Chapter 1
"You're not seriously thinking of casting her too, are you?" Jayce, Caitlyn's agent, leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowed in disbelief as he stared at Mel, the director. The office walls seemed to close in around them, the air thick with tension.
Mel, unfazed, tapped her fingers against the script. "Caitlyn and Vi are the perfect fit for the role. The chemistry between them will be explosive on screen."
Jayce scoffed. "They can barely stand each other. You'll have more luck mixing oil and water than getting those two to work together."
Mel's eyes gleamed with excitement. "That's precisely why I want them. The tension between them is palpable, and if we can harness that, it'll be pure gold for the audience. Besides," she leaned in, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "it's a risk worth taking for the sake of this story."
Viktor, who had been standing next to Mel, finally spoke up. "They're both incredibly talented, Jayce," he said, his tone measured and soothing. "And it's not like they won't have support. We've got an amazing cast lined up, including Sevika, who I've heard is quite the charmer. She'll be sure to keep them in line."
Jayce's gaze flicked to Mel, then back to Viktor. "And what makes you think they'll even agree to this?"
Viktor shrugged. "Just lie," he suggested, his voice a nonchalant whisper. "Tell them they're auditioning for separate roles, or that the other's already signed on. We can sort out the details later."
Jayce's eyebrows shot up. "You want me to lie to Caitlyn?"
Mel nodded, her expression earnest. "For the sake of the movie, yes. If we can get them both on board without them knowing about each other, we might be able to capture something truly special."
Jayce sighed heavily, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Alright," he conceded, "but if this blows up in our faces, you're dealing with the aftermath." He couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at the deception, but the promise of a cinematic masterpiece was too tempting to pass up.
Meanwhile, across town, Ekko sat in his office, scrolling through emails on his phone. The news of the potential casting had reached him, and he knew exactly what he had to do. He picked up the phone and dialed Vi's number with a grin.
Vi, drenched in sweat and punching a heavy bag at the gym, paused mid-swing to answer. The gym's loud bass-filled soundtrack pounded in her ears, muffling the conversation. She grunted a hello, her breath coming in ragged puffs. "What's up?"
"Vi," Ekko's voice was tight with excitement, "Mel's got a new project and she wants you in it."
Vi's fist stopped mid-air. "Seriously?" she said, breathless. Mel was a legend in Hollywood, known for her uncanny ability to create iconic films with powerful female leads. Her movies were the kind that didn't just entertain, they made a statement.
Ekko's enthusiasm grew. "It's a blockbuster script, action-packed with a twist of romance. You'd be playing the lead, with Sevika," he lied.
Vi's interest piqued, she leaned against the gym's punching bag, catching her breath. "Who else is in the cast?"
Ekko paused, weighing his words. "Well, there's a couple of big names in there," he said, choosing to omit Caitlyn's involvement for now. "But the script is tailored for you, Vi. Mel sees something in you for this role that she can't get anywhere else. Trust me, this could be your chance to break out of the action mold and show everyone your full range."
Vi's heart raced at the prospect. Despite her tough exterior, she craved the opportunity to dive into a complex character that wasn't just about the fight scenes. She knew that Mel's film would demand more than just her physical prowess, and she was ready for the challenge. "Alright," she said, a hint of excitement in her voice. "I'm in."
Ekko felt a twinge of guilt as he ended the call, knowing he had left out the most significant detail. He had promised Mel to keep Caitlyn's casting a secret until it was too late to back out. He knew the rivalry was silly, and deep down, he believed that Vi and Caitlyn could not only co-exist but create something amazing together. It was a gamble, but one he was willing to take.
On set, the first day of filming was a whirlwind of activity. Crew members scurried around, setting up lights and cameras while the cast mingled awkwardly. The air was electric with excitement and nerves. Vi, dressed in her character's costume, felt the weight of the script in her hand. She had studied it obsessively, eager to prove herself.
Mel, the director, approached her, a warm smile playing on her lips. "Vi," she said, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. "I am truly grateful for your agreement on this."
Vi nodded, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach. She had read the script cover to cover, and she knew that her character's journey would be intense.
Mel, a seasoned director with a knack for emotional storytelling, had crafted a tale that revolved around two fiercely independent women, forced together by fate. The plot was a complex dance of irritation, betrayal, and burgeoning attraction that would challenge Vi to the core.
"Thank you, Mel," Vi said sincerely, her powder blue eyes meeting Mel's. "I'm really looking forward to this." She meant it. This wasn't just another blockbuster where she'd be the token lesbian action hero; it was a chance to delve into a nuanced narrative that resonated with her own experiences.
Mel chuckled softly, her gaze drifting towards the door where Caitlyn was expected to arrive any moment. "Oh, I know you are," she said, her smile hinting at the impending drama.
Vi walked over to Ekko, who was standing by the craft table, sipping on a cup of coffee. He looked up and raised an eyebrow when he saw the script in her hand. "Ready to show them what you've got?" he asked, his tone teasing.
"More than you know," Vi quipped, trying to keep her nerves at bay. She had always been one to rise to a challenge, and this was the biggest one yet.
