You gotta step into the daylight and let it go
Summary
It's September 2024, The Poets have moved away from Welton and are beginning their journey into navigating college. It's tough, but nearly as bad as Welton in their opinion. Mr Keating was fired from Welton following Neil's attempt as the faculty and Mr Perry still found him guilty of driving Neil to make that choice, but Keating has now found himself employed at a college as the English Literature professor, and while looking at his register has realised he teaches his 7 favourite students from Welton, and he is ecstatic. The Poets are all somehow sharing a dorm together (a lot of bargaining from Charlie and money payed to the college by Mr Dalton so he didn't have to deal with his son's pestering), and they are now leading their own independent lives.-
Note
I apologise if this isn't as good as you may hope, I've given it my best attempt. All chapter titles will likely be song lyrics or titles since I cannot live without music. Welcome to the first chapter of this story, I'm hoping you enjoy it!Self indulgent Dead Poets Society modern day College AU because I'm a sucker for these AU's. This is my first and possibly only story here, and honestly I might not update it too often unless I remember its existence or find motivation. Cameron didn't snitch about the Dead Poets Society, he loved it too much. This is based on UK University life when writing about the actual University as I'm from England. Story title is from Daylight by Taylor Swift.

"Okay, I know we're splitting the couples evenly, but how to we split Cameron and Stick?"

Cameron's head whipped around, staring Neil dead in the eyes." What are you on about? Why are you struggling to decide who we hang out with."

"Well, I need to debate whether it's better to put you with us, and you deal with Charlie. Or if Stick should go with us, and he deals with Charlie." Neil stated to Cameron, holding his mug of tea.

For some unknown reason to most of the group, Charlie and Neil had been plotting for a week to split the couples up for an evening after claiming everyone was 'hiding away with their partners too much'.

Meeks and Pitts weren't too phased by the idea at first, although Meeks now was having second thoughts after having his hair pulled by Charlie after being placed in his group. Todd seemed more than happy to hang out with some of his friends. Cameron seemed apprehensive at first, but decided it'd be nice for his boyfriend to get to know his friends better.

The groups currently stood with Group A (Or 'Group Awesomeness', courtesy of Charlie) being Charlie, Neil, and Meeks. While Group B was Todd, Knox, and Pitts. But the debate stood, where to put Cameron and Stick.

Charlie gasped, faking being offended. "What do you mean 'being stuck' with me? I'm delightful."

Stick looked between the groups, before kissing Cameron's cheek, and walking to Neil's group. "I'll join this lot, you join the others, yeah?"

Cameron nodded a bit, smiling as a light blush crept onto his cheeks. "Okay. Just text if you need relief from Charlie."

Charlie glared at Cameron, moving to take a step closer before Neil grabbed his arm.

"Come on, we have food to buy and movies to watch. Bye love." Neil grinned, waving to Todd, and dragging Charlie out the door.

Meeks shrugged, waving bye to Pitts before leading Stick out of the room.

"I know it may seem like a lot, but I promise Charlie's not that bad. He just likes to wind Cameron up." Meeks muttered to Stick, watching him nod.

Stick hummed, looking out the car window before looking at Meeks.

"I know, I hear all about it when Cameron sleeps at my dorm sometimes. He's not a fan of his room being filled with loose feathers or having crumbs spread on his bed sheets. It can really bother him sometimes."

Meeks glanced at Charlie, sewing he wasn't paying attention to their conversation, and was too busy singing to Sabrina Carpenter.

"What do you mean, it really bothers him?"

Stick shrugged, fidgeting with his fingers. "Well, it really fucks with his sensory issues when he has little crumbs on his bed, he said it makes his skin crawl. And he hates his room being disorganised. He thrives from organisation, routine, and cleanliness. So it really throws him off when his room isn't clean, or he can see it's been messed with."

Mesks frowned deeply. "Is that why he's been sleeping at yours recently?'

Stick nodded, glancing over to Neil and Charlie. "Don't tell Charlie though, Cameron wants to talk to him about it eventually."

