Summary
You pass away on your birthday, and Lena has a hard time dealing with it.

You groan a bit as Kara drags you into the 9th store that day. “Come on Kara….I’m tired and sleepy. I just want to get home to sleep” Kara had asked you to the mall that day, and you had agreed to go with her but you didn’t realize just how long she was planning on keeping you out.

That day, Kara had one important mission, to keep you out of your house for as long as possible. “okay, how about we watch a movie?”

“A movie? Kara…I just want to sleep” you groan as she smiles and pulls you along.

“it’ll be fun don’t worry, if you get bored, you can fall asleep, alright?”

Kara flashes you an encouraging smile as she leads you out of the store. "Just a little longer," she says, her eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. You sigh, feeling the weight of the day dragging at your heels, but you follow her anyway.

As you navigate through the bustling mall, Kara chatters on about the latest trends and the new store openings. Her energy is infectious, but all you can think about is sinking into your soft bed and drifting off to sleep.

"Let's grab some ice cream!" Kara suggests suddenly, pulling you towards the food court. You can hardly resist the thought of a sweet treat, so you nod, and soon you're both sitting with your cones, people-watching as the afternoon sun filters through the glass ceiling.

"Okay, I have to admit, this is nice," you concede, licking your ice cream. Kara beams, clearly pleased with her success in keeping you out and entertained.

"See? It's not so bad," she teases. But as the hours tick by, the ice cream gives way to window shopping, a quick stop at a bookstore, and even a visit to a quirky gadget shop.

By the time Kara suggests checking out a new arcade that just opened, you're done. "Kara, seriously, I can't take another step. I need to go home."

She pouts a little but doesn't argue. "Alright, let's head back”

Grateful, you finally make your way to the parking lot. The drive home is a blur, and you can feel the anticipation of rest pulling you into a gentle lull.

As you reach your house, you're surprised to find the lights on and a few cars parked outside. "Did someone break in?" you wonder aloud, frowning. But as you unlock the door and step inside, you're met with a chorus of voices shouting, "Surprise!"

The room erupts in cheers and laughter, and you find yourself surrounded by your friends, all grinning from ear to ear. Balloons and decorations fill the space, and a banner hangs overhead that reads "Happy Birthday!"

Kara appears at your side, looking smug and pleased with herself. "You really thought I'd drag you around all day for no reason? Happy Birthday!"

"I mean...yes I did think that" you admit as Lena walks over and hugs you at that.

"I'm sorry Darling, that's on me. I asked Kara to keep you distracted while we got everything ready." She gets her arms around your neck and kisses you at that as you let out a small chuckle and smile.

"I'll forgive you...but only because you're so cute" you kiss the tip of her nose and Lena laughs softly at that before stealing a small kiss and lets you go. "Lets go enjoy this night with everyone, alright?"
With a playful grin, Lena leads you further into the room, where your friends and family eagerly gather around. The atmosphere is filled with warmth and excitement, and you can't help but feel grateful for the effort everyone put into making this day special.

Kara is already at the snack table, loading a plate with treats. She catches your eye and gestures for you to join her. “Come on, try these cupcakes! I helped decorate them,” she says with a wink.

You chuckle and make your way over, letting Kara hand you a cupcake topped with colorful frosting and sprinkles. “Wow, you really went all out,” you say, taking a bite. It’s delicious, and you nod appreciatively. “Okay, I’ll admit, this was worth the day out.”

Kara beams with pride. “See? I told you it’d be fun!”

Lena joins you, a glass of sparkling cider in hand. “I’m so glad you’re enjoying yourself,” she says, her eyes softening as she looks at you.

You squeeze her hand, touched by the gesture. “I’m really lucky to have you guys.”

As the night unfolds, laughter and chatter fill the room. Kara challenges everyone to a friendly game of charades, and her over-the-top gestures have everyone in stitches. Lena, with her sharp wit, excels at guessing the clues, and you find yourself laughing harder than you have in ages.

