found you
The world reeked of petrichor, as the clouds exhausted themselves of all tears as the last droplets covered the grassy terrain with mud, depressed into the Earth.
Humidity stung the air, taunting the inhabitants with the eternal stain of tears that befell the skies.
A singular soul walked along an aimless path, with only the sound of squelches beneath her feet from the clag that she wedged her footsteps into. Her maroon coloured dress seemed to camouflage and blend her into the surroundings; her once vibrant mauve hair dulled to a mere nude lilac.
But the youthful soul that danced in her eyes with every glisten of joy she had expressed in her past, had also bid adieu.
Soulless eyes, in a soulless world, full of soulless dreams. That’s all everyone knew now, for a gleaming light, prime during the vesper hours, had too, whisked away. For no one knew where she had gone.
Jeanne didn’t even register footsteps that had followed her own, mimicking her every step, but distinct in its lack of monotony. It sound carried colour, akin to a young soul, unafraid of the treacherous journey of life.
A voice emerged from the being behind her.
A voice that felt grating to hear.
A voice that made her want to pluck her ear canal out.
A voice she recognised.
“Did something happen?”
For a second, she wanted to continue walking on and pay her no mind, but her feet prevented her from taking another step and grounded her. All she could do was stand, her back turned to the annoyingly condescending mouthpiece she was ready to sock in the jaw.
The lack of sound around her couldn’t possibly hide what she heard next.
A shuffle.
Not just one, but two.
And then another.
And another.
Until she felt a sensation that seemed foreign, but at the same time, overfamiliar enough that made her both uncomfortable and secure.
It was an embrace.
A snug yet embarrassingly mediocre embrace from behind.
The spirit behind her lay her head comfortably resting her chin onto Jeanne’s collarbone, transferring any warmth on her cheeks onto the witch’s neck, with the rustle of her choker adjusting itself. Her arms were wrapped around her abdomen, pulling her not too tightly but enough where Jeanne’s back was grazing Pandora’s front.
The two stood, comfortably, yet the twinge of awkwardness was damn near electrifying. If they spent any longer like this, they’d scorch the air from how cumbersome this was.
“You’ve been gone awhile.” Jeanne broke the uncomfortable silence.
“Did you miss m—“
The last syllable couldn’t escape her mouth as her view suddenly flipped upside down. But everything else was upside down, so that meant..
Jeanne threw Pandora onto the ground, heaving her from behind her, ripping herself from the embrace. The sheer force of her back hitting the ground, ripped a cry out of her, as her body flipped from being heavy and hollow, all within the span of a second.
“GHH—“
The witch kneeled to her level, staring at her with a level of animosity that Pandora, nor anyone has ever seen before. If her eyes were dull before, they’d be blazing with the intensity of a thousand suns. Her face contorted into a scowl, resentment painting every crevice of her face and body language, to boot.
As soon as her head stopped spinning, the ebony-haired source of hatred looked at Jeanne quizzically.
“Why did you fling me onto the ground like that?”
“You had it coming.”
“..Is that all?”
Jeanne paused.
“..No.”
Jeanne drove her fist into the side of Pandora’s head, and another, and another. Each punch seemed to carry more weight each time.
One punch cursed her for taking advantage of her.
Another yelled at her for constantly bothering her.
Another screamed for her to quit acting so weird.
With each repeated swing, Pandora’s body flung further and further, as her face felt like burning ice, as each hit seemed to impact her just as the swelling began.
Jeanne kept at it, until her arms were too exhausted to carry itself.
She kept at it until she couldn’t even feel the rage anymore.
She could only muster up one last blow.
And this is for disappearing!
She didn’t need to say anything, but the silence following after spoke volumes. Now the air was pervaded with sounds of heavy breaths and nothing more. Pandora lay on the ground, chest heaving, but with satisfaction plastered all over her face.
You’d think getting brutalised would make you second guess, but no.
“..I think,” she exhaled, “I think.. I got that out of my system..”
“You think?” Pandora retorted, which only granted her a quick thwack on the head.
“…can we get married now???”
“OH MY GOD BAE SUREEEE”
and the two got married and ran off into the sunset and lived happily ever after together
