A Wedding to Remember pt.2

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden glow over the beautiful meadow where Meris and Zeno had just exchanged their vows. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blue winter roses, and laughter echoed as their friends and family celebrated the joyous occasion.

Zeno stood to the side, a proud smile on his face as he watched Meris radiate happiness. The tiefling’s mismatched eyes sparkled with delight as he danced with a tall elf woman, his adopted mother, Phyrra. Zeno couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen Meris so free and joyful.

“Congrats, Zen,” a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts. It was Tannatar Phivyre, a short elf man with black hair, who had fought alongside Zeno in many battles. “But I have to ask—why a tiefling? You’ve never shown interest in them before.”

Zeno shrugged, glancing back at Meris. “I don’t know. Meris is different than other tieflings I’ve met. He’s sweet, and he has this… energy about him that I’m drawn to.”

“Didn’t he, like, sell his soul or something?” Tann asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, but so what?” Zeno replied, crossing his arms. “He has a soul, and if he dies, it goes to the demon. That’s why I’m protecting him.”

“Ah, okay. He seems sweet, I guess.” Tann looked over at Meris, who was now twirling happily with Phyrra. “He’s pretty short.”

“So are you, Tann,” Zeno laughed, a teasing grin on his face.

“Touché,” Tann admitted, chuckling along. “But he seems… I don’t know… he’s kinda weird, don’t you think?”

“Yeah, but look at him,” Zeno said, his gaze softening as he watched Meris’s laughter fill the air. “He deserves to be happy.”

“Who's the lady?” Tann asked, nodding toward Phyrra.

“His adopted mother. He ran away from home when he was young, and her family took him in,” Zeno explained, his voice warm with affection.

“Oh… cool, I guess,” Tann replied, raising his glass of wine to his lips. “He sure looks happy.”

“I’d hope so. We just got married,” Zeno said, his smile widening as Meris skipped over to him, beaming.

“Zenobio Jah-zer Sucrafk,” Meris announced dramatically, arms outstretched.

“Meris Riel Sucrafk,” Zeno responded, his heart swelling with joy.

Meris hugged him tightly, and Zeno wrapped his arms around the smaller tiefling, feeling his warmth. “You never properly met my adopted mother. This is Phyrra Genxisys,” he said, gesturing to the tall elf woman beside him. “Phyrra, this is my husband Zenobio.”

“Lovely to meet you, Zenobio,” Phyrra said, her voice smooth and inviting as she extended a hand. “I’ve heard so much about you.”

“Likewise,” Zeno replied, shaking her hand firmly. “Thank you for raising such a wonderful person.”

Phyrra smiled, her eyes shimmering with pride. “He’s special, and I’m glad he found someone who appreciates him.”

Meris looked between them, a mixture of joy and gratitude on his face. “Now that we’re all introduced, let’s celebrate!” he exclaimed, pulling Zeno toward the dance floor.

As they danced together, Zeno couldn’t help but feel a sense of completeness wash over him. The music played softly, and Meris twirled, his laughter ringing like chimes in the breeze. Zeno held him close, feeling the warmth of their love enveloping them like a protective cocoon.

“Are you happy?” Zeno asked, his voice low as they swayed to the rhythm.

“More than I ever thought I could be,” Meris replied, looking up at him with those mesmerizing mismatched eyes. “I can’t believe we’re finally married.”

Zeno smiled, his heart swelling with affection. “We’re just getting started, Meris."
