Shattered Glass to the Bridge

The sounds of an electric drill whirled through space. An astronaut hovers outside The Daredevil fixing the outside by screwing in metal to patch a hole. In Walter’s helmet Out of My League by Fitz and the Tantrums is playing.
“40 days and 40 nights. I’ve waited for a boy like you to come and change my life.” He continued screwing in a new piece of metal to cover the hole from the asteroid belt. Minutes passed of him singing whatever song came on his playlist and screwing in bolt after bolt until he was finished. He touched his middle finger to his thumb together, stopping his music right before Jones’ voice could be heard in the helmet.
“I’m finished pull me in”
“Hmmm nahh”
“Jones Rodrick Smith, I swear to god if you don’t pull me in-”
“Okay! No need to use my full name” The line went dead and Walter’s music started playing again as he removed his fingers from each other. He felt a slow tug on his suit as he was being pulled back towards the ship entrance. The line decreased as he arrived in the back of the ship with the door slowly closing behind him. The red light at the other wall switched to green indicating it was okay to take off the helmet. He popped it off, setting it on the shelf to his right and unzipped his suit revealing his black undersuit. He walked to the door it opened letting him in the gray hallway. He made his way to the command center, the door opening for him like always. Jones sat in the pilot's chair and spun around as the door opened.
“All fixed.” Walter made his way to the co-pilot seat and buckled himself in.
“Thank god, lets fucking go.” Jones turned back to the console and stretched his fingers, a few cracking.
“Watch your language” He turned to Jones, who was now hitting buttons to get The Daredevil started.
“You aren't my fucking mom, because she’s dead.” He set his hand on the lever to his right ready to increase the speed.
“Wait what-” Just as Walter was about to finish Jones shoved the speed lever causing them to fly backwards. Slowly but surely their bodies adjusted to the sudden change in speed and Walter was able to remove his head from the back of his seat.
“Seriously dude.” He slowly moved a hand to Jones’ shoulder. “You good?” Jones suddenly pulled the lever towards him causing Walter’s head to slam forward, along with his hand slamming the console.
“Ow! What the heck man!” Jones shakily pointed ahead of him and out of the window. A big silver ship floated in front. A hole taking up at least ⅛ of the side of the seven story ship, pieces of the ship debris floated around the hole. Cracked windows scattered the ship's windows, being more common around the hole. A big dent sat in the middle front window, cracks running all over it.
“Oh my god…” Jones frantically looked at the console until he found the “Hold” button and slapped it. He quickly unbuckled himself, springing up from his chair and ran into the ship's hall. Walter struggled to unbuckle himself but when he did he took off after Jones who ran down the hallway.
“What the hell are you doing?” Jones picked up speed and walked into the ship's entrance.
“Going on that ship.” He pulled his suit off the wall making the hanger snap and clatter against the metal floor. “That hole is fresh, someone or something could still be alive.” He zipped his suit up as Walter calmly pulled him off the wall and put it on, following Jones to the helmets.
“You’re going to get yourself killed!” Jones reached for his helmet as Walter grabbed his wrist. “You aren't going alone!”
“For the smarter one you really are stupid aren’t you?”
“What do you mean?” Jones laughed before continuing.
“Well you’re coming with me aren’t you?”
“Why would you think that?”
“Cause you're also wearing your suit?” He pointed at Walter who had his orange suit on as well. Walter let go of Jones’ wrist.
“Touché” He grabbed his helmet, secured it to his head and connected the oxygen pipe to his helmet. Walter followed, putting his helmet on, securing the oxygen pipe to his helmet. Jones locked the entrance door to the hallway of the Daredevil and he attached his rope around his waist.
“Ready?” Walter looked up, making sure his rope was secure.
“Yup. Hit it.” Jones hit a button to his left, a red light started flashing as the back door opened slowly revealing the space beyond it. The further the door opened the more they were pulled towards space until they floated in the black ink. They moved towards the ship, avoiding contact with the debris around the hole. Walter floated to the sixth lowest floor right through the hole. The inside consisted of metal twist doors along the wall, long scratch marks trailed the dark hallway. He touched his middle finger and his thumb together as he looked around the hallway.
“Jones, where are you?” A static replay came back, scaring Walter and quickly removing his fingers from each other.
“I c-n’t h-r y-o-u.”
“What did you say?”
