Do I Even Like you?
Amity had never understood why people did stupid things and made rash decisions without a second thought. Now she understood. She was currently in her room having just been grounded by her mother. She had just gotten home after running away from Luz after they both confessed how they did stupid things when they were around each other. She was such an idiot! Luz was there with her and they had been having a moment, being vulnerable with each other and opening up to each other, and what had she done?
Run away. Like a coward. She had been so ashamed that when she had gotten home she hadn’t prepared herself for her mother’s reaction to Amity losing her library job and card. Her mother had been livid, she had yelled at her and lectured her and finally grounded her for at least a month. So Amity had been stewing in her room and all she could think about was Luz. Was Luz mad at her?
Was Luz thinking about her? Did Luz even care about their friendship the way Amity did? The worst thing was that Amity didn’t even know why she was hyperfixating on Luz. Everything was all wrong, everything had been all wrong.
Ever since Luz had come into her life Amity had been questioning and doubting everything. Luz had made her realize how messed up she had been to Willow, and how Bosha and all her old friends had been absolute assholes. Luz made Amity feel so… different. Amity hadn't even known she could stand up to her mother until Luz had talked to her about it.
Amity knew that Luz was extremely special to her, but she had no idea why Luz made her feel and act so strangely. Heck, Luz had even convinced Amity to sneak the two of them into The Forbidden section of the library even though Amity had known that Malphus would find out. Luz just had that effect on her.
When Amity was with Luz it was like she was free, free from expectations and with her, Luz, the only person that Amity truly admired and always wanted to be around. Being with Luz wasn’t draining like when Amity was with anyone else, it was refreshing! It made Amity want to spend every second she could with Luz, it was like Luz was an incredibly addicting drug that she couldn’t get enough of. Staring at her bedroom ceiling Amity pondered all these thoughts about Luz and her feelings.
Amity realized that she just couldn’t figure it out! She still had absolutely no idea why Luz was making her think, do, and feel these things. She groaned, pulling herself out of her bed and making her way towards her bedroom door.
Amity had decided that if she couldn’t figure this out by herself, her next best option would be turning to her brother and sister for help. (though she would never admit it out loud, she knew that they would probably be able to help her solve her problem)
As soon as Amity opened the door to her sibling’s bedroom she knew they were going to be more of a hindrance than a help. They were both a tangle of limbs on the carpeted floor. “HEY, Ed and Emira!!”Amity yelled out, still standing in the door frame - not daring to enter out of fear of being trampled by the twins.
Emira was the first one to notice Amity and she quickly stood up and brushed off her clothes and said smartly, “Oh hello dear sister, what can we do for you on this fine day?”. Amity rolled her eyes as Ed, still on the floor, looked up at her waiting to see what her answer to Emira’s question would be. Amity arched one of her eyebrows and replied, “First of all what were you two arguing about that led you to be rolling on the floor?”.
The twins glanced at each other guiltily before Ed said cooly, “Nothing that concerns you dear sister.”, just as Emira blurted out, “Ed stole my concealment crystal when I was about to ask Viney out!”. Amity groaned, how could both of her siblings be so childish yet still older than her. “Whatever, I was doing you a favor. Viney should know the true you before you guys start dating.” Ed said while sticking his tongue out at Emira.
Emira growled and was about to pounce on Ed before Amity decided to take control of the situation.“Stop, this is ridiculous!” Amity said as calmly as she could and used her finger to draw a perfect circle in the air.
The violet circle pushed out an abomination that picked up the twins and set them onto Emira’s bed, then melted itself into goo that Amity stored into her abomination goo bottle attached to her hip. “Now do you two feel like talking about this like civilized witches?”.
The twins quickly nodded and grinned at each other (which meant they were up to something) before Emira spoke, “Okayy Amity, I know you came here for something. What is it, spit it out!”. Her tone was taunting and Amity knew that they were going to tease her for asking them for help, but she was desperate. “I have a problem… a-and it has to do with Luz.”, She admitted and the twins immediately perked up, both their interests had peaked. “Oh Mittens, why didn’t you tell us! Come on Ed we’ve been preparing for this.”, Emira said, grinning at Ed.
Ed nodded solemnly and they both got up off the bed quickly. Emira guided Amity towards the rug on the floor next to their vanity and had her sit down there, while she went to get some supplies. Ed sat down on the vanity’s seat and grinned at Amity. Amity narrowed her eyes; she had absolutely no idea what the twins were up to, but she didn’t like the mischievous glint that was in their eyes. Once Emira returned, she sat behind Amity and Ed said, “So Mittens, what’s up with Luz?”. It was an innocent question but Amity could tell Ed thought he knew what had happened. She sighed, it wasn’t like there was anyone else Amity could go to talk about this to so she gave in and told the twins everything that had happened.
She finished by saying, “I just… I don't understand what’s going on. I mean one minute I feel fine with Luz, and the next I feel like I’m crossing some invisible line and she’ll hate me.” Emira had been combing and brushing her hair the entire time Amity had been talking and it had actually been relaxing, while Ed had been nodding and listening to her.
Once she had finished Ed grinned once again and spoke matter of factly, “Mittens, my dear sister, you have a crush.”
