STORY

On a faraway planet, a group of Autobots and Decepticons are fighting over a piece of the All-Spark, which has been shattered a long time ago, and both groups are starting a hunt for the shards.

Megatron and Optimus stand against each other, Megatron mockingly call Optimus ‘old friend’. During the fight, the young Autobot scout Bumblebee grabs the shard, as Soundwave cuts him off and tries to send him in a portal. At the same time at mission control, the Autobots open a portal as well, the two portals crossing. It creates a single unstable portal and a handful of Transformers are sucked in before it closes.

On Mobius, Sonic, Tails and Amy finish off a final mission, and contact the remaining Freedom fighters, whom are on their own missions, they meet back at Knothole.

Tails’ tracking device picks up an energy signature though, and while it is not Chaos Energy, it is powerful. The trio agree it is worth checking out and make way for it. They find the All Spark Shard though don’t know what it is, but makes Tails’ devices go haywire. They realize it is powerful and should not fall in the wrong hands.

The trio are confronted by Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream. The trio mistake them for Eggman’s newest robot and fight them. The three are more powerful than any Eggman mech they eve fought. However, the Decepticons in question find the three smaller organics to be tougher than humans too thanks to their greater speed and unusual abilities (Sonic’s super speed and lightning, Tails’ smarts and flight and Amy’s magic). Sonic says ‘we kind of have experience kicking giant robot butt!’

Sonic, Tails and Amy use a Power Ring, to get a boost in power. They have the Decepticons on the ropes, but Megatron uses a reluctant Starscream as a shield to absorb most of the damage. To his dismay. Afterwards Megatron blasts the trio hard enough after their boost runs out to knock them down, knocking a Chaos Emerald from Sonic’s person, which they pick up. Megatron has Soundwave scan it and verify that while not an All-Spark fragment it is incredibly powerful, which the Decepticon leader finds interesting.

Before the Decepticons can finish off the dazed heroes, Optimus, Bumblebee and Elita arrive on the scene and fight them off. Team Sonic doesn’t know what is going on but the newcomers seem enemy of the Decepticons and that makes them allies. As they recover and join the fight, Megatron knows its best to retreat as they are outnumbered. Soundwave uses his Sonic device to whip up a dustcloud to cover their escape.

The three Autobots introduce themselves, and so do Team Sonic. Tails says he has a workshop close by on Cocoa Island where they can regroup and exchange notes.

The three Decepticons are mad they didn’t get the All Spark fragment but the Chaos Emerald seems to be a good substitute. They just need to see what it can do. However, they need to find a base, and they spot a factory. At the factory, they find a chapter of the Eggman Empire, the local Grandmaster asking the trio if they are the newest of Eggman’s Master Robots but Megatron vaporizes him and orders the Legionnaires and Badniks to offer them fuel as refreshments as they take over. The minions won’t have to be told twice.

Eggman though becomes aware of the Decepticons and warps in, joined by Sage and Snively.

On both Eggman and Sonic’s side, they hear from the Cybertronians their half of the story. On how Optimus and Megatron were known as Orion Pax and D-16, they were miners whom got involved in an adventure that exposed how their leader was in reality a tyrant working with an old enemy of the Cybertronians, and how they went on a quest to bring back the power to transform to their people. But among the way D-16 fell to darkness, killed the tyrant and became the next warlord to try and conquer Cybertron.

Sonic and his group explain how Eggman, aka Ivo Robotnik was once an inventor in the service of the court of their home, the Acorn Kingdom, but betrayed them, took over and spread his conquest worldwide. In the past he roboticized people, but that has been rendered useless and now he turns people into cyborgs to serve him.

They exchange info about the All Spark, which was the spark of Cybertron and gave life to Cybertronians, and the Chaos Emeralds, whom are powerful relics that turn thoughts into power. The fact that Megatron has one of the latter, doesn’t bode well if he is as bad as Eggman.

Eggman makes an alliance with the Decepticons, whom have faced Sonic and like him grew to dislike him and his group. They will work together to obtain the All-Spark fragment. Megatron provides his own Energon and some Vehicon specs with which Robotnik can whip up something.

