Strange but true, Evan had nothing to complain about at the moment
This one sentence alone would have given both Remus and Pandora a heart attack, because Evan had a degree in complaining about anything for any reason.
He wasn't particularly spoiled, quite the opposite in fact, but he used complaining as a means to solve every problem that life posed to him.
In any case, nothing had gone wrong today: the customers were all polite and kind, the bar supplier had arrived on time and had even received generous tips, all things that lifted up his humor and allowed him to see his long shift in a different light
While deciding what music to play to create a light and cheerful atmosphere in the coffee shop, he saw two girls come in and look around: the first one had platinum blonde, almost white, hair and was wearing a sweatshirt a few sizes too big and flared jeans, the second one instead had her hair, black as pitch, tied in many little braids and she wore a short, loose-fitting shirt and low-waisted jeans
"Hello, welcome to the Oblivion Bar . I'm Evan and I'll be your server today, how can I help you ?"
The blonde girl studied him for a second and it took him everything he had not to squirm under her hard gaze, fortunately her friend noticed and gave her a light elbow in the stomach to make her stop
"Hi Evan, I'm Dorcas and the one beside me it's Marlene !! A friend of mine, his name is Barty, I don't know if you remember him, came here not so long ago and he recommended us to come here if we were ever in the area,so we're curious to see what's so good.
What do you recommend we take? "
Evan was a little confused not knowing who the Barty they were talking about was, but not wanting to let it show, he nodded.
"Well I'm glad your friend enjoyed himself here at the coffee shop.
For your breakfast I would recommend a pomegranate muffin with white chocolate chips, a small pastry filled with salted pistachio and caramel.
As for drinks, I would recommend a ginger and lime tea and a coffee with cream and a splash of cocoa sauce "
The blonde girl, Marlene, studied him again before breaking into a grin
"You don't know who Barty is,right? I can tell by your face !! Anyways it doesn't seem like a bad breakfast, what do you think, love?"
Dorcas , who looked like she was trying not to laugh in Evan's face, nodded quickly before answering
"It seems like a great breakfast Marls, can we take it to go?"
Evan looked at both of them, realizing first of all that they were a couple and secondly that he should definitely already know this, apparently famous, Barty
"Well, I'm sorry but I definitely don't remember him, a name like his would be hard to forget .
Anyway, I can definitely do this to go and your total would be £9.50"
Dorcas shook her head smiling, only briefly glaring at Marlene as she took out her wallet to pay
"You'll have to excuse my girlfriend here, tact is not one of her best features.
We are just surprised ,considering how much he talked about this place, that he never told you his name !!
Oh god after the third time he talked about it I thought he had already signed up his life at this coffee shop. "
Evan took the money that she was handing him before putting them in the register and starting to make their order
"Don't worry about it,there is a high possibility that he told me his name and I just forgot about it; generally the coffee shop is not quiet and if I am alone I tend to block everything from my mind.
Here's your order, I hope you have a great day !!"
Marlene laughed while taking the bag with their order in it
"I worked as a server for a while so I really understand what you're saying, some days i would come home from work and I wouldn't even be able to tell dorcas how my day had been because i had spent the whole time being dissociated.
Anyways, thank you and we hope you have a great day too."
As she said this, they were leaving the coffee shop and Evan watched them go, hand in hand, with two sly smiles on their faces
Evan sighed, having just found something to complain about, because he had never felt more single than he does now
It wasn't unusual for couples to come to the coffee shop together, but Evan would often let Remus handle it in the hope that seeing so many happy couples would have given him the courage he needed to declare himself to Sirius
It hadn't worked yet but Evan was nothing if not stubborn
Not even thinking about Remus and his stupid crush on Sirius, could distract Evan from that itch that Marlene's teasing had created in the back of his head.
Although he had joked about it with the girls, Evan actually possessed a wonderful memory for names: one of those talents that never really comes in handy except on occasion, but still he could not remember for the life of his who this guy was.
He sighed shaking his head, if he really liked the coffee shop, then he would definitely come back one day and when that happened, Evan would finally have the chance to connect the name to a face
