We‘re in!
Raven's pov
Since Abby and Kane's departure four days ago, Sinclair and I have been trying to find something about Mount Weather in the databanks of the ark that we can use to win this war, but have only found things about the founding and history; nothing useful.
At the moment I'm going through another bunch of useless data when someone comes in.
„Rae?" I don't have to turn around to know it's Octavia. „What's up, O? Weren't you due to watch the radio?"
„Yea, I was, but something happened with the radio..." At that I do turn around. Octavia seems to be more distressed than I have ever seen her before. „What happened?"
She avoids my gaze, fiddling with the hem of her shirt. „I didn't do anything, it just started making that weird noise and won't stop." I'm on my feet and start walking towards the room with the radio before she even finishes her sentence.
She's right; that weird sound really didn't stop while she went to get me and it's so loud, I can hear it several steps away from the closed metal door. Nope, that's definitely not normal.
I tried to fix the radio for two hours now and I'm still no bit closer to solving the problem. No matter to what channel I switch, there is always that weird signal.
I'm close to giving up for the moment and make a break when I finally find a cleat channel.
„Emerson? Are you there?" A male voice reaches my ears and stops me in my little celebration.
„Yes, I'm here. What is it, Sargent?" Another man.
„Cage wants you to come back. It seems like that blonde savage chick is of use after all." Fuck. I can't believe it. I'm actually listening to fucking Mount Weather. And who are they talking about?
„It's about damn time. Did he say if she's the solution to our problem?" Problem? What problem?
„I don't know for sure, but he was a little bit less psycho than usual, so I guess it's really good."
„Great. Tell him I'm on my way and will be there in about three hours."
„Will do. Over and out."
As soon as the radio falls silent, my feet carry me at top speed back to the workshop. When I pass Octavia, I only shout to her over my shoulder to not let anyone change anything on the radio and to always make sure that either she or Sinclair are listening to it and write everything on paper.
I rush through the corridors and soon crash through the door to the workshop. „Raven, is everything okay? I just wanted to go find you."
„Hey, Sinclair. Sorry, yeah, everything's okay, great, everything's great. I found something." His features immediately light up. „That's why I wanted to go get you. I found something too."
„What did you find?" I'm still out of breath and could use the little pause on my part to regulate my breathing.
„I went through the archives again and found a part where we hadn't looked before. There, I found a whole plan of the mountain. Every little detail about the use of the dam to generate power, where it is put to use, and the structure which includes the location of the entrances."
By now my mouth is agape and my brain runs on full speed. There it is: the solution to our problem. Which reminds me that I still have to fill him in on what I have found.
„That's great, Sin. You know how I had to go fix the radio earlier?" I wait for a nod before I continue. „I found exactly one channel that works and it is used by Mount Weather. We can listen into their conversations and from what I could hear, they have a problem and some grounder could be their solution. Also there is a guy named Cage that is psycho or something like that. I have to get to the grounder camp immediately, so, yeah, keep up the good work."
I don't wait for an answer afore I bolt out the door to search for one of the grounders that came here a few days ago, to get me to their camp and the commander.
Lincoln's pov
The past few days (or is it weeks?) have been pure torture. Slowly all my memories flooded my mind and the pain of the withdrawal tested my limits to an excruciating extent. Now, I feel like myself again, albeit I somehow wish I wouldn't. I wish my mother had killed me instead of trying to safe me. All the memories of my time in the mountain came back to me, mixed with older ones, and now every night those memories haunt me. Each night, I'm back in Mount Weather and each and every night, I wake up screaming and sweating.
What they did to me and mostly what I did will haunt me for the rest of my life and I wish my mother would have shown mercy. She didn't know what exactly happened, but I on my part don't know if I am strong enough to live with those images playing out in my mind.
I've been given a second chance I never wanted, however, I will at least try to live a bit. I owe it to her, so I get up, despite the exhaustion I'm feeling, and make my way out of the healer's tent.
Abby's pov
The past few days were full of planning what we could with the little information we have and occasionally tending to some of the warriors who went a little too hard in training. Of course, I still checked on the man, Lincoln as I found out later, and brought him back to full physical health.
He seems more exhausted every time I see him, but sadly I can't do anything to help his mentality. Whatever he went through clearly weights heavily on his mind.
Given his mental state in the last couple days, I was quite surprised to see him leave the medical tent this morning. I was happy to see him at least try to resume to his life, therefore, I didn't confront him about it, scared I would say something to make him rethink his decision and go back into the tent.
So I just watched him create more and more distance to the tent until he was out of sight.
Watching Lincoln, a son to the war chief, Indra as Lincoln called her once when I was looking over his wounds, get up and work on resuming into his normal life made me once again think of my own child. I know she build herself a life down here, without me, and can‘t stop playing out scenario after scenario. What will she say? How will she feel?
Will I even see her again?
No, I can‘t think like that. I will see her again. I have to.
Thankfully, my train of thought is disrupted by Raven‘s voice. Wait. Raven?
„Abby? Abby, thank god, there you are. We need to get to the commander immediately. I have news.“
Without waiting for a response or even for my brain to catch up with what‘s happening, she‘s off again, sprinting in the direction of the commander‘s tent.
Finally hurrying through the tent flaps, I‘m immediately dragged to the middle of the tent in front of the throne by my arm.
„So, Reivon kom Skaikru, will you let me in on what you found out about Mount Weather or will I have to wait for another ten minutes.“ The commander‘s voice is steely and a shiver runs down my spine, even though I‘m not on the receiving end of her cold gaze.
„Yes, of course. Commander.“ Raven throws a nervous glance to me before continuing. „Sinclair found a plan of the mountain in our databank. Also…“ another nervous glance. „I could hear in on a conversation between two of the mountain men.“
The commander’s expression turns from devoid of any emotion to attentive. „Explain.“
„They are jamming our signals, that‘s why I‘m here and didn’t just call in on the radio. I worked on the radio for two hours until I found a channel that worked. That channel is used by Mount Weather and therefore, I could listen in on a conversation between two men, Emerson and a Sargent. The Sargent told Emerson to get back to the mountain because some psychopath called Cage asked for him. They talked about a grounder that might be the solution to their problem, but they didn’t say what problem they have.“
„Did they say who the grounder is?“
Raven looks a bit confused at that question, but answers nonetheless. „They didn’t say a name, but called her, and I recite, a „blonde savage chick.““
„Anya.“ A woman I didn’t see before walks a few steps out of the shadows at the side of the commander‘s throne. „Take a group of ten warriors and see if you can cut the maunon off. I want him alive.“
„Sha, Heda.“ With a respectful bow, the woman, Anya, walks out of the tent, no doubt to get the warriors and fulfil her mission.
After Anya has left the tent, the commander gets out of her throne, walking so she‘s standing right in front of us. „Where are the plans, Raven?“
Even I can see Raven gulp afore she answers. „I wanted to tell you as fast as I could, so I left without them, but I will go and get them immediately. If I go now, I could be back before sundown.“
The commander gives her a nod. „That was a good decision. I will get a tent set up for you, so you can rest once you‘re back with the plans and get back to your camp first thing in the morning. I will send a messenger with you now, so if there are any news, he can deliver them quickly.“ With only a flick of her wrist she dismisses us.
The message to me is clear: rest as long as you can. Soon we take the mountain.
Soon. Hang on, Clarke, I will get you out of there. I promise.