“Okay, okay, my turn,” you announce, stepping up to take the stage. Your attempt at miming a famous movie title leaves everyone guessing wildly, and when Kara finally gets it right, the room erupts into cheers.

Later, as the evening winds down, Lena and Kara surprise you once again with a heartfelt toast. Kara raises her glass first. “To one of the best friends anyone could ask for,” she says, her voice full of sincerity. “Thank you for being such an incredible person. We’re so lucky to have you in our lives.”

Lena follows, her gaze locking with yours. “To the love of my life,” she says softly, her words wrapping around your heart. “You always make my day brighter, and I could not picture my life without you”

Touched by their words, you blink back tears and lift your glass. “To all of you,” you say, your voice full of gratitude. “For making today unforgettable. I couldn’t ask for better friends..”

As the party begins to wind down, you find a quiet moment to sit with Lena and Kara, reflecting on the day. The room is filled with the comforting hum of conversation and music, and you feel a deep sense of contentment.

After it gets rather late, everyone is either leaving our completely passed out in one of your couches or bedrooms. You walk over to Lena and grab her hand before leading her to the fire escape. You looked up at the sky for a moment before you look back at her. "...you know...tonight...it was an amazing party... I don't know if I could have asked for a better day" you grab her hand and place a light kiss on the top of her hand.

Lena smiles softly at your words as she takes in the happiness on your face. She gently cups your cheek, brushing her thumb across your skin. "I'm so glad," she says, her voice a small whisper in the quiet night. "I wish I could give you the world….but a party with your closest friends was the only thing I could muster."

You lean into her touch, feeling the warmth and sincerity in her gaze. The soft glow of the city lights reflects in Lena's eyes, and you can't help but fall in love with her all over again. "You went above and beyond, Lena," you say, wrapping your arms around her waist. "I know how much work you put into this, and I appreciate every little detail."

Lena laughs gently, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear. "I had some help," she admits, glancing back at the party's remnants. "Kara was a great co-conspirator, and everyone else pitched in to make sure everything was perfect."

You nod, smiling at the thought of Kara's boundless enthusiasm and the support of your friends. "I’ll have to thank everyone tomorrow."

Lena’s expression turns more serious, and she takes a deep breath, her hand finding yours again. "There's something I wanted to tell you tonight," she says, her voice steady yet filled with emotion. "Being with you has been the best part of my life, and I can't imagine spending my future with anyone else."

Your heart skips a beat, and you tighten your hold on her hand. "Lena..."

She smiles softly, her eyes shining with love. "I can't wait to call you my wife," she continues. "And I promise to always support you, love you, and make every day as special as today."

Overwhelmed with emotion, you pull Lena into a gentle embrace, your heart full of love and gratitude. "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, too,"

You stand together for a moment, wrapped in each other's arms, the world around you falling away as you savor the moment with her.

After a while, you both pull back slightly, sharing a small and quick kiss. "Let's head back inside," Lena suggests with a smile. "We still have a lot of leftover cake to finish, and I'm pretty sure Kara will get to it if we don’t."

You chuckle, nodding in agreement as you take Lena's hand, right when you’re about to step inside you feel a sharp pain in your chest for a moment. Shaking your head you try to ignore the feeling and walk back inside as you look around a bit as you start getting tunnel vision. 'what's...what's going on?' you try to call out for Lena and Kara but it's as if they can't hear you.

You stumble, your vision narrowing to a pinpoint as the pain in your chest intensifies. The room blurs around you, and you try to call out for Lena and Kara, but your voice seems to fade into nothingness. You collapse, the last thing you hear being the muffled sound of Lena's frantic voice.

When you open your eyes, the bright, sterile lights of an emergency room blind you momentarily. The chaotic sounds of medical equipment and urgent voices fill the air. You realize you’re lying on a hospital bed, doctors and nurses working frantically around you.

