What I Lost.
I am flattered Mr. Potter, but I must reject your proposal."
Harry's eyes widen and his heart tore. He stared at the beautiful blonde girl with liquid mercury eyes.
His heart was broken and he felt like he couldn't breath. Before he could question her rejection, a voice interrupted.
"Lyra? Where are you?"
And right in front of Harry the pureblood mask of indifference slipped at the sound of the voice and a look of love and adoration found its way on her face.
The look took Harry's breath away, but broke his heart even more because the look was not directed at him.
Without another word Lyra Malfoy walked away towards the voice, disregarding Harry.
Harry looked towards the owner of the voice, the one who caused a beautiful look to be placed on the Malfoy heiress' face. He was shocked to find the owner to be former Gryffindor housemate, Neville Longbottom.
Neville smiled at the blonde, who gripped his arm in her hold. He gave the blonde a look of love. Finally the heiress acknowledged Harry with a head bow before departing.
Neville turned his head towards Harry and gave him a look Harry had never seen on the Longbottom heir. Neville gave Harry a look of warning, a look that told him to back off.
The couple left and Harry stood in the same spot for another two minutes before he apparated to Grimmald's Place.
Seeing that Sirius wasn't home, Harry located the liquor cabinet and grabbed the fire whiskey. He popped open the bottle and took a swig, the burn making it's way down his throat.
As he sat down on the armchair Harry thought of Neville Longbottom. How did he become close to Lyra Malfoy and when. With Malfoy being in Slytherin and Neville being in Gryffindor the two would not have ran in the same social circle, especially with the rivalry between the two houses.
Harry would know, as soon as he entered Hogwarts he was told about the evil that was the Slytherin house. How those of the house were evil and dark bigots who would follow the man who killed Harry's parents. After, Harry along with most of the Gryffindor house would find any way to start a fight with any Slytherin.
Despite this Harry would find himself looking towards the blonde hair Slytherin. Lyra Malfoy always had a look of indifference on her face and took no Gryffindor's cruel words to heart. She stood proud and walked with a flowing grace. Ginny and Ron hated her.
Harry had chalked it up to being the blood feud between the Malfoys and Weasleys. But that had changed when Harry took into account Persephone Weasley, the first female born into the Weasley family and the only Weasley who became a Slytherin. Harry had seen her a few times when she was Head Girl. None of the Weasleys talked about her and Ginny and Molly claimed that Ginny was the only girl.
Harry could only guess what happened when Persephone Weasley became Persephone Prewitt-Black. Harry didn't ask or really think about it back then.
Harry had never questioned the Weasleys and in his mind they did no wrong, but with the firewhiskey in his system, it got him thinking.
Every bad thought he had about the Slytherins and Lyra Malfoy stemmed from the Weasleys. Molly had told him that all Slytherins were evil when Persephone was in earshot. It was Ron who said the Malfoys were evil and a bunch of death eaters. It was Arthur Weasley who said Lucius Malfoy was the worst kind of man. And it was Ginny who would whisper poisonous words about the Malfoy heiress in his ear. The twins had their hate against the Slytherins, especially their estranged sister. The only members who never said a word of hate about Slytherins were Charlie and Bill. Both rarely home though.
Harry felt anger, if he didn't listen to the Weasley family, he would have Lyra. But suddenly he was filled with guilt, Harry was to blame. Sure he listened but it was Harry who would always stare down any Slytherin. He helped discourage any Gryffindors to become friends with any Slytherin. Though he never bullied a Slytherin, he never put a stop to it either.
And after the battle of Hogwarts it was free game. Slytherins were being hexed and cursed from left to right. It was Lyra Malfoy who was the younger snakes saving grace.
After the war no evidence was found of the Malfoys being in connection to Voldemort, or at least Lyra and her mother had no ties to the mad man, tomorrow would determine if Lucius Malfoy was a death eater. Harry had been happy the Malfoy heiress had no connection or loyalty to Voldemort.
But just because Lyra was free did not mean the same for the rest of the Slytherins and Malfoy took the role of protector. It was said that in the dorms Malfoy was known as the mother of the snakes. She would never let a little Slytherin wander alone and she would block any hex that was aimed at the younger years, that's when Harry really started to watch her more.
Thinking on the rumors, Harry remembered a rumor of a Gryffindor helping protect the Slytherins from attacks, he now guessed that it was Neville.
Harry was broken from his thoughts when the bottle was empty. He was about to grab for another one when he decided against it and just headed up to bed.