“H-h?”
“Crap uhhhh…” Walter looked left and right, he started walking to the left as he touched his fingers together. “Make your way to the command center.”
“C–and cen—?”
“Yes.” Walter keeps walking, a liquid from the pipes dropping to the floor with a ploop. Ke kept strolling, looking for a reminiscence of what could be a person, or creature. Around the middle of the hallway white thread ran around the walls.
“What the hell?” Walter ran to the part of the hallway, footsteps echoing behind him. The whole section of the hallway is covered in the white thread. He bent down to examine the thread. The white string pulled towards his gloves as he reached out to touch it, immediately wrapping around his forearm.
“Crap! Crap!” Walter pulled back trying to realize his arm from the thread. He kept tugging until finally his arm flew free causing him to fly back a few feet. He stood up and took a few steps back before analyzing the situation. He walked over to a piece of metal peeling off the wall and tore it off. He placed the metal over the thread causing tiny tings to echo through the hall. Walter put his foot on the metal board and wiggled it, checking if it was stable to walk across. A tiny puddle of red liquid slowly started forming in the middle of the board as Walter started walking across.
Thi-Thump
Walter’s eyes widened as blood dripped down his helmet. He slowly tilted his head up to the ceiling. A body lay stuck to the ceiling with its head completely gone. Blood dripped from the missing neck onto Walter. His hands flew to where his mouth would be if it weren't for his helmet. A roar echoed through the ship, shocking Walter to look toward the sound. He whipped his helmet from where his tears would be and ran across the metal board, towards the sound. The end of the hallway soon came with a turn to the right. He slowed down as he neared the corner to not run into the wall behind.
Like the hallway behind him this one also was covered in metal, the dim yellow lights on the ceiling flickering. To the left a metal ladder in the middle of that section of the hallway. He walked to the ladder and started climbing his way to the top floor.
“Sh–- WAL-R! GIANT MA—” Jones’ staticked voice screamed, it did seem though that the closer he got to the top the less staticky it sounded.
“Giant what?”
“Com–nd c–enter!” A roar sounded through the ship, it sounded closer the more he climbed. “HELP!” That one word caused him to climb faster, he scaled the ladder making it to the fifth floor. Everything was the same as the bottom level except for two arrows pointing in opposite directions. One arrow pointed to the left with a computer on it, the one pointing to the right was pointing to something that seemed to look like a gun.
“SHIT SHIT SHIT!” Jones screamed as little thudding tip taps followed behind him. As the corner came into view he placed his hand on the wall causing him to quickly swing around the corner without losing speed. A loud roar was heard before a thudding on metal, Jones slowed down slowly coming to a complete stop to catch his breath.
“ Ha… Ha… Bitch.” The red ten foot creature slowly stood up showing exactly what it was. A red praying mantis with an extra eye of a spider below the original two ones. Its antennae and extra set of wings resemble lady bugs minus the shell. Along with its spider-like extra eye it had the amount of legs of a spider while still containing its praying mantis-like legs, an extra pair of arms sat below the original helping it slowly regain stability on its eight legs.
It stood up and roared its original mantis shell flaring up to reveal its wings as it roared.
“Oh shit.” Jones quickly snapped around, started running full speed the other way. He got closer to the hall and a door slowly opened as sensing something coming. He swung his body to the side and slid through the slowly opening door into the command center. He bolted to the white threaded console slamming a button and the door slammed shut as two bars slowly slid across them locking him inside. A low roar could be heard on the other side of the door followed by thudding tippy taps which slowly faded. He looked around the command center. White thread strung over everything, bodies hung from the ceiling dyeing some of the thread on the ground red from the blood. A balcony sat on the wall overlooking everything. Tiny shards of glass scattered the threaded floor from the broken window behind. Loud clacking could be heard from behind the bolted door. Jones’ head snapped back towards the door staring at it.
“Oh my FUCKING GOD!!” He quickly looked around, an ax lay in an emergency fire cabinet on the other side of the room. “Bingo” He whispered. He started running to the ax only to be snapped back with a loud pop echoing in the room. His right arm dangled at his side, up to that elbow was engulfed in the white thread from the console.
“Ow… Fuck!” He held his right arm as loud banging sounded on the metal door. Jones carefully let go of his right arm and tapped his middle finger and thumb together. “Walter, buddy, could really use your help right now.” Two of the mantis’ hands sliced through the door causing Jones to jump back a bit.