As Jayce approached, the air grew thicker with tension. Jayce's nervous smile didn't go unnoticed by Vi, who had a keen eye for reading people. She knew something was up, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Jayce was known for his smooth demeanor, so the unease was out of character.
"Hey, Vi," Jayce called out, his voice echoing through the vast set. "So, Mel wanted me to make sure you're all set for the first scene. Your co-star is just running a bit late."
Vi raised an eyebrow. "Co-star?" she repeated, feeling a sudden knot in her stomach. "Do you mean Sevika?" She knew Jayce wasn't Sevika's agent, and the way he was avoiding her gaze was telling. Her eyes darted to Ekko, who was suddenly very busy with his phone. "What's going on, Ekko?" she demanded, her voice edged with suspicion.
Ekko took a deep breath and looked up, setting his coffee down. "Vi," he began, "there's something you should know." He paused, and the set grew eerily quiet. The only sound was the distant buzz of a camera being prepped. "You're co-star isn't Sevika."
Vi's eyes narrowed, the knot in her stomach tightening. "Who is it, then?" she asked, her voice a mix of curiosity and irritation.
In an almost comedic timing, the door swung open, and in strutted Caitlyn, her navy blue hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail that bobbed slightly as she moved. She wore a tailored outfit that clung to her lean frame, hinting at the intensity of her character. Vi's heart skipped a beat as their gazes locked, the electricity between them palpable even across the bustling room.
Jayce looked between them, his smile faltering slightly. "Surprise," he said, his voice barely carrying over the sudden hush that had fallen over the set.
Caitlyn's eyes widened, and she froze in her tracks. She had no idea that Vi had been cast in the role opposite hers. The script she had been handed was filled with scenes of passionate conflict and tumultuous chemistry, and the thought of sharing those moments with Vi was... unsettling. But she had signed the contract, and she was a professional. She took a deep breath, straightening her shoulders and striding towards them.
Vi's hands tightened into fists at her sides, the anticipation of their inevitable confrontation making her palms sweat. She had spent years avoiding any situation that could lead to a face-to-face with Caitlyn, but here she was, about to embark on a movie that would force them closer than ever. She could feel the weight of the room's attention on them, like a spotlight shining down on their shared tension.
"Congratulations on the role," Caitlyn said, her British accent as sharp as a knife. Her tone was polite, but the ice in her voice was unmistakable.
Vi, completely ignoring Caitlyn's forced politeness, turned to Ekko with a palpable anger. "Seriously? Is this some fucking joke?" she snarled, her eyes flashing. The muscles in her jaw tightened as she clenched her teeth.
Ekko held up his hands, palms out. "Look, Vi, I know this isn't ideal—"
"This isn't ideal my ass!" Vi bit back, her grip tightening on the script in her hand. The pages crumpled slightly under her tension. "You knew about this, and you didn't say anything?" She glared at him, her fiery spirit igniting into a full-blown inferno.
Ekko sighed, knowing he had crossed a line. "I did it for the movie, Vi," he said, his voice calm but firm. "I know you're both talented, and I believe this will be epic."
"Talented?" Vi echoed, her voice laced with skepticism. "Or you just wanted to stir the pot?"
Mel, sensing the brewing storm, quickly intervened, her assistant Viktor right beside her. "Vi, Caitlyn, we're all professionals here," she said firmly, her voice carrying the weight of authority. "I cast you two for a reason. Your chemistry is undeniable, and I know you both can deliver performances that will blow audiences away."
Caitlyn's jaw clenched, her piercing blue eyes never leaving Vi's. "Professional," she repeated, her voice low. "We can be professional." It wasn't a question; it was a statement of fact. She knew that Vi was a formidable opponent in every sense of the word, and she wasn't about to let her personal feelings get in the way of their shared craft.
Vi, on the other hand, wasn't having it. The room felt like it was closing in on her, the pressure building with every passing second. "You expect me to just pretend like we're not at each other's throats?" she spat. "To kiss her, to love her, when we can't even be in the same room without tearing each other apart?"
Mel's gaze flicked between the two women, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Chemistry is chemistry," she said, her English accent smooth as silk. "It doesn't always have to be roses and rainbows."
Viktor, who had been quietly observing the unfolding drama, finally chimed in. "Plus, your roles start off on a rivalry," he pointed out, his tone a blend of amusement and pragmatism. "It's perfect. The tension between you will be real, raw."
Jayce, ever the mediator, stepped in. "Look, I know this isn't ideal," he said, placing a hand on Caitlyn's shoulder. "But think of it this way: the more you hate each other, the more intense the love story will be when you finally get together."
Vi scoffed, rubbing her hand over her face. "That's easy for you to say," she muttered, her eyes not meeting Caitlyn's. "You're not the one who has to pretend to love someone you can barely stand."
Caitlyn's gaze remained unflinching, a hint of challenge in her icy stare. "You're an actor," she said coldly. "Aren't you?"
Vi's eyes narrowed, but she knew Caitlyn had a point. This was their job, and if they were going to do it, they would do it right. "Fine," she said through gritted teeth. "But if she so much as looks at me the wrong way on set, it's on."
The tension in the room didn't dissipate, but it did shift. Mel nodded, pleased with their reluctant agreement. "Excellent," she said. "Now let's begin filming. We've got a lot of work to do."