Meeks nodded slowly, thinking. "Does Cameron have some kind of sensory disorder? Or neurodivergency?"

Stick just shrugged, unsure of how to answer. "Honestly I don't know. If he has, he hasn't told me. But I want him to do that when he's ready."

Neil turned to looked at stick and Meeks, grinning. "Cmon, were having a free for all on snacks. Just grab your favourites. Charlie said it's all being charged to the 'bank of Daniel Dalton'."

Charlie cackled, nodding as he got out of the car, locking it once everyone was out. "Damn right."

Stick tilted his head, sticking closer to Meeks as he spoke to the group. "Who's Daniel?"

Charlie looked towards Stick, realisation dawning on his face. "Damnit. You've not been part of the group long so you won't know. My mistake. Daniel is my dad, great guy. He gives me money to keep me from causing trouble. But if anything, the money goes towards the trouble." He grinned, dashing off towards the cookies and crisps isle, Neil quickly following.

Meeks and Stick looked at eachother, shrugging, before wandering down isles together.

---------

Unbeknowst to the other people in his group, Pitts was an extremely observer person. He tended to fixate on people's body language to determine how they are feeling rather than making eye contact or looking at their facial expressions. Reading peoples body language was just easier to him. So, that's exactly how he realised Todd was feeling off.

Todd had been sat in-between Pitts and Cameron for most of the evening, fidgeting with the sleeves and drawstrings of his hoodie, and picking at the skin around his fingernails. An anxious habit Pitts had regularly picked up on.

They were in the middle of watching a movie, he couldn't remember the name of it, but Pitts didn't want to disturb everyone. Quickly typing away on his phone, he looked at Todd, nudging him gently before showing him a note on his phone.

'Are you alright?'

A simple question, harmless to most. But Todd didn't know what to say, so he just shrugged, carefully taking Pitts phone to type a response.

'I think so. Just a bit tired, and wondering if Neil's okay.'

Pitts nodded in understanding, humming as he took his phone back.

'You can always text and check in. No one will be upset if you do.'

Showing the message to Todd, Pitts watched as he physically relaxed, as if all the tension in his shoulders had evaporated from the reassurance.

Todd quickly took his phone from his pocket, texting Neil.

Neily

Hey, just checking in that you're okay.

Yeah, I'm okay. What about you, I would've thought you'd be watching something by now?

Oh, we are, but I got a bit anxious and needed to check.

Ah, okay.

Do you need me to come home? I can if you need me to?"

No no it's okay. Pitt's helped me, he calmed me down a bit. Reassurance and all.

I'll leave you be now, I love you <3

I love you too <3

Pitts smiled, happy to see Todd was calmer now. He whispered quietly to him. "Feeling better?"

Todd nodded, smiling as he looked at Pitts. "Very. Thank you."

Pitts shrugged, feeling shy under the gratitude. "It's nothing. Just doing what friends do."

Group A had ended up at Sticks dorm for the evening until they all decided to turn in for the night, watching movies. Spencer had heard the talking, and was quickly invited to join.

Stick and Meeks had chosen to sit on the sofa behind Charlie, Neil, and Spencer, continuing the conversations they'd been having on the drive to the shops.

"So, is Cameron cuddly? He seems like the kinda guy who loves to cuddle with people when he sleeps. Or in general." Mesks whispered, grinning as he munched on a bag of wine gums.

Stick laughed, covering his mouth to keep himself quieter, before nodding. "He gives the best hugs. Honestly, they're fantastic, and he has a habit of drawing shaped on my back or arm whenever we're cuddling and watching a movie. Or even if we're on our way to classes, he'll hold my hand and draw a pattern on the back of it, or rub his thumb on my hand, and-"

He looked up slowly, flushing red as he realised he'd been rambling.  He looked to Steven, watching him grin.

"You're whipped for him, y'know?"

Stick nodded, sighing in content. "Yes I am. But who can blame me? He's perfect."