"Clear!" a voice shouts, and you feel a jolt surge through your body as they attempt to revive you.

In the midst of the chaos, you hear Lena's voice, filled with desperation and panic. "Please, let me see her! I need to be with her!"

A nurse tries to calm her, but Lena fights against their grip, her voice breaking. "She needs me! Let me through!"

Kara’s voice joins in, "Lena, you need to let them work!"

You can barely make out their words, your consciousness slipping in and out as the medical team continues their efforts. The doctors call out instructions, their faces grim and focused. You feel another shock, your body convulsing as they try to stabilize you.

"Ms.Luthor, you have to stay back," the nurse insists, but Lena's anguish cuts through the noise like a knife.

"Don't leave me," you hear her cry out, her voice filled with raw emotion. "Please, don't leave me."

You muster every ounce of strength to focus on her voice, your love for Lena anchoring you to the moment. The world around you fades further, the sounds becoming more distant, but you cling to the thought of her, of the life you share, and the future you dreamed of together.

Another shock hits you, and this time, it feels different. There's a warmth spreading through your chest, and your vision clears slightly. The doctors' faces are still tense, but there's a flicker of hope in their eyes.

"She's stabilizing," one of them says, and you feel a faint sense of relief wash over you.

As your heart finds its rhythm again, the noise of the room starts to recede, and the pain dulls to a distant throb.

"Is she... is she going to be okay?" Lena asks, her voice trembling.

The nurse finally lets her through, and Lena rushes to your side, her eyes filled with tears but also hope. She takes your hand, her grip firm and reassuring.

"I'm here," she whispers, her voice cracking with emotion. "I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere."

Kara stands nearby, her expression a mix of relief and worry. "You gave us quite a scare," she says softly, her eyes glistening.

"I...what happened? We were just in my apartment celebrating my birthday" you mumble as Lena and Kara looked at each other.

"your birthday? Darling, you never made it to your apartment...you suffered an accident on your way to your party" Lena said moving a strand away from your face as you look at Kara curiously.

"...I didn’t?"

Kara said. "i'm sorry...i shouldn't have let you drive home by yourself. you were so tired...i should have taken you myself..."

"you couldn't have known, it's my fault for being so stubborn about going home by myself"

Lena kisses your forehead at that. "Lets not talk about this right now, you need rest. And I'm going to stay with you until you feel better"

You squeeze Lena’s hand, grateful for her presence, though the exhaustion starts to weigh heavily on you. The sterile smell of the hospital fills your senses, and the beeping of machines creates a steady rhythm that lulls you into a fragile sense of security.

Kara gives you a gentle smile, her eyes still filled with concern. "I’m going to head home for a bit," she says softly. "But I'll be back first thing in the morning. You need anything, you call me, okay?"

You nod, appreciating her support. “Thank you, Kara. Really.”

She leans over and gives you a careful hug, mindful of the IV lines and wires. "Get some rest. I’ll see you in the morning."

As she leaves, the room feels quieter, and Lena pulls a chair closer to your bed, her fingers brushing softly against your hand. “You’re going to be okay,” she reassures, though you can hear the tension in her voice.

You manage a small smile, but inside, there’s a growing sense of unease. The earlier clarity starts to fade, replaced by a strange numbness creeping through your body. You’re exhausted, and despite the relief of being with Lena, your body feels increasingly heavy.

“Lena, I…” You try to express the strange feeling, but your words come out in a whisper.

She leans in closer, worry etching her features. “What is it, love?”

“I’m just…so tired,” you admit, trying to fight against the pull of sleep. “But it feels different.”

Her brow furrows, concern deepening. “Do you want me to call the doctor?”

“No, it’s okay. I just need to rest,” you assure her, though a part of you isn’t so certain.

Lena stays by your side, her presence comforting as you drift in and out of consciousness. You can feel her thumb rubbing soothing circles over your hand, grounding you to the moment. Yet, as the hours pass, the numbness spreads, and it becomes harder to keep your eyes open or respond to Lena’s soft reassurances.