On the heroes side, Tails starts to tinker with a device as she studies the All-Spark fragment. Bumblebee is impressed that Tails is able to figure out so much about the fragment from a first glance.

Bumblebee admits they ended up on Mobius because of his mishaps, he called in the portal as soon as he got the fragment to try and get it away as fast as possible, but forgot about how crossing two portals would cause problems, and this world ended wrapped up in their war while they have their own to fight. Optimus and Elita don’t blame him, but he blames himself. And how he disappointed the two people whom gave him his wonderful life, whom have been like siblings or parental figures for him, from just being stuck at garbage incineration to being one of the faces of the Autobots. But he felt he hasn’t lived up to that.

Tails notes he felt the same. Sonic and Sally Acorn were his older siblings and sort of parentals growing up, not having been able to get to know his missing parents. He looked up to them and wants to fight beside them. But he felt he is in their shadow, and needs to live up to them. At times he had done great things, but he had less proud moments because he doubted himself. Sonic and Sally never hated him for it. Sometimes to do something good, you have to do something wrong to learn from and grow.

Amy and Elita talk about Sonic and Optimus, and how they would follow them everywhere. Elita says Sonic reminds her of Optimus when he was still Orion, a bit of a cocky dude with a rebellious attitude whom jumps into things. Before Orion got on her nerves but after being dragged into his adventure and seeing his growth as a person, a warrior, into someone wise, kind and worthy as a leader…she is happy to be by his side.

Amy notes Elita must really like Optimus, more then a friend. She knows because she likes Sonic too. Though his heart belongs to another and wishes Sonic’s happiness. But he is still dear to him and as a friend and a fellow Freedom Fighter, she would always be beside him.

Sonic and Optimus talk about the burdens of being a hero, and how they lost a lot in their respective wars. Optimus says he misses the friend he had in D-16 before he became Megatron. Sonic notes that he wasn’t able to save some of his friends either, can’t always be fast enough. But he can’t linger as he thinks of the ones he managed to save and focus on that.

Optimus says that maybe he would have done things differently if he had another chance. But while he has some regrets, what he doesn’t regret is liberating Cybertron, breaking down the barriers between classes and allow any Cybertronian to choose their lot in life, not have it determined for them. While the fight with the Decepticons continues, a lot of good has still come from it. Sonic says a world where anyone can choose to be whom they want, their best version without a tyrant at the helm taking that away, is also something he fights for.

Megatron and Robotnik have a moment of sorts too. Robotnik tells that either in his home nation the Overlands and the Acorn Kingdom he was subservient to rulers whom were unworthy and how he wants to create order on his world. Similarly Megatron says that his old friend still holds on to the bygone era of the Primes, and as proven with the tyrant he killed he can’t allow that to perpetuate even if he has to kill his old friend to have his vision come to pass.

Starscream and Snively are both discontented with their service to their respective masters and plot.

Sage plays with Soundwave’s drones Laserbeak and Ravage, whom seem to like her and Soundwave is a bit surprised they take to her so quickly.

The Autobots and Freedom Fighters try to contact reinforcements, but the other Freedom Fighters are either too far away or still wrapped up in their own missions. Luckily Tails was able to use the All-Spark fragment to upgrade his scanner and develop a small device that may be able to do damage to the Decepticons, though doesn’t have more time to do anything else.

They detect three Cybertronian signatures at a nearby Eggman facility and realize that they may have teamed up with Eggman. However, they can’t be allowed to keep the Chaos Emerald so they have to go in.

Having used Megatron’s Energon and specs, Eggman created hybrids made of Badnik and Vehicon technology. He dubs them Badnicons, to dismay of Megatron. At least it’s better then ‘Egg Vehicons’ or ‘Vehiniks’. Eggman and Megatron activate signals to both take control and turn them on one another. Then Starscream and Snively hijack the signal with their own devices. But Sage and Soundwave come in to block the signal…which leaves them all at a stalemate. They all agree to first deal with the Autobots and Freedom Fighters and then see what they do afterwards.