Climbing the stairs Harry thought of Neville's closeness to the Malfoy heiress, Harry was jealous but he had no right to be, a part of him wanted to challenge Neville's claim and steal the blonde beauty from him.
But Harry had no right, Lyra Malfoy did not see him like everyone else did, she held no admiration for him. In fact she probably saw him as nothing, just a golden boy who bullied her house and had openly insulted her family.
Reaching his bed, Harry pulled the covers over himself and dreamt of silver eyes staring at brown eyes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day Harry was woken by Kreacher with a potion for hangovers. Harry thanked the elf and downed the potion in under a second. Kreacher then announced that Hermione, Remus, Tonks, and little Teddy were eating breakfast with Sirius.
As Harry made his way down stairs towards the dining room. Tonks was feeding little Teddy while Remus and Sirius were talking to Hermione about something. As Harry got closer he greeted his godson with a pat on the head and said hello to Tonks.
"So how is everything?" Harry asked.
Hermione looked towards Harry and tried to smile but Harry could see she was struggling.
His eyes snapped to his godfather in worry.
"What's wrong?"
It was Tonks who looked at Harry, while everyone looked frustrated, Tonks had a smug look on her face.
"Well it would seem dear Uncle Luccy isn't a death eater."
Harry's eyes widen at this, he could have bet all the galleons in his account that Lucius Malfoy was a death eater, or at least associated with Voldemort.
Tonks continued. "Arthur Weasley and Kingsley had moved the interrogation early in the morning. Arthur believed Uncle Luccy would try to run. We brought 'im in and no dark mark could be found on him."
Harry was about to ask about the day when the death eaters attacked hogsmeade. Some death eaters had stated Lucius was there. As if Remus read his mind, he said.
"There was proof Malfoy was not there, even provided us with a memory of what happened that day, that's when, well..."
Remus soon became uncomfortable. Hermione was nice enough to take over.
"Lucius Malfoy was attending a wedding that day. Persephone and Marcus Flint's wedding. I don't know more than that, something happened in there that had Arthur in holding and Lucius Malfoy leaving the ministry."
Harry was shocked to hear Persephone had married Marcus Flint, the cruel, aggressive chaser from the Slytherin team. He was also Oliver Wood's enemy.
The relationship between Oliver and Flint was not a good one, both hated each other from the get go. No that's a lie Oliver never had a problem with Flint until one day he just did. Harry believed it had something to do with a red haired Slytherin.
Oliver always had a fascination with Persephone Wea- Blac-, er, Flint since Harry has known him. Always asking about her when the Weasley family was out of earshot. Harry had noticed one time after Gryffindor had beat Slytherin Oliver looked like he was on top of the world. Suddenly Oliver froze and tensed up, his mood deflated and he went to bed early. Harry had remembered seeing what caused his captain to tense up, Persephone and Flint were hugging. Flint had his arms around her and his nose was buried in her curly red hair.
Harry wondered what would be Wood's reaction to hearing about this? Did he still care? Harry didn't think so, Oliver Wood was a mature bloke.
Hermione continued speaking and Harry was snapped out of his thoughts.
"Afterwards Molly came home and asked Fleur and I to leave, but Bill wanted Fleur to stay, then Bill and Molly started arguing so I just took my leave."
"Malfoy is free because if not only the evidence, including the memory, but now the ministry is putting Arthur under investigation. The ministry believes that Arthur is letting his emotions and prejudices blind him." Remus states.
"Which is total shit." added Sirius. "That damn death eater is being let off the hook-"
"-Sirius! That's enough, you're just letting your hatred blind you, Lucius neither had the dark mark nor any affiliations with Voldemort. He was under veritaserum for crying out loud!" Remus explained.
Harry sighed, rubbing his temples. It was too early for this.
"Okay," Harry sighed. "Since that's done with, What's next?"
Harry glanced at his friend when he noticed a sad questioning look on Hermione's face. He asked his friend what was wrong.
Hermione just nodded her head and said.
"It's probably nothing but when I was at the Burrow Ron became incredibly angry when Lucius Malfoy was free, that I could understand, but he wanted to know about Lyra Malfoy. Why? Yes Malfoy is her father but Lyra has nothing to do with the investigation, she's been clear of being in connection with Voldemort. What confused me more was when Ron asked if Lucius still had the right of something, I didn't get to hear the rest, Molly shushed Ron and asked me to come here, I don't get it."