You hear her humming a familiar tune, something you both loved, and you focus on the sound, trying to hold onto the warmth and love in her voice. But there’s a growing fog inside your mind, a heaviness that you can’t seem to shake.

Lena’s voice fades into the background as your eyelids grow heavier. Her grip on your hand feels distant, and the room begins to blur once more. You struggle to stay connected, to fight against the darkness creeping at the edges of your vision.

“Lena…” you try to call out, but your voice is barely a whisper.

Her gaze snaps to yours, panic flashing across her face. “I’m here, sweetheart. I’m right here.”

But you can feel yourself slipping, the strength ebbing away despite your best efforts to hold on. Lena’s face is the last thing you see as the room finally goes dark, and you surrender to the overwhelming exhaustion, hoping that when you wake, things will be better.

Time passes in a haze of confusion and intermittent awareness. You drift in and out of consciousness, occasionally hearing snippets of conversation, the beeping of machines, and the rustling of medical staff. Your body feels weightless, almost disconnected from reality, but you sense Lena’s presence, her hand never leaving yours.

In brief moments of clarity, you catch fragments of conversations between doctors and nurses, words like “unstable,” “critical,” and “monitor closely.” You want to respond, to let them know you’re still here, but your body refuses to cooperate, leaving you trapped in a silent struggle.

Lena’s voice is a constant, a beacon of hope amidst the uncertainty. She talks to you about everyday things, the way she always does, as if trying to anchor you to the world. Her voice carries love, encouragement, and a promise that she’s there, fighting alongside you.

Despite the deepening fatigue and fading strength, you hold onto that promise, clinging to the hope that you’ll find your way back to her, to the life and love you share.

As you try to cling to your life you can hear Lena screaming out your name when you start to flatline. You had promised to not cause Lena any pain, and yet, here you were hurting her deeply. Trying to muster all of your strength, you try to move your fingers, but they won't obey. While you're trying to move, you realize that you can't feel anything, not one limb from your body, not even any of the equipment that had been connected to you....nothing. At that moment...everything was helpless, if you couldn't even open your eyes how could you do anything else? you weren't even breathing.

You smile a bit remembering that Lena once told you a human body could survive a few minutes without oxygen and that gave you...a little hope. At the very least....you wanted to see Lena one more final time.
You’re caught in a strange limbo, aware yet unable to respond. The world around you seems to slip further away as you flatline, the relentless beeping of machines silencing into a single, continuous note that echoes in the room. It’s a haunting sound, one that signals the desperate truth of the situation.

Through the haze, you hear Lena’s anguished voice. “No, no, no!” she cries out, her voice breaking with despair. You can picture her, frantic and defiant, refusing to accept what the machines are telling her.

Despite the impossibility of it, you concentrate on that sound, willing yourself to move, to respond, to do something. Anything. You feel disconnected from your body, trapped in a void where time seems to stand still.

In the chaos, you hear the medical team, their voices tense yet resigned. "We’re losing her," one of them says, their words heavy with the weight of defeat. "We've done everything we can."

Lena’s voice cuts through the resignation. “Get out of my way!” she demands, her determination fierce and unwavering. You imagine her pushing past them, her singular focus on reaching you.

The room grows more chaotic as Lena fights her way to your side, ignoring the protests of the doctors and nurses. “She’s not gone! She’s still here!” Lena insists, tears streaming down her face.

Her hands find yours, clutching them desperately, and you feel the warmth of her touch cutting through the numbness. It’s faint, but it’s there, anchoring you back to her, back to life.

"Lena," you try to say, but no sound escapes your lips. The effort it takes to form the word is monumental, a battle of will against the heaviness on your chest.

