Nowhere Man
Now Schroeder’s in school. The lights are blinding and fail at trying to make the boring walls less dull. He hates this building for a multitude of reasons: the mean teachers, the itchy gym uniforms, and most of all; it ripped him from Lucy’s tender grasp.
He goes to his locker and grabs his things for his first period: math. “SCHROEDER!!!!!!” Peppermint patty barks from the other side of the hall. She tumbles towards him , with Marcie at her side.”Hello sir!” Marcie waves. Patty and Marcie started dating at the beginning of the year and are simply infatuated with one another. They have this sort of “unashamed” dynamic that Schroeder is incredibly jealous of. He likes them, but he mostly hangs around them to try to learn to be a bit more care-free.
“Hey- uhm- We’ve got to get to 1st period. I’d be happy to walk you two there if you’d like.” He says as he takes grabs all his Beethoven themed supplies. “We accept your offer, sir!” Marcie announces. The three walk to their first period. Marcie and Peppermint Patty hold hands while Schroeder simply daydreams. “You two are adorable.” Schroeder says monotonously. “Thanks gives Marcie a kiss on the cheek but I think I’m too tough to be adorable. Marcie on the other hand..” Patty flirts “Oh sir!” Marcie chirps. A slight blush appears on her face. Eventually , they get to Math class and are forced to part ways.
“I’ll miss you marcieeeeeee!!!” Peppermint wails. “I miss you sir!” Marcie says. There’s this look of pure love in their eyes. This look was something Schroeder was missing months now. The teacher drawls on and on. Schroeder plays with his hair and writes music scores in his notes. His mind is barely in focus. He’s not tired , nor is he fully awake. He’s high as a plane and so his perception of time is totally fucked. - Before he knows it, class is over. Usually the loud bell annoys him and makes him wish he was like the higher support-needing kids , who are allowed to wear audio gear to protect themselves. But today is different. “Today will be good” Schroeder thinks. He heads off to his next period: English; and stays asleep throughout the whole thing.
