Chapter 2
Jaime and Brienne spent a good part of the summer together. He was in love and there was no way of denying it. He adored his children and gave them his whole-hearted attention but when he was with them, he found something missing. He was beginning to wish that Brienne was always there with him. He daydreamed what it would be like to have her with them on outings and soon it become not just outings. It also became what if she lived with us? What if we had a life together and children together? What if we spent the rest of our lives together?
Jaime had sworn to himself after Cersei left that he would just do this alone. He didn't need anyone. Now it wasn't that he needed anyone, he wanted someone and what wonderful thoughts flooded his head day and night. Especially at night when he put the twins to bed and then went to his room alone. He promised himself that he wouldn't introduce the twins to anyone until he was absolutely positive this was long term, he was in love, she was a good person, she would treat them with all the same love and kindness that he did and...they were together at least a minimum of one year.
By the end of the summer, Jaime couldn't take it anymore. Everything felt right. Everything just fit. They just hadn't been together for a year. They hadn't even slept together.
Jaime loved taking her out for romantic evening sails as the sun set. The water was like glass as the sun sank into it. Brienne sat straddled across his lap wearing only her bikini. She could feel him throbbing under her weight. He shifted. "I'm sorry," he said caressing her back. "I am so in love with you, and I want to show you how much I do," he kissed her softly.
"Jaime, I fell for you when you tripped over your own feet walking over to the seat next to me. A whole auditorium with seats but you sat next to me and never stopped smiling at me even after you almost face planted."
His face turned red and he grinned, "So you caught that, huh?"
"I did," she kissed his bare shoulder and stood up, moving to the rail behind her. He walked over to her and put his hands around her waist. She put her hands on the button of his jeans, but he gently took her hands in his. "What's wrong?" She asked.
"This is a bad time to have this conversation, I know. I haven't been with anyone since Cersei. I haven't wanted to. Until now. I was too afraid- I still am. You know, there are consequences to everything. I do not regret having the twins. I couldn't live without them. I know that I love you. I know I would like a future with you. If you'll have me someday." He moved her hair from her eyes.
"What?" She whispered in disbelief.
"I'm serious!" He declared.
"I would have you. I'd have you today. I mean...I know that's not what you meant."
"No, I...I love you. I love you, so much. I know it seems too soon and this is just crazy," he pulled her into him. "I promised myself that whenever I met someone, I wouldn't let them meet the kids until we were together at least a year. But I find myself thinking of you...24/7, and I am dying to show them off to you, and I am dying to show you off to them."
"I've been so anxious to meet them."
He pulled away to look at her, "Why didn't you tell me?" His smile was wide as the bay they sailed.
"I wanted too so bad. But I didn't want to push. I wanted you to take things at your pace. I know it's hard for you with the babies, they have to be your priority, and I respect and accept that. But they are adorable babies, and I'd love to play with them." She smirked.
"Really?"
"Yes! But Jaime, realistically. I accept everything about you and if it means waiting to meet them until you're ready, then I will wait until you're ready. When you think they're ready."
He kissed her. They didn't make love that night - they did everything but. His hands and his tongue caressed every part of her. They took their time. They enjoyed every ounce of each other, every shiver, every moan, every caress. Thier smiles only faded when they fell asleep in the moonlight.
They made up their minds that this was it. They were together and nothing was going to tear them apart.

After a lunch date, Jaime drove Brienne back to his place. Well, it was Tywin Lannister's mansion, but it was so large that Jaime and twins had their own wing. So, in essence, it was Jaime's place. He opened the front door and found it oddly quiet. Usually when the twins hear the bell toll signaling someone came through the front gate, they rush to the door.
"Something's off." Jaime said.
"Maybe they're hiding." Brienne suggested.
"Gods we haven't hit that phase yet. They usually run to see me. I'm almost hurt."
Jaime took Brienne's hand and led her up the stairs. They rounded a corner and then he heard it - the laughter. "Ahhhh...I hear them. We follow the giggles!" He said happily. "What?" He was puzzled. "You hear that? Oh no..."
He went into his bedroom and into the bathroom to find his perfect children fully clothed, splashing in his shower with the water on full blast.
"What is going on in here?" Jaime playfully demanded.
"Come play with us daddy!" Joffrey said with excitement.
"I've got my clothes on. And my shoes!" He laughed.
"So do we!" They said in unison.
"Myrcella Jo, what is going?"
"Well...we wanted to play in the rain, but sun is out. So..."
"We had to play in the shower!" Joffrey finished.
Jaime looked at Brienne and stated, "I told you they were innovative."
They laughed together.
"You weren't kidding!" She smiled.
"Do you want to come in and play with us?" Myrcella asked Brienne.
"I would love to play with you! I don't think we can all fit in there though."
"Oh, you'd be surprised," Jaime said. "But! I have a better idea." He grabbed two fluffy towels and turned the water off.
"By the way, kids...where is your papa?" He asked.
"He's napping in his chair." Myrcella said.
"Did the two of you have a nap?" Jaime asked.
"We did but we woke up before him and we thought we should stay sleeping."
Jaime laughed and said, "Always, always, wake papa when you wake up. That's the rule from now own. Okay?"
Together, they answered, "Yes, daddy."
Once they were wrapped in their fluffy towels, Jaime scooped them both up and headed down the hall to the stairs. He stopped in the den and said, "Hey dad! I'm home. Can you turn on the sprinklers for me? Come on outside and meet Brienne after." Tywin woke up and rubbed his eyes.
"Sprinklers? The whole system?"
"The whole entire system!"
Jaime, Brienne and the twins walked out the back French doors and had a blast. Tywin met them outside with snacks and drinks and watched as the foursome held hands, ran and skipped through sprinklers together, all fully dressed. It was a wonderful afternoon full squeals, giggles, and endless hugs and kisses.
Brienne didn't want the afternoon to end. She knew she shouldn't stay too long, but Jaime asked her to have dinner with the family. Neither of them wanted to be too forward, but they just couldn't let each other go or say no. Jaime grabbed some joggers and a t-shirt from his room and sent Brienne to take a shower. He took the kids back up to his room and let them have a bath in the giant tub. Tywin placed a delivery order - they went simple for the kids this particular evening and had cheeseburgers, fries and shakes in the movie room. When the kids fell asleep, Jaime carried Joffrey to his room and Brienne carried Myrcella to hers.
Jaime felt like he could do this forever - as though Brienne was just meant to be in their lives. She was just so natural with the children, and they seemed to adore her right away. Everything was too good to be true and yet so comfortable that they both felt this was just meant to be.
