Place In This World (Buffy Summers)
Buffy was done.
She was tired of everything. She was tired of being strong, of being responsible. She was tired of having to be everyone’s best fucking friend and being there for people who didn’t really care. How could they? They were never there and understanding for her and her problems.
She was tired of having the fate of the world on her shoulders and she had finally decided enough was enough.
Let her friends and bratty sister bitch, they were the ones who started this.
The first thing she did after driving the bus to LA and getting all the baby slayers situated, was call her frantic father. Despite what everyone thought, she knew he still cared. Her mother had threatened him into staying away from Buffy and Dawn because she wanted them solely independent on her.
The bitch had put it in her journal that Buffy had found after her second death.
She met him at the diner he had always taken her and Dawn to when they still lived in LA. He had yanked her in a hug, thanking the heavens that she was alright.
Thankfully the place was deserted so she was able to tell him everything from her calling the destruction of Sunnydale. By the end of it all, they were both crying, and he was promising her he would help her start over.
That night, she stayed at his place and they gotten to work. She had always loved the sunny California weather but didn’t want to stay here. Her father had a friend who lived on the beach in Florida though, and was ready to help her set up a place. He also had her enrolled in a local university, so she could finish her schooling in a place where there were little to know monsters.
Knowing Willow’s hacking abilities as well as she did, it was easy for them to conclude that her booking a plane ticket would be too obvious and too easy for the Wicca to track down. Instead, they bought her a nice new truck that allow her to drive across the country to her new life.
The next day, he took her shopping, letting her buy whatever she wanted. As gifts, he bought her a new diary, a new guitar, and a new locket and packed them in her truck, so she could leave the next day.
That night, she went back to the hotel and was met by the Scoobies yelling at her for disappearing. It was all she could do to hold her tongue as made her way to her room to grab the few things she brought with her from Sunnydale.
Mr. Gordo, the cross Angel gave her when they met, her scythe, Angel’s leather jacket that she stole before he left, her photo album, and her Claddagh ring were all she took. She wrote a letter to Angel with a promise to call with her new address if he kept her whereabouts a secret and showered before going to bed.
The next morning, she showered and left the room before most of the others were up. Faith met her in the lobby and she handed her Mr. Pointy. “Keep them in line, Faith. I’m done.”
Her sister slayer smiled and took the stake. “I don’t blame you. I trust the big man is the only person you let know where you’re heading?” At her nod, the brunette smirked. “I’ll make sure he knows where we end up. Please call or write when you’re ready?”
Buffy nodded. “Take care, Faith.”
Faith smiled and shook her hand. “You two, B. I hope you find what you’re looking for.”
With a final smile, Buffy left the hotel.
She met her father a few blocks away and gave him a hug. He handed her a new phone, begged her to call when she reached Florida, and let her go.
She hopped in the truck and started it, pulling out of the drive and headed off, ready to find herself.
She was done. She was no longer the Chosen Slayer. She was just Buffy Summers, a normal girl who was looking for where they fit in.
And she felt better than ever.
She was finally free.
