Los Seis de Nublar
5- Los Seis de Nublar
The sound of Brooklyn's tablet breaking the silence brought a spark of hope to everyone. "It's a boat! On shore!" Brooklyn shouted, her voice filled with excitement. Everyone's eyes lit up, and although the tension was still present, this news meant only one thing: the possibility of leaving the island.
Yaz looked at the tablet screen and, like the others, quickly approached the edge, feeling a rueful relief. Finally! After everything they'd been through, the idea of returning home, to a safe place, was a dream come true.
"Let's go!" Darius said, smiling broadly, as everyone prepared to leave to meet the boat. But for some reason, the excitement the others felt couldn't calm the storm inside Yaz.
The sound of Brooklyn's tablet breaking the silence brought a spark of hope to everyone. "It's a boat! On shore!" Brooklyn shouted, her voice filled with excitement. Everyone's eyes lit up, and although the tension was still present, that news meant only one thing: the possibility of leaving the island.
The news that the boat was on the shore came as a ray of hope for everyone. Brooklyn's tablet had detected the signal, and excitement quickly took over the group. The kids rushed to get everything ready to go investigate.
Yaz, at first, couldn't believe it. She had spent so much time on the island, fighting to survive, and now, finally, she saw a chance to escape. She could return home. She could hug her mother, feel the warmth of her home. The idea of returning to normal was incredibly tempting.
"Let's go!" Darius said, smiling broadly, as everyone prepared to leave to meet the boat. But for some reason, the excitement the others felt couldn't calm the storm inside Yaz.
As they made their way toward the shore, Yaz looked around, feeling the weight of everything she had experienced. And although the feeling of relief grew within her, so did a shadow she couldn't shake. She looked at Sammy, walking beside her, laughing with the others, but Yaz knew something would be lost in that return. Something that could never be recovered.
What will happen to us? Yaz thought, unwilling to admit it. Everything will change. We won't be together anymore, not in the same way.
However, what she felt now wasn't just joy. It was a confusing mix of emotions. She was happy to be able to see her mother, to be off that hellish island, to finally leave the dangers behind. But there was also a weight on her heart that she couldn't ignore.
On the island, Sammy and she had always been together. No matter what happened, no matter how difficult it was, they always supported each other, and in that chaos, they had become something more, something deep and complex.
But upon returning, all that would change. Sammy would return to Texas, and Yaz didn't know if they would ever see each other again. The distance wouldn't just be measured in miles, but in what lay between them: the life that would continue on. And although their friendship remained strong, the reality was that they would no longer share every moment as before. The island had given them something unique, but that something was about to disappear.
Yaz looked at Sammy, who was walking beside her, talking animatedly with Ben about the future, about what they would do when they were off the island. Sammy didn't seem to worry about anything, her eyes shining with that unmistakable spark of optimism that had always characterized her. But Yaz, looking at her, felt her heart beat faster, that mixture of unrequited love that had been consuming her for so long.
In the end, she couldn't deny what she felt. Sammy wasn't just her friend. She was so much more than that. And although in her mind she knew the right thing to do was to let those feelings go, her heart told her otherwise. How could she move forward knowing that she and Sammy wouldn't share the same life off the island?
When they arrived at the boat and saw Brand, Roxie, and Dr. Mea, joy overflowed. The laughter, the hugs, the feeling of collective relief was palpable. Everyone felt as if they could finally breathe after so much time under pressure.
The boat was in front of them, and everyone was rushing to get on, laughing, hugging, leaving behind the island that had changed them forever. But Yaz couldn't stop thinking about the future. As they approached the boat, her mind filled with doubts and fears. Could you ever be happy in your normal life again? Without Sammy by her side like before? She couldn't help but feel a pang in her chest. This was the end of an era, the end of something she might never have again.
The journey back wasn't just taking her back home, but also to a future where she would have to learn to live without Sammy by her side in the same way. And that, even though she knew it, still hurt. As the island began to fade into the horizon, Yaz felt a wave of sadness wash over her. This isn't a happy ending for me... she thought. It's just the beginning of a goodbye I never wanted to face.

The pier was filled with voices, laughter, and tears. Parents running to their children, arms wrapped around bodies they hadn't felt in months. It was a beautiful chaos, filled with relief and love.
Yaz stepped off the boat with firm steps but a pounding heart. When she saw her mother in the crowd, she couldn't help but run to her. The two hugged tightly, as if one could anchor the other so she wouldn't get lost again.
"Mom..." Yaz whispered, her voice cracking from months of suppressed silence.
"My baby... you're okay, alive..." Yaz's mother covered her with kisses and caresses, as if she still couldn't believe she had her back.
Yaz closed her eyes, clinging to the familiar warmth, to the scent of home that came with her. For a moment, she let the calm envelop her. Let that moment be hers. But when she opened her eyes, she saw her.
A few feet away, Sammy threw herself into her father's arms. He lifted her into the air, spinning her around as she laughed, tears streaming down her cheeks. That laugh, that energy, was the same one that had captivated Yaz without her realizing it at first. And now, in that reunion, Yaz understood what it truly meant: this is the end.
Each to their own world. Each to their own family. To their own destiny.
Despite having her mother by her side, Yaz felt her chest tighten. Seeing Sammy in his father's arms was like watching a door slowly close. A door that might never open again.
"Yaz... are you okay?" her mother asked, noticing her silence.
"Yes, just... I'm happy to be with you," she replied with a soft smile, though her gaze never left Sammy's.
Because, even though she was home, something in Yaz had been left behind. Something she might never recover.
And that was the goodbye no one said.
The hardest one.
The one that hurts without words.