Harry himself was also confused too. Why did his best mate want to know about a girl he and his family obviously despised. Was it so he could rub in her father's incarceration? Harry didn't get it.
Suddenly Harry heard someone apparate in the building. Turning around he was faced with an angry Weasley family minus Arthur.
Molly started her rant.
“Can you believe the ministry?! Locking up MY husband while they let a death eater go free! The injustice! Shacklebolt has lost his bloody mind! Malfoy needs to be locked up along with that wife of his!”
This confused Harry greatly, Narcissa Malfoy had no ties to the death eaters and had even helped him by attacking Bellatrix when the crazed witch had him pinned at the battle of Hogwarts. This made her a war hero in fact and that was the reason why the ministry didn't really go hard on her in the interrogation. Harry couldn't find a reason to lock Narcissa up but Molly did.
“Molly please, Narcissa isn't guilty of anything, she even saved Harry from Bellatrix Lestrange.” stated Remus.
“But she didn't kill the bitch, my mother did.” Ginny sneered.
“That doesn't make it a crime Ginny! She was able to save Harry and Narcissa left Bellatrix with some damage. No matter how evil, you can't expect the woman to kill her own sister!” argued Hermione.
“That's enough out of you!” Molly yelled at Hermione shocking everyone in the room. Molly had always seemed to love the curly haired girl, she never raised her voice to her.
Molly then continued. “Those people need to be off the streets and straight to Azkaban! We all know they're dark wizards and they're raising that girl of theirs to be corrupted also. She needs to be taken out of that environment and rehabilitated in a nice, light environment to save her.”
Sirius then interrupted “What the hell does Lyra have to do with any of this? The girl is innocent and why the sudden interest in her?!
Turning red, the Weasley matriarch answered. “I'll have you know Black that the girl is already of marriage age and if you don't believe those people won't have her arranged to some other dark family and spawn more dark children!”
Harry almost snorted, yeah as if the Longbottoms counted as dark wizards.
“I still don't see how Lyra Malfoy has anything to do with any of the death eaters, much less who she marries. Plus she is already engaged.” Harry stated.
Everyone in the room turned towards him, most of shock except Tonks who seemed to be smiling.
Ron suddenly stepped closer towards him and asked Harry how he knew.
Shit, Harry should have stayed quiet, now he had to explained to the Order by retelling his rejected proposal, too damn early.
“Well.. yesterday I had seen Lyra Malfoy and I was made aware that she was engaged when she decline my proposal for courtship.”
“WHAT?!!” Yelled Molly, Ginny, and Ron.
“HARRY HOW COULD YOU?! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO MARRY GINNY NOT THAT GIRL!” Yelled Molly.
“What do you mean marry Ginny?! Her and I are not together and Lyra was my possible soul mate.” the boy who lived retorted.
At Harry’s last year of Hogwarts he found out about soul mates, mainly possible soul mates. It was what it sounded, when you meet someone you have a soul bond with there are other people who could share that soul bond with. The only way for that soul bond to break would be if one of the soul bond in any way hurt the other. Harry had believed that was the reason why he was enamored with Lyra Malfoy and he had been excited to have someone who could connect to him, but now he knew he broke the bond with Lyra by his actions in school.
“Harry what?” Sirius sputtered.
“As if Malfoy would choose you when she had other options!” Ron yelled.
“Ron, mate, what are you saying? Are you telling me that you have a bond with Lyra? That's not possible! You and Ginny have been trying to make her life hell ever since I first met you!” Harry argued back.
“Enough!” Yelled Sirius. “I am Lord Black, who Lyra marries is up to me! With Lucius under investigation I can get custody of her and I can annul any engagement! No one of my blood is going to marry a dark wizard-!”
Sirius was interrupted when the noise of apparation was heard, soon three women were standing in the middle of the room; Augusta Longbottom, Andromeda Tonks, and to Harry's surprise, Narcissa Malfoy.
“What the hell is she doing here?!” shrilled Molly.
“Mom?” questioned Tonks.
“Sirius Black you are not to interfere with the affairs of my daughter, you have no right!” stated the Lady Malfoy.
“I have no right?! I am Lord-”
“No. You. Are. Not.” Narcissa narrowed her eyes.
“Sirius you have no claim to the Black Lordship, you were disowned.” Andromeda explained.
“Andy, what?”
“Edward Lupin is heir to Lord Black, Nymphadora is his proxy until he is of age, and if she wishes not to be than Andromeda takes the role. You hold no authority to the Lordship and therefore no authority of the chosen heir.”