The Freedom Fighters and Autobots try to sneak in the facility but they are ambushed by the new Badnicons. They do well until the Decepticons come along, alongside Eggman, Snively and Sage controlling Egg Mechs. The Egg mechs are upgraded with Vehicon tech and the Decepticons carry devices with Chaos Energy from the Emerald that give them new powers.

The heroes are initially overwhelmed, though they put up a good fight. Tails tries using the All Spark fragment in the device, but it doesn’t work as well as it should. Megatron taunts the fox saying an organic like him could never use it to the fullest, it is better in the hands of  Cybertronian. Optimus says to his old friend that its one thing that the Autobots and Decepticons war, but they dragged innocents into this. Megatron says anyone, Cybertronian, organic or otherwise in the way of his plans are his enemies, no exception.

Bumblebee is restrained by Starscream whom brags about the Chaos Drive that gives him power, while Snively’s mech restraints Tails. Bumblebee remembers how thoughts are turned into power using Chaos Energy, it is something beyond comprehension like the All-Spark shard. Bumblebee and Tails share a glance and nod in agreement. Tails and Bumblebee taunt Starscream and Snively until they lose their tempers, with them being able to slip out of their grip, Bumblebee stabbing Starscream’s Chaos Drive, as Tails flies onto Bumblebee, the Chaos Energy charging up the All-Spark shard.

Tails uses his mind to guide the All-Spark/Chaos energy, dismantling the Badnicons and turning them into weapons for the Autobots and create mech armor for the Freedom Fighters. Using this, they are able to fight the bad guys on a more even level.

Optimus fights Eggman in his mech. He gives him a breaking speech about how he reminded him of Cybertron’s old tyrant, whom killed the benevolent Primes, claiming that he can create a better world btu in the end did it to satisfy their own ego, and died alone and sniveling like a coward. Eggman is no better. Eggman attacks him in a rage, but Optimus uses that anger against him and quickly dismantles his mech.

Megatron is fighting Sonic, the latter whom taunts him with his usual snarky comments as well as him being an awful hero, a fallen hero. Megatron cannot stand the disrespect and tries to blow up Sonic. Sonic sneaks past his attacks, hits the Chaos Drive on Megatron, absorbs its energy and lands a few powerful homing attacks to defeat him. Sonic is like ‘Told you breaking bots is my dayjob!’

Tails and Bumblebee confront Snively and Starscream, whom try to fake surrender before launching a sneak attack, but they are easily anticipated and defeated as a result. The two yellow heroes look at each other and ask ‘Do they really think we aren’t wise to their tricks at this point?’

Amy and Elita fight Soundwave and Sage. Elita begs with Soundswave, as during the war against Sentinel Prime they were allies and comrades even for a short while, he doesn’t have to go along with Megatron’s madness. Soundwave acknowledges their past as allies but that is long gone, he stands with Megatron, whom is the best for what Cybertron needs. Amy meanwhile tries to reach out to Sage, saying that Robotnik doesn’t have what’s best in mind for the world. Sage points out the adventures on the Starfall Islands, but Amy says that alliance was more about having a planet left to conquer rather then genuine heroism. Sage refuses to hear anything against her father. Though Amy and Elita best Sage and Soundwave.

The heroes stand over the defeated villains. Optimus says the Decepticons to surrender, come along with them, put the war behind and rebuild Cybertron together. No more madness. Megatron of course refuses. Sonic says he offers no such thing for Eggman, he is going to stand trail for his crimes and pay.

Eggman says he will not be taken, he will blow the brains out of every Legionnaire if he is taken. Sage asks her father if he really would throw all his troops away like that. Eggman acknowledges it may be a waste. So instead he put the factory to self-destruct and warns the hero types they would save everyone in the factory. After all while some Legionnaires willingly joined, some were innocents forced into it, and the Badniks still have innocent creatures trapped inside. As he covers his and the Decepticons’ escape, the heroes focus on saving everyone inside the factory.

