You gotta step into the daylight and let it go
Summary
It's September 2024, The Poets have moved away from Welton and are beginning their journey into navigating college. It's tough, but nearly as bad as Welton in their opinion. Mr Keating was fired from Welton following Neil's attempt as the faculty and Mr Perry still found him guilty of driving Neil to make that choice, but Keating has now found himself employed at a college as the English Literature professor, and while looking at his register has realised he teaches his 7 favourite students from Welton, and he is ecstatic. The Poets are all somehow sharing a dorm together (a lot of bargaining from Charlie and money payed to the college by Mr Dalton so he didn't have to deal with his son's pestering), and they are now leading their own independent lives.-
Note
I apologise if this isn't as good as you may hope, I've given it my best attempt. All chapter titles will likely be song lyrics or titles since I cannot live without music. Welcome to the first chapter of this story, I'm hoping you enjoy it!Self indulgent Dead Poets Society modern day College AU because I'm a sucker for these AU's. This is my first and possibly only story here, and honestly I might not update it too often unless I remember its existence or find motivation. Cameron didn't snitch about the Dead Poets Society, he loved it too much. This is based on UK University life when writing about the actual University as I'm from England. Story title is from Daylight by Taylor Swift.

God, I'm so lovesick

Song title: Lovesick by Laufey

(08/10/24)

When Cameron woke up the first thing he felt was the raging headache that spread across his head, as if his brain was having a boxing match against his skull.

Rolling over, he checked his phone, grumbling as the bright light glared in his face. He clicked on the top notification, rubbing his eyes as they tried to adjust, now widening in shock.

Stick Lawrence has matched with you!

Stick Lawrence started a conversation.

Stick: Hey! Neil mentioned you weren't feeling well earlier when I saw him. If you want I can bring you some snacks and my laptop to watch a movie. Only if you want to, I don't want you to feel pressured!

Staring at the conversation, he slowly got up, cocooning himself in his blanket as he shuffled out of the room, seeing Neil, Todd, and Charlie on the sofa.

"Neil, did you tell Stick I'm sick?"

Neil's head whipped around, looking at Cameron. "Yeah! He asked about you and said he was sad he didn't see you in your Psychology lecture so I mentioned you were ill. Did he message you? I knew he would!"

Cameron looked between the 3 of them, realising they knew about the profile he had created. "Okay, is it alright if Stick comes over for a bit? I just wanna check with you guys first."

Charlie tuned, smirking as he held a hand up to Cameron.

"Yes yes. But, you must keep the door open, and no funny business young man!"

Cameron snorted, walking back to his room.

"We should be saying that to you and Knox!"

Charlie's cheeks flushed bright red. "We will do what we want, thank you!"

Stick: Hey! Neil mentioned you weren't feeling well earlier when I saw him. If you want I can bring you some snacks and my laptop to watch a movie. Only if you want to, I don't want you to feel pressured!

Cameron: Heya. Yeah you can come over, my dorms 315. But I don't want you getting sick.

Stick: Don't worry about that, I've got a fantastic immune system. Besides, if I get sick, it'll be worth it to spend time with you. I'll be round in about half an hour, that okay?

Cameron: Absolutely! Text me when you're here and I'll let you in.

At that, Cameron stuck his phone on charge before running to his room to have a shower, not wanting to look terrible with his slightly greasy hair if he had a date coming. After a 10 minutes shower he rushed back to his room, putting on some fresh clothes he knew he'd be comfy in, but were better than the pyjamas he'd been wearing all day. Drying his hair, he looked towards his phone, seeing the screen light up. He put his hairdryer away, looking at his phone

Stick: Hey, I'm outside :)

Cameron rushed to the door, opening it to see Stick stood Infront of him holding a tote bag filled with packets of what he could assume was food.

Stick waved, smiling sweetly to Cameron. "Hey, I thought I'd bring some snacks you like. Where'd you wanna watch the movie?"

"We can go to my room, follow me."

Cameron moved to the side, letting Stick walk in before shutting the door. He quickly held Sticks hand, guiding him to his room, but couldn't get through the living room without a comment.

"Oooo! Cammy remember to be polite! And don't shut your door young man!" Charlie laughed, whistling to Cameron and Stick, noticing how they were holding hands.

Cameron rolled his eyes, quickly giving Charlie the middle finger before going back to his room with Stick, shutting the door behind him, laughing when he hears Charlie jokingly shouting.

"What did you bring then?"

Stick grinned, piling packets of Cameron's favourite mint chocolate, pepsi max, and crisps. He then pulled out a large container or soup, holding it out sheepishly to Cameron.

"I remember you saying while we were at Welton how you missed when your mum would make you chicken and sweetcorn soup when you're sick. So I looked up a recipe and cooked some, I thought you might like it."

Cameron gasped quietly, his eyes lighting up as he took the warm containers from Stick, smiling.

"It's brilliant, thank you. I'll go get some bowls and spoons so we can have some while we watch a movie. My laptops on the bed of you wanna load up a movie?"

Stick nodded, sitting on the edge of Cameron's bed, loading up netflix to find a good movie for them to watch, settling on his Adam Sandler movie, Grown Ups.

Cameron quickly shuffled out of the room, shutting the door behind him as he looked at the three on the sofa.

"He made me my favourite soup. He remembered me talking about it from Welton, and made it for me! Holy shit, what do I do?"

Todd turned to look at Cameron this time. "Simple, thank him, serve yourselves some soup, chill out, and maybe cuddle. That's always a solid first date."

Neil nodded in agreement. "Maybe some hand holding too!"

Charlie looked at the two, nodding before looking at Cameron, a sly grin spreadinh across his face. "No hanky panky under my roof though. You hear me?"

Cameron looked at Charlie, horrified. "Oh god no!"

Todd giggled, looking between the two. "Yeah Charlie, don't bring that up until the 3rd date!"

Cameron shook his head, heading to the kitchen to dish up two bowls of the soup. Opening the container, the smell made a wave of nostalgia wash over Cameron.

Whenever he was sick at home, his mum would make him Chicken and sweetcorn soup, and this smelt identical to the one his mum used to make him. He grinned, grabbing two spoons before dishing up two bowls of the soup, walking back to his room.

Stick looked up, smiling as he grabbed the bowls so Cameron could sit down, handing him a bowl back once he had done so.

Around an hour into the movie, Stick had made Cameron lay down, so to watch the movie properly, Cameron had rested his head on Sticks thigh, which he found to be surprisingly comfy.

"Thank you for making me this, it smells amazing. But seriously, I really appreciate it. No one's ever done this for me before." Cameron whispered appreciatively as the movie played.

Stick smiled, softly playing with Cameron's hair as he gave his scalp a massage.

"It's no problem. Besides, everyone deserves to be taken care of when they're sick."

Cameron had never felt more cared for them he did then as he slowly drifted off to sleep.

He felt at home.