Though Harry was shocked to hear that Sirius was not a Lord, he was really happy when Mrs. Malfoy said that Harry wasn't heir. He never wanted to be heir to the Black legacy, but he didn't want to tell his godfather. Though he is shocked to hear his own godson is heir.
“So you mean to tell me I have authority of who my young cousin gets to marry?” questioned Tonks.
The Metamorphagus woman was looking at her precious child in her arms, watching his hair change from brown to pink.
Harry saw Mrs. Malfoy turn towards her niece.
“You as proxy to the future Lord Black have the authority of commanding the family, in order for you to annul the engagement between Lyra and her fiance you must try to fight Lucius on the matter since he is Lyra’s Lord directly.”
The blonde woman paused in her speech and Harry could see worry in her features.
“But.. please consider letting your cousin keep her engagement, this man is her soul bond, both have nurtured their soul bond since end of their first year at Hogwarts.” the blonde woman pleaded.
Harry felt his heart breaking again, the bond between Neville and Lyra had grown and strengthened while he just destroyed his with every action and word against her. He wanted to be angry, but he had no right. He would proclaim the evil of the Malfoy family to the blonde heiress’ face, he was the one who never stopped the torment of the younger Slytherins, even when she would look at him with a pleading look for him to intervene, and in some occasions, he would be the one to draw his wand at her. She never raised her’s to him she would only just stare at him. It made him sick of himself.
He was drawn from his thoughts when Tonks asked a question.
“Does this man treat her well, Aunt Cissa? Does she love him? Will she be safe with this man?”
Narcissa Malfoy smiled and glanced at Augusta Longbottom.
“The boy is kind to her, he treats her well and I feel happy when I see him with my daughter because I know he would never hurt her in anyway. He is an honorable young man who would do anything for my girl and when I look at my daughter when she looks at him, it is a look of love, the kind of love you have with your husband, the kind of look I look at my Lucius. This young man is honorable and kind, I am honored to have him as a son-in-law.”
Harry was moved by Lady Malfoy’s words, to speak about Neville that way was very heartwarming, he knew Neville was a good bloke and any girl would be lucky to be married to him one day. Unfortunately these words didn't lessen the heartache Harry felt, he wishes he would be seen as a good man to somebody’s mother. Yes he defeated Voldemort, but that's not what he wants to be known for. But he has to be happy for Lyra, she deserves happiness and Neville can give it to her.
Harry could see the twinkle in Tonks’ eyes, she's happy her cousin found someone wonderful.
“Can I ask for the name of the lucky man?” she teased.
“Neville Longbottom.” Augusta smiled with an air of confidence.
Gasps were heard around the name of the groom. Shocked that the Gentle Gryffindor and the Slytherin ice princess were in love, and are going to be married.
“You're joking right! Longbottom?, no way. That bloke is a sissy, a clutz who could barely make a spark of light come out of his wand!" Ron jeered.
This shocked Harry, how could Ron talk like that about Neville, the guy was a good bloke and Neville was the one who killed Nagini.
Suddenly though a wand was pointed at Ron and it was Augusta Longbottom.
"Say another word like that again about my grandson and it'll be the last thing you do, boy. I do not know what's wrong with that head of your’s, maybe all that time being dragged around as you clung to young Potter's coattail has boggled your mind, but my grandson is a strong man. It was him who slayed the blasted snake and it was him who helped those against the cruelties you gave to your younger classmates. The reason you are angry boy, is that long ago you had a bond with my future granddaughter-in-law."
This shocked everyone in the room and all stared at the Weasleys who only turned red in anger at the words being spoken.
"That bond is over your foolish boy, it broke before any of you went to Hogwarts and that is because of the cruelty of you and yours, it was you who broke that possible bond with your cruelty. Then you become more cruel to the girl and now that she is of marrying age you want to marry her, and for what? Her money, most likely if you're anything like your viper of a mother."
This caused a shocked gasp to escape from Hermione and Harry could see the look on Ron as if Lady Longbottom did figure him out.
Lady Longbottom continued.
"But that is never going to happen, the only bond Lyra Malfoy now has is with my grandson, all the other ones are no more for the both of them. They will be married."
Ron suddenly roared, throwing his wand out.
"You old hag!" The redhead shouted, but before he could say a spell, Harry magiced the wand to the other side of the house.