In the aftermath, the heroes managed to get everyone out in time, the have both the Emerald and the All Spark fragment. However, their upgrades wear off and crumble into scrap. Elita bemoans the fact the villains got away, but Optimus says saving the Legionnaires was the right thing to do, which they acknowledge. And they have the All-Spark fragment and the Chaos Emerald, so it is not a loss. Sonic says it felt too low-scale for a final battle against Eggman. He fat bastard would either meet his end after an event where the world is at stake…or a heart attack, whichever comes first.

The Legionnaires are confused at the heroes’ selflessness. Sonic says he and the other Freedom Fighters work to save them all, to stop them from being Eggman’s puppets and live their own life. He knows not all of them willingly work for Eggman. If after they are freed they still want a piece of him and his friends, their choice. The Legionnaires thank the heroes and leave. Optimus says to Sonic that whatever equivalent his species have for a spark, his shines bright.

Optimus and Sonic also praise Tails and Bumblebee for their quick thinking. Bumblebee asks if it makes up for his blunder earlier. Optimus says that he and Elita never held that against him. Sonic just gives his best bud a noogie and a big congrats. He knew he had it in him. Amy and Elita look upon the interactions with fondness.

The trio of Mobians take their new Autobot friends to New Mobotropolis where they meet the other Freedom Fighters, whom also returned from their own mission and are briefed. Sally just gives a fond smile and says ‘I can’t just leave you alone for five minutes, can I?’

Tails says that he’ll find a way to have the Autobots return home, but he needs to create a Warp Ring big enough for them to all go through. The Autobots say that they can’t go back as long as Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave are still running free on this world. Nicole, the AI of the Freedom Fighters suggest hijacking a satellite to call in the other Autobots. Because as much as they didn’t wish, both their wars have now become one and the same. There are still Chaos Emeralds out there or similar artifacts that the Decepticons and Eggman want to exploit, and the same with any All Spark shard now they see what it can truly do. So both teams formalize their alliance.

Eggman has managed to obtain an armor piece broken off during the fight with Team Sonic and the Autobots, which has a tiny spark of lingering all spark energy left and thinks he has just enough to complete one, maybe of his projects. He pulls up blueprints for the newest model Metal Sonic, as well as a new project called Project: Nemesis.

The Decepticons remain aligned with the Eggman Empire for the time being as they have the most resources. Though they know the alliance won’t last as neither Eggman or Megatron want to share. As Sage is shaken by Amy’s words and Eggman’s callousness to kill his troops, Megatron says that while it is wasteful it was a good strategy to get the heroes to stand down. Soundwave also was shaken and asks if Megatron would ever do the same, sacrifice his troops to assure a victory? Megatron asks if Soundwave questions him. Soundwave apologizes and drops it, even as he realizes Megatron never gave a proper answer.

Though Soundwave also hijacks a satellite, one of Eggman’s. Now both the Autobots and Decepticons call upon their fellow Autobots and Decepticons to come to Mobius to continue the war, and the stakes have changed.

On a distant plant, among the Autobot and Decepticon camps, Arcee and Shockwave (both in absence of Optimus and Megatron) rally their respective factions to head to Mobius).

Trivia

  • The recent Sonic Movie and Transformers One allowed me to finally get this entry going.

  • Like with the Miraculous/TMNT crossover, I start off with a small cast, though I up the ante with each chapter.

  • I picked Sonic/Tails/Amy in contrast to Optimus/Bumblebee/Elita-1 due to their color scheme and genuinely thinking they would make a connection as mentioned during the story. I left out Knuckles because he is still out guarding the Master Emerald and would have less reason to be around unlike Amy, whom is part of the Freedom Fighters of the Acorn Kingdom.

  • Tails uses both the T-Pup form the Archie comics and the Buddybot from Sonic Boom.

  • While mostly Transformers One inspired, the shattering of the All Spark is inspired by Transformers Animated.

  • While they won’t be the only Autobots and Decepticons that exist in this universe or we see, the ones I mentioned invoke the lineups from the Prime and Animated cartoon.