“Ho– on —- ther–” A loud roar echoed as the mantis used its hand to peel the door right off the hinges. It used its two upper hooks to push off the door as Jones jumped on top of the console, trying to carefully pry his arm free from the thread with no attempt to even loosen it.
The mantis scurried quickly over to Jones raising its right hand and swung with a roar. Sharp pain stung Jones’ face as the glass from his helmet dug into his skin, hurting more on his nose bridge. He slowly opened his eyes widening in the process as he saw a slice of glass the size of a hand wedged into his nose. Blood dripped down it making tiny plopping noises on the thread covered console. It very well felt like hours as he watched the mantis wind up with his left hand for a hit that could knock his head clean off.
He snapped his eyes shut as small pictures of him and Atlas at their mothers death bed. Bruises all over his face as five year old Atlas hugged his arm with him standing in front of his dad. Cassandra hugging him on their graduation day, and Walter walking into the dorm room when they first met. He waited for that fatal blow but what only came was the sound of a laser and the screech of the Praying Lady.
“EAT LASERS BITCH!” Jones’ eyes shot open at the voice. He looked up to where he heard it come from and saw Walter standing on the balcony, and what seemed to be an AK-47 adapted to shoot lasers. He looked at the mantis, its top left arm shot off at the closet joint to where its hand was. The mantis squealed as Walter shot it a second time shooting off its upper right arm. The Praying Lady flipped over into what looked like a handstand and aimed its butt at Walter.
“DUCK!” Walter dropped to the floor as a big wad of thread came hurdiling towards the balcony and slammed into the wall behind him shaking the balcony. He aimed through the balcony railing hitting the mantis in the back with the gun.
“Thanks.” The mantis squealed as a crack in its exoskeleton appeared showing off its wings underneath. Walter kept shooting, aiming off limb from limb. With every limb Walter shot off the more it bled through where the limb was taken off. Soon it became more concerned with how much blood it was losing and stopped to figure out how to stop the purple liquid from coming out of its body.
“WALTER!” He turned his attention to Jones instead of the mantis.
“Holy crap what happened to you?”
“Long story short man, but maybe HELP ME BEFORE I DIE OF BLOOD LOOSE?!” Jones screamed at him.
“Give me a few to get down!” He looked around the balcony to find something to lower him down before looking at the bodies hung from the ceiling. “Screw this.” He hopped atop of the rail and crouched.
“Wait what the fuck are you doing?”
“I'm on my way down.” He leapt off the balcony and grabbed the body of someone on the ceiling. He scrambled to the top of the body and aimed the gun at the thread holding it to the ceiling. The body fell with Walter falling on top of it, causing him to land safely on the dead now molding body. He scrambled to his feet and ran over to Jones, whipping a knife out of his back pocket.
“I swear if you weren't already on the brink of death it would kill you right now. He sliced the white thread releasing Jones’ arm.
“Aww! I love you too buddy.” Jones stood up and hopped off the console. Sensing what was happening next the Praying Lady snapped around and roared. “Do you mind if I take that?”
“Nope, not at all!” Walter handed Jones the gun. “I've got a better one.” The Praying Lady leapt forward using its remaining hand to slice at Walter, slicing his shoulder and ripping his suit. Using his one arm Jones aimed the gun at the Praying Lady and fired, hitting it right in the neck. It squealed as a whirling sounded from Walter. He ran towards it with blue light following behind him. Walter slid underneath the mantis stabbing the blue lightsaber into its underside. It squealed as it fell over, turning into a pile of ash. He stood up, whipped his pants and turned off the lightsaber, storing it into his other back pocket.
Jones watched as Walter ran over to him, he couldn't tell if he was going into shock or what but his face felt hot.
“Are you okay man? I think you're going into shock.” He put a hand on Jones’ forehead making him flush up.
“I’m fine man, see?” He waved Walter off. He took a step and fell face to the floor passing out.
He slowly woke up, and sat up in his bed. The window showing his favorite poster since childhood up on the wall across his bed. He felt his nose and winced at the pain of the bandage touching the deep cut on his nose. He glanced down at his right arm all bandaged up and popped right back into place. He turned to his nightstand and looked at a framed picture of his mother.
“Hey mom… I think I’m bi.”