Ron turned to him with a look of betrayal but Harry could not find it in himself to care as he felt betrayed by him as well. Harry just turned to the Lady Malfoy as she handed Tonks and Remus a beautiful baby blue invitation, most likely Neville and Lyra's wedding invitation. Remus smiled at Mrs. Malfoy as she gave him the invitation, no hesitation to touch him since he was a werewolf as she gave him a pat on his shoulder, Harry could not even recall if Molly had ever done that. Mrs.Malfoy gave a little bow to Teddy and kissed his little hand and placed a kiss on Tonks' forehead.
Mrs. Malfoy and Mrs. Longbottom made their way to leave but not before Augusta Longbottom gave a fierce glare to everyone.
Immediately chaos ensured, Hermoine stormed up the stairs, sending a hex to Ron when he tried to stop her. Harry then heard a loud slam of a door closing. Next Ginny and Molly screamed at anyone there until Teddy started to cry, which pissed Tonks off as she kicked the two out of Grimmald's Place.
Next Sirius spoke.
"You two can't be thinking of going, right?"
Remus sighed. "Yes Sirius, we are going. I know this is all a mess but we are Lyra's family too."
Sirius just glared at the couple before he stomped his way to the Black library.
Harry just rubbed his head, gods when did everything go so wrong. In the end it felt like the Order of the Phoenix lost.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fred took another sip of the Fire Whiskey as George was slumped next to him in the after hours of their shop.
Fred has not been the same since the Battle of Hogwarts, he almost died there but he lived. Because he was saved by someone and it was Persephone, his sister. He remembers waiting for death to claim him when nothing came as he was on the floor, he looked up and saw Persephone with her wand out towards a dead Rookwood. He stared in shock as she turned to him, she looked so different since the last time he had seen her, she wore a purple robes and her short curly hair now fell all the way down her back, her glasses were also missing. She stared at him before she turned around and walked away, he had tried yelling to her, calling her name but she just walked on.
He had not spoken her name in two years before that, forbidding anyone from mentioning her. The last time he spoke to her George and he called her so many bad names; evil, a bitch, ugly, and a Snake's Whore when they found out she started dating Marcus Flint. Their mother didn't stop them, said nothing but glared at Persephone when she ran out of the house. No one had seen her since, at first their father was angry, saying Persephone was still his daughter but their mother had convinced their dad in some way and the matter was dropped.
The only ones who were pissed off at the family was Bill and Charlie. When they found out there was a huge fight until both his older brothers left and he remembered being so shocked that Bill and Charlie chose Persephone's side, he had placed the blame on her again.
Bur after the battle, George and him had done a lot of reminiscing of Persephone and their relationship with her. Before she had been accepted into Hogwarts, Persephone was just bossy but the things that she hounded them to do were childish thing that made them both wince. Brushing their teeth before bed, to go to bed on time so they would not be tired, telling them to not go near the group of gnomes that were in the yard that day. It broke his heart to remember how Persephone was the one who handled them, always could tell them apart, and gave her whole attention to even if she would make them read afterwards. Their mother was busy with Ron and Ginny, practically babied Ginny that Persephone would give her time so they would not feel neglected.
But when she got into Slytherin, they felt betrayed. How dare she be a snake? Not only that but she had fitted in to a degree, it had never occurred to them that Persephone was just trying to get by. No, all they saw was their sister becoming a slimy snake, a future dark witch.
Gods, Fred wishes he could take it all back but he can't, George and him hurt Persephone more than their mother could.
Fred sighed as he leaned his head down on the bar, until a page from the Prophet caught his eye.
He grabbed the paper from a man who was more sloshed than both him and his twin combined. His eyes stared at the face on the paper.
The Flint Family welcomes their newest treasure, Diana Flint.
Born April 6,1999 to Lord Marcus and Lady Persephone Flint.-
Fred and George just read the article of the baby's weight and all that but it was the picture that shook them both to their core.
The picture was of their sister in a long lavender dress holding a baby wrapped in white blankets. She had curly brown reddish hair, but she mostly looked like Persephone.
But was really made both twins almost faint was the sight of the two on either side of her chair, both looking the same, Flint's hair but their sister's eyes. They found their names, Fabian and Gideon Flint, ages three.
The picture moved as the boys stared at their sister in wonder, smiling at Persephone and Flint had one arm on Persephone and the other rubbing the boy closest's hair. But the look Flint gave to their sister tore into Fred and George, it was full of love and their sister returned it.
Merlin they had two nephews and a niece, all this time they were uncles. But could they be called uncles if they had disowned their own sister?
