Chapter 6
“Did he really knock out Adolf Hitler over 200 times?” One of the men asked.
“Not really. But he was forced to either be a performer or a lab rat.” I said, leading the men out of the prison.
We explode out of the doors. My HYDRA gun ripping through the agents while the rest of the men raced around claiming their own HYDRA technology. I join the redhead and the man who had asked if Steve knew what he was doing in one of the many HYDRA tanks.
“Hey. It’s not exactly a Buick.” The redhead said.
“That one. ‘Zündung.’” The other said.
“Zündung?” I asked. The redhead hit the button.
“Get this thing going, Dugan!” An Englishman shouted as he hopped in.
“I didn’t know you spoke German.” Dugan said to the other man, while the Englishman took up position at the gun.
“Three semesters at Howard, switched to French, girls much cuter.” The German speaker replied.
“Come on lets move it! We need to get out soon!” I snapped at them.
“Who are you anyway?” Dugan asked.
“Kandace, Kandi, Emerson, otherwise known as Rosie the Riveter partner of Captain America. And you all are?” I reply.
“Gabe Jones. This is Dum Dum Dugan and that is James Falsworth.” The African-American said.
“Right. Dum-dum get this tank to the fence. It’s the only thing tough enough to push it over.” I told Dugan.
Dugan nodded and revved the engine allowing the tank to aim straight for the reinforced fence. I stood up back to back with Falsworth and began to shoot any HYDRA soldiers. My aim wasn’t horrible but it would definitely need some work seeing as I only hit a HYDRA soldier 4 out of every 10 shots. We had just begun to knock the fence down when the factory behind us began to explode.
“Shit! Get this hunk of metal over that fence, Dugan!” I snapped. I pushed off of Falsworth, launching myself out of the moving tank and into the midst of the freed, fighting POWs.
It took Dugan almost two minutes to knock over the reinforced fence. As soon as I saw the fence go down, I began to rally the remaining POWs and had them collect what injured we could before leaving the compound with seconds to spare. We reached the edge of the forest when the rest of the compound went up in flames. My heart clenched inside my chest, twisting in pain. Taking a deep breath, I centered myself before turning to see that the POWs were all watching their prison go up in fire.
“Alright men! I will lead you all to where the Captain and I landed. We will wait there for the Captain and any others. We must use this time to treat the injured and create transportation for them.” I called out. I had a feeling that most wouldn’t follow or acknowledge my lead but at least those near me seemed to be more inclined to listen to me and lead the group.
“Oi! Listen up Retards! We’re going to follow Miss Rosie to the meeting point!” Dugan yelled. I nodded gratefully to him before beginning to lead the way towards our agreed meeting spot.
