The cat
It was a few days after Christmas and Ryan had returned to Ireland to see his mum so it was just Betsy, Lisa and Carla at the flat and they were visiting Roy and Nina to give them their gifts. After they went there Carla was going into the factory to catch up on an order and Lisa and Betsy were going into town to get a cat.
It was a Saturday morning so the lovers knew they could have a bit of a lay in before Lisa had to work in the afternoon so they made the most of it before they had to see Roy and Nina.

Twenty minutes later they were ready to leave the house so they walked to the cafe hand in hand smiling and laughing with each other .

They entered the cafe and sat down in a booth nearest to the entrance to Roy’s flat and himself and Nina came over with a coffee and a bacon sandwich for the pair of them before sitting opposite them. Roy made his way over and gave Carla a kiss on the cheek and wished her a merry Christmas albeit late.
Roy gave Carla and Lisa pamper sets and a ticket to the square chariot hotel for a massage and a spa session. They both thanked him and agreed to book a day to do this soon as the voucher ran out in a couple of weeks. Carla then gave Roy a jumper to match his collection and Nina a heavy metal band album. Nina gave Carla a pair of boots and Lisa a waistcoat to match her outfits she liked wearing to work. They had a lovely catch up and asked what each other did over the festivities. Carla was then feeling a little mischievous so asked Nina a question.

Betsy came into the cafe then and greeted Roy and Nina and asked her mum if she was ready to go and she nodded before she placed a chaste kiss on her girlfriends lips and bidded farewell to Roy and Nina. Carla also said goodbye to her father figure and Nina before she headed towards the factory promising to see the two swains later.
At the pet store they were unsure of what cat to get so they spent about an hour trying to choose before Lisa found one that she liked . She ushered her daughter over who smiled and nodded at the same one. He was an Asian tabby cat with green eyes and a distinctive mark on his forehead. They called Ivey the floor worker and asked for more information about the cat. The lad told them that he was the last one left in his letter and the only one that looked like that as his siblings were mostly black and white and also he had been neutered. Lisa asked Betsy to choose a name and she immediately chose Loki and Lisa nodded in agreement.
Betsy picked out some cat toys, a bed, a litter tray and some cat food whilst Lisa went to pay. When they arrived at the flat they placed the cat bed under the tv, the food bowl in the kitchen and the water bowl at the end of the living room. Betsy placed the toys in a box next to the cat bed and the food in the cupboard under the sink.
Lisa left for work and left Betsy at home with Loki for a few hours before both herself and Carla returned home. Carla got home before Lisa and noticed changed around the house but couldn’t see the reason as of yet.
“ Betsy come here please”
Betsy came out of her bedroom holding Loki and approached Carla.
“ what the bloody hell is that?”
“It’s a cat, mum and I picked him up earlier isn’t he cute?”
“ I suppose he is but why didn’t you tell me you were bringing a rat eating monster into the house?”
“ we wanted it to be a surprise but I can clearly tell it was the wrong thing to do”
“ I am clearly surprised “ Carla responded sarcastically and grumpily. “ get your mum home now we need to talk about this”
Betsy called her mum and warned her about the mood that Carla was in regards to the cat and asked her mum to try and persuade the older woman to let them keep him. Lisa arrived twenty minutes later and she saw her girlfriend on the sofa as far away from Loki as possible even though he wanted cuddles.
“ hey baby I hear you don’t like the cat?”
“ It is not that I don’t like it, I am just annoyed you didn’t speak to me first about having something that eats rats and birds and loses a lot of hair in the house”
“ I am sorry, I guess that we wanted to surprise you by thanking you for letting us stay here with you and giving us both the best Christmas we have had in years. Please don’t be upset .”
“ Well I appreciate the sentiment and everything but just so we are clear I am not cleaning out the litter tray, that is Betsy’s job seeing as it was probably her idea to get one and he is not allowed in the bedroom. If he wants to be on the sofa he has to he in his bed and when he eats I do not want to be around as his food smells.”
“ is that it, anything else you want to say?”
“ what’s his name and also I am sorry for freaking out just not used to having another creature to look after I can barely look after myself”
Betsy spoke “ his name is Loki and I promise to clean out his litter tray once a day and clean it properly once a week, I also promise to let you know when I am feeding him so you can leave the room. He is super friendly you should give him a fuss he loves it. Can he be in my bedroom?”
“ yes he can”
Carla didn’t really want the cat and wasn’t best pleased that her girlfriend and Betsy had gone behind her back but she wasn’t going to stay too mad at them as she was falling in love with Lisa. She stroked Loki and realised she actually quite liked him but she wasn’t going to go over this overnight.
When nighttime came Betsy picked up Loki in his bed and said goodnight to her mum and Carla before heading into her bedroom with him.
Carla and Lisa also went to bed. Lisa knew Carla wasn’t happy still but didn’t want to fight so she simply just said “ you will grow to love him, I am sorry if I upset you, would you like to be big spoon or little spoon?”
Carla placed a gentle kiss on Lisa’s forehead and responded “ I know it will just take time, you don’t need to apologise for doing something nice or should be me apologising to you for being a cow bag, I want to be big spoon”
They got in position and kissed each other before settling down for the night
