Her roommate wasn't particularly weird, just very curious about absolutely everything, that's the only way yooyeon could describe seoyeon after only a month of knowing each other.
The first week was just way too awkward to the point that both girls decided it's better to not even look at it each other, seoyeon out of embarrassment and yooyeon well, for the well being of her heart. The second week? It was more normal as both of them accepted the fact that they were now roommates and will be for a whole year and that they have no other choice but to learn and live with each other's presence. Third week? Seoyeon's embarrassment completely washed away as she started trying to have conversations with yooyeon no matter how much the other girl was unresponsive.
And now a month later, no matter how much yooyeon tried to ignore the noisy human roaming around the room and keep the conversation as short as possible her roommate thought otherwise as she keeps asking questions and then answering them herself. For a moment yooyeon even thought the girl was actually just talking to herself but out loud. She was wrong, when the room suddenly went still and she lifted her head from her papers she saw the other girl looking at her with hopeful eyes. She didn't want to be rude and tell her that she had as background noise for the past 10 minutes so she just replied.
"okay."
And maybe the little cheer seoyeon let out was worth it even tho she still didn't know what the girl really said but yooyeon felt a little warmth fill her chest, a warmth that she'd like to think she didn't mind but oh god how she did.
"it's a date then."
"huh." her neck might've snapped a little too but that was all she could utter. She didn't even hear seoyeon and now the girl decided it was a date? What the hell.
"the new café down the block? You just agreed to go with me tomorrow no?"
"oh."
Well she doesn't know how to feel about this really, she had plans of starting on some new uni work tomorrow, and even tho she made it clear that nothing will ever distract her from focusing on school now that she got this far, looking at the girl in front of her she couldn't take her words back.
"okay but when?"
It was hard not to be disappointed, being asked out on a date from no one other than your cute roommate wasn't a problem but what was is that the supposed date was in fact a friends meet up and you are just the new mysterious comer who let herself in.
And that's exactly how yooyeon felt when she entered the café with seoyeon and saw two people already waiting for them, nakyoung and xinyu, seoyeon's friends and even tho she would've been silent even if it were just the two of them, yooyeon went completely silent, other than introducing herself, or more like seoyeon introducing her, yooyeon sat on her chair looking out the window for the past ten minutes, she also knew that the other two girls were giving her looks, might be judgmental or curious she couldn't care less, one thing she knew for sure is that she regretted it, regretted agreeing to seoyeon's date but also regretted not paying attention to the girl while she was talking.
Seoyeon noticed, seoyeon always notices, it's really annoying how much she notices, how easily she can read people even if they didn't know that. And looking at her roommate right now after her friends left she knew the girl was definitely spacing out and have been for at least 30 minutes. And now that they are alone and the girl still didn't look at her seoyeon was pretty sure she might even be asleep with her eyes open but when she tapped yooyeon's shoulder and the girl suddenly jumped she knew she in fact wasn't asleep.
She looked annoyed, pissed even that's how seoyeon can describe yooyeon's face right now.
"what." Well that's cold.
"nothing I thought you were asleep."
"well no I was waiting for you to finish your little meet up with your friends so I can finally go back to the dorms and do something useful." that wasn't the answer seoyeon really expected.
"my friends left over 10 minutes ago and you were spacing out through it all to even notice, you can go back to your dear dorm miss kim."
call her stupid but she was getting pissed. There was no reason for yooyeon to be this mad at her, is this what she gets for trying to make the girl breathe something that isn't the scent of old book? Really?
"fine."
And with that yooyeon left her there. Alone in a café that she thought could help both of them breathe some fresh air and maybe get a little closer. Seoyeon wasn't really the emotional type neither was she the type of person that will get mad over a situation like this but in that moment she felt nothing but anger, at herself for not considering yooyeon's feelings and at yooyeon for not considering her feelings.
As she left the café she knew this rage shouldn't last and that both of them just needed to talk it out but how? Now that yooyeon was obviously pissed and knowing the girl for a month now, seoyeon knew she wasn't the type of person to open up, so having a mature adult conversation was kind of impossible but what can she do? How would she fix it?
The rest of the day was particularly awkward as both girls ignored each other when seoyeon got back to the dorm. And as the days passed, one, two, three, a week, as much as seoyeon tried to ignore the growing distance between them that she worked hard on building for the past month, she couldn't.
