Starsky & Hutch

264. STARSKY & HUTCH

Starsky bites into a fish taco with such relish that Hutch can’t help but laugh. The sun beating down on them and the cool breeze playing through their hair adds to his sense of absolute contentment.

For the last six months, Hutch has been so afraid Gunther would succeed in taking Starsky away, the infections and hard rehabilitation completing the job started by the bullets in his chest.

Seeing Starsky now, the laughter sparkling in his eyes and the smile on his face, is so much better than seeing him through a glass window, unable to breathe on his own.

Starsky shuts his textbook with a sharp snap. Running his fingers through his hair in frustration, he lays his head down on the table. After a few moments of wondering what the hell he was thinking when he decided to go back to school to become a physical therapist instead of trying to become a cop again, he opens up his book.

A soft squeeze of his shoulder brings his head up once more.

“Hey, babe.”

“Problems?”

“Some. I’m studying for a test tomorrow and I’m having trouble keeping the muscle groups straight.”

“Want some help studying?”

“Sure. Thanks, Blondie.”

After a hurried shuffle of the index cards in his hands, Hutch looked up and asked, “What do the brachialis and brachioradialis do?”

Scrubbing his hands across his face, Starsky sighed in exasperation. “I’m tired. Why don’t we go out to dinner or something?”

“Come on. You know the answer to this.”

“I’m hungry, Blintz.”

“When we’re done, we’ll go out to dinner. Then come home for dessert.”

With a smirk, Starksy laughingly asked, “Home for dessert, huh? Okay. Brachioradialis flexes the forearm at the elbow and brachialis is a muscle in the upper arm that flexes the elbow joint.”
