An Adieu To Lineage
August 10th, 20XX. The day when she saw her. A dreary morn that was, the fog hanging low and the scent of saltwater streaming in the sky. Coughs ringing through the quaint township as allergies become more apparent. Although, for one house there never was illness. No running noses, certainly no bloody ones. The Blanchet House was overlooked, a small crack in the poise of many well-laid bricks. And from that house we see a fine young lady.
She is the crack in the stone on the 10th of August.
Chapter 1; An Adieu To Lineage
Cherry Elle Blanchet's mind was running rampant with inquiries; her great aunt Scarlet would never forgive her. Her brother Cerise would miss her so. Her garden with the beauties no one would care for. Her father... Cherry shuddered at the thought of bringing a tear across his cheek. But she had to leave. Of course she had to! What else could she do? All of the flittering possibilities she could pass by. If she was leaving now, it would have to be now, when everyone was in slumber and when she could justify herself. A mystery needed solving and she refused to ignore it.
Just as Cherry had nearly finished tying the yellow ribbon around her neck, she heard the sound exactly as it had beckoned her on the 10th, causing her to jump. Something on the pavement, she had thought. A scratching... A rolling... And just as she had before, she lifted the high curtains to see the sound. A girl. She didn't know many, and certainly not many men either, but there was an electricity about her that made Cherry wonder if she was normal. How normal could she be if she was on wheels? The likes of which this fascinating girl traveled Cherry had never seen before. She wanted more of this exciting way of life, which was why Cherry had to leave Blanchet House. Maybe she could try on this rolling girl's headband, which seemed to be emanating a booming sound, and maybe try holding... Cherry could not get ahead of herself, she thought.
This morning she was going to do it! Meet the rolling girl! Find out what mysteries of liveliness lie just outside the Blanchet door! It was as though Cherry had gotten so bored with her life locked behind that door that she would risk anything for a chance of life. Even her past bonds.
The girl was fast withdrawing from the street which Cherry lived on. A hastily written letter was scratched onto a handkerchief and left on her bedroom dresser, it read: 'I love you all and I'm quite sorry for leaving! Toodaloo! XOXO - Cherry Elle' She knew this would alarm them, and maybe she wanted to do exactly that. They hadn't been so nice to her as of late, babbling on about continuing the Blanchet legacy with children. She had a look of disdain worn on her countenance every time they tried to mention it to her. But of course she would still miss them. Grabbing her umbrella as to protect her fair skin, she opened the door.
Her heels tapping on the stone pathway in her garden, Cherry kissed and murmured loving words to each plant she helped blossom. As she was going to open the gate to the outside world she paused, and looked back at her world. 16 years of living in Blanchet House and this blooming garden was all she had to show for it. Her heart almost wilted at the thought of these treasures growing old without her. The Nemophilas raised from death. The Aubrietas lining the garden walls. The Narcissus Paperwhites sprouting everywhere. The Cuckoo flowers she'd wept by. The Yarrow in the pond almost begging Cherry to stay. She wiped her face and got over her silly feelings, looking forward at the world ahead of her. This is a good choice, she thought. Right?