In that moment, you concentrate on a single thought, focusing all your energy on opening your eyes, on seeing her one last time.Slowly, as if pushing through a dense fog, you manage to flutter your eyelids. The room comes into focus, and you see Lena leaning over you, her face distraught with the fear of losing you..

Your heart aches with the need to tell her, to let her know how much she means to you, how her love has been the light in your life. You try to speak, to form the words that carry your love and gratitude.

Your voice doesn’t come, but your eyes lock onto hers, conveying the depth of emotion you can’t express. In your gaze, you hope she can see the words you’re unable to say: I love you. I’m here. I’ll always be with you.

Lena seems to understand, her grip on your hand tightening as fresh tears spill down her cheeks. “I love you, too,” she whispers, leaning closer, her forehead touching yours. “You’re not alone. I’m right here with you.”

The doctors rush back in, voices urgent as they assess the situation. But in that moment, all that matters is the connection between you and Lena.

You feel yourself slipping again, the strength you mustered fading, but you hold onto the warmth of her presence.
Fighting against the heaviness that you feel against you body, you reach out to push the oxygen mask off. She already knew you loved her...she could see it in your eyes and you were sure she had seen it from the moment that you saw her the first time. "....I'll find you again" you manage to whisper softly before your eyes closed for the last time.

Lena’s eyes widen, her heart aching at your words. She leans closer, tears streaming down her face as she grips your hand, unwilling to let go. “don’t leave me…please,” she chokes out, her voice trembling with emotion.

The doctors rush back in, urgency and desperation filling their movements as they try once more to revive you. The room is a blur of activity, the beeping machines and shouted instructions creating a cacophony of sound.

But as the seconds stretch into eternity, the doctors’ efforts slow, and their expressions shift from determination to resignation. The lead physician shakes his head, signaling to the others that there’s nothing more they can do.

“No!” Lena cries out, refusing to accept what’s happening. She pushes past them, her eyes wild with desperation as she begins performing CPR, her hands pressing rhythmically against your chest. “Come on, come back to me! Please!” she pleads, her voice raw with emotion.

The medical team hesitates, torn between protocol and the emotional scene unfolding before them. Kara, having returned just moments ago, stands at the doorway, her face stricken with grief as she watches Lena fight for you.

“Lena,” Kara whispers, stepping forward, tears in her eyes. “You have to let them—”

“No!” Lena interrupts, her voice breaking. “I can’t lose her! Not like this!”

The doctors exchange a look, and one of the nurses approaches Lena gently. “We can’t do anything else, Ms. Luthor. Please…you’ll hurt yourself.”

But Lena is relentless, her hands moving with a fierce determination, willing your heart to beat again. Her own heart shatters with every second that passes without a response, her sobs mingling with the rhythmic compressions.

Eventually, the nurse approaches with a tranquilizer, a sad understanding in her eyes. “Ms.Luthor, I’m so sorry,” she says softly. “We need to help you too”

Kara moves to Lena’s side, wrapping her arms around her in a firm yet gentle embrace. “Lena, please. You have to let them help.”

Lena shakes her head, tears blurring her vision. “I can’t, Kara. I can’t let go.”

Kara holds her tighter, her own tears falling as she whispers, “I know. But you have to trust them. Please, Lena.”

With great reluctance and a heart full of anguish, Lena finally stops her efforts, collapsing against Kara as the nurse administers the tranquilizer. The sedative takes effect quickly, and Lena’s struggles slowly ease as she’s guided to a nearby chair, her heartbroken gaze never leaving your still form.

The doctors and nurses continue their work, tending to you with utmost care and respect. The room is heavy with the weight of what’s happened, a silence settling over everyone as they process the loss.

Kara stays by Lena’s side, her presence a comforting among the grief. She knows that words can’t ease the pain, but the least she could do was to be there for Lena during her loss.

In her unfitted sleep, Lena clings to fragments of your voice and the promise you made to find her. She knew that it wouldn’t be in that life time, but she was sure in the next, the both of you would be together once again.
