” Hinata hesitated for a moment. Yes she had the byakugan, but she was far from perfecting the byakugan. But she had to try, she had to.

Hinata held up a hand sign to activate her byakugan, Sasuke watched closely as she did this. He watched as the shy timid girl faded away slightly as the veins appeared around her lavender eyes.

“Begin.”

Sasuke lunged first, Hinata blocked Sasuke’s kick to her side, jumping back to keep the distance for now. Sasuke closed the distance by coming at her again, Hinata blocked every attack he threw at her. Hinata finally saw an opening, slamming her palm against his chest. Sasuke paused for a second, choking on his spit.

Hinata lowered her stance, eyes widening in panic.. had she gone too far?

Just as she was about to deactivate her byakugan and go to Sasuke’s side, she saw a sly smirk appear on his lips. She saw as a fist came close to her jaw, too close. Hinata slightly tilted her head to the side, barely missing his fist. She grabbed Sasuke’s arm, flipping and slamming him to the ground.

“That’s enough.” Hiashi called out as he made his way to them. Hinata quickly deactivated her byakugan, her chest rising and falling.

“Hinata, you did very well.. you as well, Sasuke.” Hinata put her hand on her chest, trying to steady her breathing.

“Yes, I can’t say I’m surprised.. it’s to be expected by the Hyuga clan.” Fugaku said as he stepped forward, helping Sasuke get back on his feet. Sasuke dusted his clothes off before stretching his arms.

“That was good.” Sasuke said.

Hinata could feel the heat rise up on her face, she wasn’t often praised and especially by her father.

“Go catch your breath before the next training session begins.” Fugaku said to Sasuke, ruffling his hair. Sasuke nodded and took off, Hinata watched as he quickly ran away from his fathers side.

But then his steps slowly began to slow down, Hinata curiously looked at him. He looked over his shoulder, “Aren’t you coming?” Sasuke said to her with a confused look.

Hinata blinked in surprise. She felt a hand land on her back, slightly pushing her forward. “Go on, Hinata.” Hiashi softly said to her, Hinata bowed to her father right before she took off, following Sasuke.

Hinata followed behind Sasuke, keeping a distance between them. She couldn’t tell the type of boy he was and it worried her. “What’s with your eyes by the way?” Sasuke slowed his steps down, letting Hinata catch up to her.

“My.. eyes..?” Hinata repeated his words, Sasuke sat down near the water, looking at the water flow. Hinata took the empty spot next to him, still keeping her distance from him.

“Aren’t they the Hyuga’s kekkei genkai?” Sasuke put his palms on the grass, holding himself up. She nodded, fingers curling into the fabric of her pants, “So.. you do know about the byakugan..?”

Sasuke let out a big sigh before answering her, “Barely, my father told me very little of it on the way here.”

“I-I see..”

Sasuke waited for her to answer but after a while, she didn’t speak. “So are-” Hinata spoke up finally, interrupting whatever he was about to say, “I don’t know much about the byakugan myself..b-but..! It allows me to see everything around me..  I can see the chakra points of somebody when I use it too..”

Sasuke’s eyes widened ever so slightly, “Hey! That kind of sounds like the sharingan! The sharingan is also a dojutsu.” Hinata looked over to Sasuke with curious eyes, “Do.. you have the sharingan, Sasuke-kun..?” Sasuke could barely hear Hinata but he somehow managed to hear her. Sasuke scratched the side of his cheek, looking away, “Not yet.. But I will. And when I do, I’ll be even stronger than my big brother.”

Hinata silently looked at him, Hinata’s shoulders relaxed when she saw the way his eyes lit up when he talked about becoming strong. She admired that about him, maybe she could be encouraged by his determination..

Hinata’s eyes were still on the water, “Y-You..you’ll become strong. Stronger than your big brother, Sasuke-Kun.” Her voice barely above a whisper.

Sasuke blinked and looked at her as her eyes continued to look at the water, there was a slight hint of pink on her cheeks.

Sasuke didn’t answer her right away, letting her words sink into his head. He looked away, looking at the water now with her, “..Thanks.”

And for a little while, they just sat like that. Enjoying the scene around them. Even though they both had just met, they were both able to sit together and silence and not feel awkward or uncomfortable about it.

“Hinata! Sasuke! Come on back!”

———

“So Sasuke, How was training with the Hyuga today?” Mikoto said, serving his plate of food in front of him. Sasuke with starry eyes looked at the food, immediately grabbing his chopsticks.

He stuffed some meat and rice into his mouth, swallowing fast. Sasuke shrugged his shoulders, picking at his food with his chopsticks, “..Yeah.”

Mikoto settled down to her own seat after serving everyone their plate, before she could dig in into her own plate she leaned her cheek against her hand, casually smiling at Sasuke. “She seems like a sweet girl, quiet as well.”

“This is a good opportunity for the both of you, what do you think of her, Sasuke?”

Sasuke paused mid-bite, “She’s fine.. I guess.”

Mikoto laughed lightly, her shoulders bouncing. “Just fine?”

“I didn’t say anything bad.” He muttered under his breath, puffing his cheeks.

“She’s strong,” Sasuke continued on, “Today.. slammed me onto the ground. Hard.”

Fugaku finally spoke up, “The Hyuga take their training very seriously, as should you Sasuke.” Sasuke frowned, “I am serious about it.”

“I think you two will get along very well.” Mikoto said with a smile.

Sasuke didn’t reply, he just continued on eating his meal and having side conversations with his brother Itachi.

But later that night, Sasuke found himself thinking about Hinata. Well, not about Hinata really but more about her byakugan. He was curious on the abilities of it, curious on how a battle would go with a byakugan user and a sharingan user.

That had to wait for now, until he too could awaken the sharingan.

Sasuke tossed himself over to the side, he then thought about how proud she looked whenever her father complimented her, her eyes lit up once he did.

Pulling his blanket over his head, shutting his eyes.

“Tch. And she’s weird too.”