Even tho back when they first met yooyeon was so closed off, so distant, seoyeon was very curious about the girl that when she finally managed to make her talk seoyeon was over the moon and seeing all her hard work crumble because of a little fight? Can you even call it a fight? She felt like shit. That is the best way to describe how she have been feeling for the past week. And her friends noticed, of course they did.
"okay, are you alright girl?" that was the first thing she heard from xinyu after a week of their fight and she couldn't hide it anymore.
"no, I feel like shit." and that's how nakyoung showed up out of nowhere. Where the hell did she even pop out from? what?
"what happened tell us, omg." great now it's gonna be their daily topic until seoyeon fixes whatever she and yooyeon got going on.
"that day we met at the café, when you guys left, me and yooyeon kinda had a fight." There it was. Out in the open and now they will start trying to come up with all type of solutions for her to fix it in one, two, thre-
"you guys have to talk it out-"
"maybe get her something as an apology gift and sort it out-"
"yeah that's a good idea, make it a rose too-"
Bingo.
She knew them too well, after all those two have been her friends since middle school, this was their usual way of dealing with things and it's somehow always the same ideas? Really even after 7 years they hadn't come up with any other ideas? But of course she was gonna listen to them anyway because that's what she always does, her best friends knew best.
That day as she was heading back to the dorm, she saw her.
Yooyeon was standing there, in front of their dorm's building looking at her feet waiting, for something or someone, with a rose in her hand and seoyeon didn't know how to feel about it because why would she even care? Yes she wanted to fix the little misunderstanding they had and yes her heart might have skipped a beat at the sight of yooyeon and yes she might also have a rose in her backpack she bought to give to yooyeon but that doesn't mean anything and it absolutely doesn't mean that yooyeon was waiting for her because if she was she'll be waiting in their room not here, outside.
As she was spacing out, too engrossed in her mind, seoyeon didn't notice that yooyeon moved or that she was standing right in front of her, looking at her straight in the eyes.
"here." She handed her the rose. Huh?
"what is this for?" she didn't mean to sound this confused but oh god how she was. Why was yooyeon giving her a rose all of a sudden after giving her the silent treatment all week long?
"an apology gift." okay seoyeon wasn't expecting that. Wasn't expecting yooyeon to be the one to apologize first especially not with a rose in her hand.
"listen I'm sorry for last week, I was...I was just tired and then you asked if i wanted to join you, to check out the new café and I wasn't even listening and then I agreed. And I'm sorry for not listening as well but yeah...I didn't know you were bringing your friends either so that pissed me off and then you acted like there was no problem that you bought them along without telling me so I just let my anger out on you and then I remembered I wasn't the one listening in the first place and it made me feel guilty. Also this whole week it's been....boring, not hearing you randomly talking in the room was weird too. I'm sorry it took me this long to apologize, seoyeon."
Okay that was beyond what she expected, a sorry was all she needed to hear not a whole explanation and also this is probably the most she has ever heard the other girl talk in one breath and that kinda left her impressed. As she took her backpack off her shoulder and opened it and got her own rose out, yooyeon was surprised, it's funny seeing her usually serious face look like this and seoyeon couldn't help the giggle that escaped her, and as she collected herself, she looked back up at yooyeon.
"I'm sorry too, for not telling you that I was bringing them over, and not considering your feelings too. And not annoying you and talking to you for a whole week was really very hard too. I'm sorry again. I really didn't mean it, here." while handing the rose to yooyeon she couldn't stop the whole hearted laugh that escaped her lips this time as the other girl looked so...shocked and beautiful. Wait what?
"thank you." and as yooyeon smiled seoyeon couldn't help the fast beating of her heart.
Why was yooyeon hiding that beautiful smile of hers under that mask, a mask that even tho made her look hot. huh. Hid too much of her, hid a person with a story that seoyeon was so curious to know of.
Smiling back, both girls entered the building, both feeling lighter, it's like a heavy burden have been lifted off of them and they both couldn't help the smile that crept out as they entered the room and seoyeon asked what yooyeon wanted for dinner. They were back to normal, even tho they still barely knew anything about each other, this little misunderstanding managed to make them closer instead of breaking them apart. And as much as both girls had their own goals when they got to college one is achieving hers while the other is trying hard to ignore the butterflies in her stomach and the fast beating of her heart as she tries to focus on what she thinks is her only way to a better life, school.
