Mugging Gone wRongIGHT?
Semi looked down at the address and then looked back up at the abandoned motel in front of them. Was the guy a squatter or something? How did they even find him? The idea that even if they vanished off the face of the earth, Mr. Jeongsa would find them sent a chill up Semi’s spine. Subong ran up towards the door and tugged at it. It didn’t budge.
Subong kicked the door. “STUPID FUCKING SON OF A WHORE ASS DOOR!”
In the distance, Semi could hear footsteps. “The alley, run!”
Subong sprinted past her as Semi ran towards the alley. There was a loud thud and the sound of two men shouting. In the alleyway, Subong had a middle-aged man pinned to the ground. The man thrashed about and shouted as Subong pressed him into the ground.
“GIVE US THE EIGHT MIL.” Subong shouted at the man.
Semi walked over and squatted near the man, looking into his eyes. She pulled out the taser, and the man’s eyes widened in fear.
“I don’t have the money! I don’t have the money!” The man shouted over and over.
“Seong Gihun?” Semi asked.
The man swallowed and stared at her. “I told him, I’ll have the money soon. I just need a little longer, my luck’s about to turn; I swear.”
Semi sighed and rolled her eyes. “Everyone always says that, and everyone is always wrong. Do you have kids?”
The man nodded. “A daughter.” He stammered.
Semi clenched her jaw. “And do you want to die and leave your daughter in debt? Do you want your daughter to have to deal with people like us?”
“No.” The man muttered.
“How much do you have?” Semi asked.
“800k.” He whispered.
Subong shoved the man’s face into the ground. “We need eight mil.” He growled.
The man pushed his head back up, a trail of blood dripping from his nose. “I don’t have it, please.” He begged.
Semi exhaled. “This isn’t going anywhere.” Semi looked up at Subong. “Check his pockets and see how much he has.”
Subong patted the man down and pulled out a wallet. He tossed it to Semi as the man tried to push him off. “Stay.” He commanded.
Semi opened the wallet and thumbed through the bills. Two million. Semi fanned out the bills. “There’s two million in here. So, uncle, I’ll ask once again, how much do you have?”
“That’s all I have! I swear! I must have miscounted.” The man answered.
“Do you have a job?” Semi asked.
The man shook his head. “I was fired recently.”
Semi threw the man’s wallet down by his face. “Get one, you’re too old to be doing this. Do you have a place to stay?”
“No.” The man muttered.
Semi sighed and tucked 500k back into the man’s wallet. “Find a job and a place to stay. And get that 6.5 million. Don’t miss any more payments or worse people will find you then me and him. Do it for your daughter, okay?” She tucked the money into her jacket pocket.
The man nodded vigorously.
Semi swatted Subong’s shoulder. “You can let go of him.”
Subong got off the man and stood near Semi. They stood and watched the man snatch up his wallet before scurrying away. They started to walk back towards the street.
“What are we gonna do? We only got-” Subong paused and counted off on his fingers. “1/4th of what Big Man asked.”
“Less.” Semi corrected. She pursed her lips. “I don’t know, but what are we supposed to do? He didn’t have the money.”
Subong groaned. “Why’d you give him back some of the money?”
Semi stared at a discarded bottle in the road. “He didn’t have a place to stay. I’m not a monster.”
Subong patted her on the back. “You’re too good for this world, baby.”
Semi rolled her eyes. “I thought we talked about this. Don’t call me baby.”
Subong bowed. “Sorry, señorita.”
Semi chuckled. “Stand up.”
Subong giggled and walked in front of her, arms spread out. “Beautiful señorita, nice to meet-cha, super baddie hard to beat-cha.”
Semi snorted and rolled her eyes. “Where’s the drop? We’re fucked, but we’ll be more fucked if we don’t get the money to him.”
Subong shrugged. “I dunno.”
Semi pulled out her phone and called Namgyu. The line rang before going to voicemail. Semi sighed and called again.
“Fuckin hell, bitch. Some of us have real jobs; I can’t just text on my phone all day at work like you.”
Semi scoffed. “Spare me. And this is important: where are we dropping the cash?”
Namgyu huffed. “Just bring it by the club.” And he hung up.
Semi threw her arms up and stared at Subong. “We’re going to the club, come on.”
☺
The club was in full swing by the time they got there, and the two of them stood out in their casual wear.
Semi tugged Subong towards the alley that ran along the back of the club. “Let’s go in through the back, they won’t let us in dressed like this.”
“They would.” Subong replied.
Semi sighed. “Okay, fine, maybe they would. But it’s not worth the hassle, plus, I’m morning shift again tomorrow, and I’m supposed to go in early for stocking.”
“Fine. We hit it from behind.” Subong giggled.
Semi rolled her eyes. “H a h a, you’re soooo funny.” Semi knocked on the back door. She elbowed Subong. “You call Namgyu this time.”
Subong reached into his pocket, his eyes widened as he frantically patted around. “Where’s my phone?”
Semi replayed the earlier events in her mind. Oh. “You never picked it up when we left.”
“Oh.”
She pulled out her phone again and called Namgyu. No response. She tried again. No response.
“Hey, you kids aren’t supposed to be back there.” A voice shouted.
They turned around to stare at a bouncer walking towards them.
“We know people here, man. Fuck off.” Subong shouted back.
The bouncer chuckled. “Sure.”
Subong crossed his arms. “Do you know who I am, man?”
The bouncer smirked. “Who?”
Subong struck a pose. “I’m a legend, Thanos.”
The bouncer paused before bursting into laughter.
Subong scowled. “What’s so funny, man?”
The bouncer grabbed Subong’s arm. “Come on, Thanos.”
Subong yanked his arm away. “The fuck you grabbing me for?”
While Subong argued with the bouncer, Semi was banging on the door.
“Miss, stop banging on the door.” The bouncer commanded.
Semi stared at him and raised her eyebrows. “Don’t you have better things to do than yell at a washed-up celebrity and his bodyguard?”
Subong spit at the bouncer. “Yeah.” He turned to Semi. “Wait-”
The bouncer wiped off his face and glowered at them. “I’m calling the po-”
The door swung open, and Semi dragged Subong inside and slammed the door in the bouncer’s face.
Namgyu glared at Semi. “Serio-”
Subong hugged Namgyu. “Namsuuuuu!!” Subong patted Namgyu’s back. “Thanks, man.”
Namgyu smiled and patted Subong on the back.
“Who do we give the money to?” Semi asked.
Namgyu started to walk towards the private rooms. “Come on.”
